Default i don't soap my face.

I have eczema and I have often had problems with my face getting dry patches when the weather/humidity changed or from experimenting with soaps.

I've found a huge breakthrough that's given me great skin. I just *don't wash my face*. I wear makeup about 4-5 days a week, and I'll remove all of it w/ an oil of olay cleansing cloth. When I'm in the shower or want to wash my face, I'll use hot water and scrub my face with my fingers. No soap... all of the dirt comes off when I use the cleansing pad (no water needed). My face is so delicate that I can feel the exfoliation power from my hands. And my skin looks better than ever.

I was hesitant about it for the first week I did it because I worried it would make my skin drier and patchier. But now that the oil distribution seems to have relaxed in my face because I've stopped soaping it all off, it's great skin.

Wondered if anyone else did this.

I don't have excema but you should try emu soap you can find it on ebay or just plain old google it's really good for excema and other skin conditions.
Heres some good old copy/paste info on emu soap my boyfriend tried it and he said it cleared his face up right away and hes tried plenty of acne products.

*Emu Oil soap is great to use in the shower or bath daily as it has the added

benefits of the Emu Oil. By using Emu Oil soap it can assist with things like - age

spots, bruises, burns, dry skin, eczema, skin rashes and varicose veins. This natural

Emu Oil soap will also leave your skin clean and fresh, and is good for sensitive skin.

*Lasts 2 - 3 times longer than most commercial soaps

*Unlike most soaps and lotions, the chemical composition of emu oil and its products is extremely similar to that of human skin. Thus, it absorbs much more quickly and deeply into the dermis to provide the most effective moisturizing available.

    *Good for Acne

Sorry I know that was totally off topic just thought i'd add an idea.

I had the same problem as you this past winter. It really sucked too because I've never experienced it on my face and neck before, just my hands. Anyhow I was doing something similar, cleansing off dirt and makeup with pond's cold cream then I would remove that oily residue with cetaphil. No soap because it was just too drying and aggravating.

Emu oil is wonderful (I have an 8 oz bottle of it) but if you're vegan or vegetarian you probably wouldn't want to try it since it comes from an animal.

^^ I've never seen that EMU stuff around here. But I've heard about it. Isn't it the number one skin care product in Australia?

My facial cleansing routine is pretty low maintenance also. I figure, it's a "less is more" thing, when it comes to messing with my skin. I remove makeup with an all natural cleanser and carefully wipe away eye makeup with a facial moisturizer or oil. Sometimes I use a witch hazel/aloe vera astringent, or a cream if I'm feeling dry. But days when I don't wear makeup, I don't do anything.
I'm confused, but the Chewbacca Truffle Shuffle cleared it up. - Emily

Don't the cleansing cloths have a soap in them? Or some kind of facial cleanser? So you really are washing your face, no?

Yeah, I know (I'm not sure what is in them exactly, but it doesn't leave any discernable residue). It's more that I never lather my face or use anything to remove daily dirt/residue, other than actually removing my foundation and power etc when I do have it on.

I've heard that Lush has some great face washes and lotions for those who suffer from eczema. Try searching their forum.

I have excema also and someone told me to use Lush's Dream Cream. I don't know if that is the best product they have though. I can't believe I haven't bought it yet....

Anyway I never use a soap bar on my face. I also buy the cleansing cloths and I use face masks when I need to clean my face.

my cousin has really really bad eczema all over his body and he used to put this medicated cream on like every few hours but it still didnt really do anything for him. He tried almost everything and then his doc suggested cutting out all dairy (like the dairy that comes from cows - cheese milk yogurt etc. not eggs or butter) and it cleared up within a couple of weeks, it was amazing. You might want to try this for a month and see if it does anything for you....

but as for washing your face, I dont really use soap either because it makes me break out. The only thing that doesnt bother my skin is this stuff called Lady Venus, but you have to find a sales lady for it I think. I get it from an aunt she's like a Mary kay kind of sales woman but for this Lady Venus stuff... my friends with all sorts of skin have tried it and been hooked, it doesnt seem to irritate anyones skin.

The last few days the skin on my lower cheeks/jawline is really dry, as well as around my browbone... I cannot figure out what suddenly caused this (as I consider my skin normal/oily). Even after using a good moisturizer, I've got this white flaky-looking skin under my eyebrows, actually kind of IN my eyebrows...it looks like I've got dandruff on my face. And the weirdest part is that today is the worst dryness yet. But I've also got NEW ZITS today! Like three of them! WTF?! I've started using a new soap since this weekend, but I never considered that the culprit. I don't know if I want to stop using soap on my face since I'm prone to breakouts on a monthly basis .. but I should probably switch it up, I suppose...

Here's a link to an eczema discussion on specktra. Seems to have some good suggestions.

I dont really do much in the face cleansing dept either...

I remove my makeup with baby wipes, scrub my face with my hands and warm water and thats about it. When im in the shower i'll kinda pat at my face with soapy hands from my body wash but thats it.

I've found since I started doing this I never(knock on wood) break out, my face doesnt get oily anymore and it doesnt get dry either. I actually have really healthy looking skin.

Sometimes simplicity is best. When we're bombarded by beauty products, it's hard to see that.

Ever since I gave up shampoo to do conditioner washes instead my curly hair looks amazing. And yes, I can still get it clean.

Conditioners have mild detergents that can actually clean the scalp, along with scrubbing well.

You have to use silicone free conditioners though, or you'd get buildup. There's a book entitled Curly Girl about this regime as well.

i love using oils to clean my face. DHC cleansing oil is really nice as a facial wash, and I use pure jojoba oil as a makeup remover/mosturizer. You have to order DHC online, but I've heard its really great for people with sensitive skin. (http://www.dhccare.com/DHC/) You can get jojoba oil at the health food store or wherever hippies sell stuff - I pay $12 a bottle and it lasts a million years.

i've heard testaments that girls using jojoba oil have less blackheads, better skin etc. I haven't been using it long enough to notice it as a miracle product but oh man it's great stuff. after using it to take off eye makeup a lot, i notice my lashes are really smooth and thick and healthy. i put some on at nighttime and it eventually just seeps into your skin (something about has a very similar chemical makeup to human sebum). you can also use it on your hair and nails, put it in your shampoos and in homemade masks and etc. Just dont use more than a few drops at a time, a little goes a long way.

My esthetician told me to not use soap products on the face, the chemicals in soap cause scaling & irritation.

The "secret" of French facial skincare is using cold cream instead of soap...So using natural oils is not so far from that.

If you feel using oil on the face causes any sort of buildup or clogging, bentonite & vinegar masques clean that kind of thing up...Bentonite is very cheap too, like under $15 for a whole canister of clay.

This may sound odd, but since this thread came up i don't feel like just blurting it out for no reason now.
I don't use soap, and have not in years. I shower quickly and use the shampoo to wash my face. I don't wear make-up unless i need to so it's no biggie.

Also conditioner is great for dry skin on the face. And just rinse it off.

I can't stand any hand or face soap.

I don't soap my anything. Dry skin - soap kills me.

I do use non-soap; I like Aveeno Moisturizing Bar. I use it on face, body etc.

i don't like soap. i exfoliate in the shower (burt's bees peach face scrub or something?) but that's it, and i don't shower every day.

i used to work for clinique, they have that 3 step skin care system, and it's alright, i just hate that damn soap. i like the clarifying lotion and moisturizer though, on days where i feel oily they clean me up but don't dry me out.

Sounds like you do almost exactly what I do. A while back I kept getting dry patches on my face. In fact, I posted about it on here and someone suggested I stop washing my face. So now I rarely wash my face in the shower unless I got lazy the night before and didn't clean it with an Oil of Olay face cloth. If I do wash it in the shower it's with Oil of Olay body wash. I haven't had a problem with the flaky face again.

My dermatologist (back in HS) told me not to use soap... just cold water and a super soft wash cloth if needed. It worked well for me. I used Cetaphil for years and still do from time to time if I can't afford my normal skin care routine. I'm absolutely HOOKED on Arbonne. My face has never looked or felt so good. I'm actually really looking forward to washing it here in a few minutes! ha. The products are totally vegan friendly too.

Oh.. and I religiously use JoJoBa Oil. Have for years. My skin is soft like modal cotton. I get comments on how soft I am ALL the time. I don't use a night cream... just the oil which I religiously apply to my entire body daily. If for some reason I forget to lotion up after my shower.... it's ok because my skin still looks and feels great.
