    Default Rolling ankles

I have sort of a strange issue with my ankles. I have what's commonly called "rolling ankles" What this actually means is that I have longer tendens in my legs and it causes my feet to slip and I can almost fall. This happens wether I'm barefoot or in heels. I can turn both feet sole to sole and keep my legs straight. Yeah, I know it sounds odd.

Does anyone else have this problem and is there a way to help correct this?

I have hear there are cetain stretches and what-not but can't seem to find anything online.

I know that if you only wear heels your tendons will shrink. This will happen if you dont stretch and it will happen if you only wear heels but I mean always wear heels, like the only shoes you own... lots of older women have a big problem with this because of the fashions of mid century 1900's and before, women were expected to wear heels. worth a try I guess... ask a doctor?

hmm.. I roll my ankles all the time but I don't think it's the same thing you're talking about. Usually I'm in heels and I'm not paying attention to where I'm walking (or perhaps I've been drinking?) and I'll step on the side of the shoe, like the edge of it.. and kinda step with my ankle, with my foot bending to the side. It's usually not enough to make me fall, and unfortunately I do it a lot. But I think it's probably destroying my ankles.

Yes, its just like that but in a more extreme as I can turn my foot to a 90 degree angle. Its rather annoying in 7 inch heels.

I have something similar. I talked to an orthopedic surgeon about it once...you can have surgery to tight everything up, but you will be in a cast for at least 6 weeks. I can't take that sort of time off. I'm finding that the ligaments in my ankles are tightening up a bit as I get older. I don't sprain my ankles nearly as often as I used to.

I'm rarely on here anymore, but lurk a little here and there. I was lurking now and came across your post and thought I'd add my two cents in.

I sprained my ankle when I was in middle school playing soccer. Ever since then, my right ankle would "roll" a lot. I'd be in a restaurant and step on the table leg getting into the booth, and it would roll. I'd be walking on solid ground and it would just roll. I work for an orthopedic surgeon during the day and I asked him about it. Bascially, my ligament was so overstretched that it wasn't doing it's job. Plus, I had some other bad stuff in there from the ankle sprain when I was younger.

I ended up having surgery to correct it in 2004 (it was really, really bad). The took a tendon from the back of my ankle/calf and put it on the outside of my ankle where they had removed the overstretched one. I was on crutches for a month and a half, then spent another month after that in a CAM walker (boot). I wasn't able to wear heels until 6 months after my surgery (and it took quite a while before heels felt comfortable again). But now my ankle is super-tight and I can't roll it hardly at all (even if I try). If you want anymore information on my ankle surgery if you are considering it, just PM me.
