I saw this on the news tonight. BOO RACISTS!!
what does nappy mean??
in australia, nappy is another word for diaper :/
It is a (rude) word for African hair.
It refers to the texture of the hair, and if you called someone nappy its like saying they have bad hygene or something.

I guess it's the season for closet misogynist/racist types to come out of their closets.

No one over 60 should be allowed to do sports commentary, save MAYBE John Madden (only because his games make my company rich) =P
--------
Case in point... Tommy Heinsohn doing commentary on a Houston Rockets/Boston Celtics game, after Yao Ming bent his finger backwards:
"That was his chopstick finger, too, he may not be able to eat anymore!"
Funny how that didn't seem to get any press.... *grumble*
Guess only hos get the limelight. [/sarcasm]

"In life, we DO a lot in order to accomplish mundane trivial things before we die, but it is in death and after death in memories that we will truly live, because it is in the level of care and detail that a person paints of us with stories from their memories and experiences with us that give us meaning."

Marek says, "A friend of mine got punched in the face by a dominatrix stripper about two weeks ago and I thought of you."
At the end of the Colbert Report, they showed a clip from a press conference with the team....a reporter (female) asked a girl on the team if the comments offended her more as a woman, or as a person of color![]()

Gee, the reporter said person of color. How can anyone be offended by that?

Ummm...I am going to rant here...because I think this is the biggest crock of crap ever...
I feel this is a travesty. The press, the media and everyone is making this a huge deal when it isn't.
I am all for political correctness and I am all for not being offensive. That is why I do not listen to Don Imus' radio show. Because he, like Howard Stern, and many talk radio hosts..so-called "Shock Jocks" have always stood for political INcorrectness and seeing who they could offend. It is what they do and it is what their listens expect, nay, even encourage. Further, he has said MUCH worse. As has Stern. As has Masters Parker and Stone, whom you know I worship. Why are we picking on this one comment?
I feel that we have been taking this too far for some time. The latest symptom before this was when Tim Hardaway made the "anti-homosexual" comments. While I do not condone hate nor Hardaway's actions, we made his comments about much more than his personal feelings or hatred and into an indictment of all he has done and stood for. So...he is an ignorant bigot who shouldn't work in the public eye anymore? Can't we leave it at that.
Now, we have Imus' comments, which were MUCH MUCH less than Hardaway's. They weren't coming from a place of hate. They did not indicate any sort of pattern. In fact, technically, his comments don't even carry any sort of racial bias. While "Nappy" is a term typically assigned to the hair of black people, it is an adjective meaning "kinky" or "closely twisted or curled" and it takes a step of logic to infer racial bias in the word or the statement.
This man is going to lose his job over this. And that is ridiculous. Imus' has called the comment "a poorly conceived, bad attempt at comedy." Indeed, I would say that describes his entire radio program. But it doesn't make him a hate monger. And I am sick and tired of us trying to find hate where there is none while we ignore the prevalent hate all around us.

"See, believe it or not (and I don't care whether you do), it's never been about the sex. I get sex at home, anytime, and we like it, and it's good for both of us. No, my stripclub experience has been about acceptance, and affirmation, and desirability...There have been some women who have a personality that just clicks with mine, and in the faux-sex atmosphere of the club, it's a mix that is completely seductive." - Jay Zeno
Don Imus has a long history of racist comments. This might be the first time on-air that Imus has uttered racial slurs. But, other radio personalities have spoken of years past of off-the-air racial slurs being used by Imus in the back office.
Black comedians have been making tasteless and unfunny jokes at white peoples expense for years. Personally, I love white people, and I find these "jokes" to be mean-spirited and outright racist, yet no one holds these "comedians" accountable for their actions.
The Imus radio show is a program of the white people, by the white people and for the white people. If you were black and offended by the Imus comment, then maybe you shouldn't have been listening to his show.
Watch Cordelia on The Bad Girls Club on Oxygen
Everybody have a drink and RELAX. What Imus said was stupid, disrespectful and not funny. He has stood up and apologized. He went on Sharpton's show ( Oh, the irony ! Sharpton of Tawana Brawley; "white interlopers" ; "diamond merchants" and a litany of other racial comments ) and will meet and personally apologize to the Rutgers team as he serves a two week suspension. He's going
to be watched like a hawk when he returns and if he transgresses again in similar fashion; he'll be fired.
I wasn't a regular listener before this incident but I've listened and watched him since on MSNBC and I've been impressed by his acknowledgment of his wrong; his contrition and his sincerity. Mistakes are usually our best teachers and incidents like this sometimes help people to turn themselves around and be better than they were before.
It's almost disgusting to listen to Jesse "Hymietown" Jackson and Al " Tawana"Sharpton sit in judgement on a guy like Imus who's raised over $100 million for various charities ; who's had hundreds of minority children out to his Imus Ranch;who supported Harold Ford when they ( Jackson and Sharpton ) have plenty of skeletons in their own closets. Both claim to be "Reverends". O.K. fine. Where is the spirit of forgiveness ? Where is the appreciation for the contrition ? Who the hell are they to sit and judge ?
That's the irony. And also the problem. The Rutgers team never heard Imus say it. I doubt any have ever listened to his show. College women are not his demographic. But that doesn't give Imus license to talk over the air as though he were in the Men's locker room at an all white country club. Which is exactly what he did.
What's the big deal? Is Nappy the new 'N' word?
How come there was no outrage when an entire lacross team was called rapists?
Geez. C'mon people.

See this is where I'm torn. I personally found this to be distasteful and not funny, but I don't know if it came from a place of hatred or humor.
Chris Rock had a whole routine calling white people "Cracker-assed Crackers" and look at the Wayans brothers on "In Living Color" but yet I found those to be funny.
So, I'll reserve judgement because I don't know if it was deep seated or not. If he intended it for humor and it went over like a fart in church, fine. If I found out that he really is a racist (proven, not just hearsay), then I'll join the ranks of those calling for him to be fired.
BTW, I'm a white person and can't stand ANY shock jocks. Their potty humor is not to my liking, so I don't listen. But that doesn't mean that, because it's not demographically geared towards me, I should sit back and tolerate racial slurs.

Sharpton and Jackson should go after rap.

I guess mostly because there is no right answer to that question. Either way she answers would be saying either her sex or her ethnicity were not equal parts of who she is. No matter what, someone would have taken issue with her answer. They were both offensive...there's really no point in saying one is worse then the other. Both unacceptable and completely tasteless.

Thank God Dylan and TSK, Shit!
I was worried. I mean, yeah I do admit I like rap music, but I still cringe at the thought of actually being called those names directly, even if not right in my face!
I knew my homegirls on SW weren't brainwashed by these jerk-off excuses for men in the entertainment, sports, hell EVERY business world! Its not okay to call women ho's!!!!!
(uhhh, in reference to the "jerk-off" comment......not you Mast).![]()
