Default custys talking about depressing shit...

lately i've had a real influx of customers who have been really mopey and just sat there during their whole dance talking about really depressing stuff. it makes me really uncomfortable, because i don't know what to say.

last night, i had a guy telling me about how he just got divorced, and then started telling me about how his mom died of breast cancer, and he had an auntie who was killed in a car accident... he just started listing off every deceased person he'd ever known, and the manner in which they had died, and he was getting rather upset.

wtf am i supposed to do/say in these situations?

I know what you mean, I've had this too. It's weird that they all seem to come together isn't it. I don't really know what I'm supposed to say. I feel bad for them so I listen , but yeah, it's kinda awkward

Yeah, you do tend to get em like that - i swear most of the time 70% of our job is counsellor, but you do get the REALLY depressing ones sometimes who obviously need a real counsellor (i know a few dancers who have counselling qualifications actually, maybe you should do a course and charge for your new skills!).

I just used to listen (damn - 'used to' that sounds odd, not used to this retirement thing at all! lol), nod a sympathetic pat of the arm and sometimes they'd cheer up enough to buy you a drink and ask you about yourself, which is your opportunity to turn the conversation more upbeat. But don't let them take up too much time, Just look really concerned and say "i'm really sorry but i have to go do some work, if the boss sees me ust talking to a customer for so log i'll get in trouble" - most times this leads to the guy paying you for your time, not a dance but just to drink and talk with them at the bar, which quite frankly i used to love. Then sometimes, at the end of the night, they'll ask for a dance too before they leave.

The important thing is not to let their demeanour affect yours for the night - you have to be sympathetic whilst with them but your usual bright and bubbly self with other customers.

That's a perfect way to get them back in VIP so they can just talk away while you sit there and listen to them and comfort them. I had a guy who talked about the divorce he was going through for an hour and a half ( I was getting $300 an hour) and since I was such a good listener, he would up tipping me like $200! That was one of the easiest VIP's I had in a long time, I think I did one dance for him! Try using that to your advantage so you can get paid by the hour!

Who knows what to say? That shit is sad.....All you can pretty much do is listen....Unless you do my infamous move "excuse me let me just change for my next set..." and never come back.

In hospital Emergency rooms, nurses call hypochondriacs/malingerers "gomers." You can start calling these guys Boner Gomers.

I also highly suspect some are embellishing or outright lying about these personal tragedies to get loving nurturing cooing from a hot sexy beautiful girl. Some guys also suffer from mental disorders which can cause pathological lying, excessive morbidity/fascination with death, and extreme mood swings. (Hey sounds like me, but I don't cry into some strange girl's bosom while paying too much for drinks. Hahahahahahahah.)

Like Naomi12 said, get up and leave, there's nothing you can do to help him.

I tend to listen and nod my head, then get away from them as fast as possible. I especially hate it when they come in talking about problems with their wives and how miserable they are because they got married, blah blah blah. Either get a divorce or don't spend every moment at the strip club bitching about it.

Yea any tips on the selling of VIP's in this situation? I can see that being pretty difficult. I guess you could just be balls out with it, but that's rude and yr dances might end.

listen, nod, and try to build him up. make him important and feel that the divorce is a good thing and that things are moving in the right direction for him-'see you have a hot lady wanting to dance for you'......
don't hate the player hate the game......

Hmmm... well, what's strange to me is that your customers are TALKING during your dances ANYWAY. as in, anything other than "ohhh, that is so hot," "damn girl you are FINE," "I love it when you ____, it turns me on," things of that nature. However, yesterday at work I had the same problem- an entire crowd from a funeral and one whose roommate had just OD'd. ... wtf??? i rarely ever see this kind of thing, because dayshift gets pretty consistent regulars, not just guys/crowds coming in suddenly because their life is down and they need a distraction. Bigger clubs/nightshift will have that more frequently, I'd imagine, because strip clubs pose nice distractions and show that there is some beauty left in the world- therefore guys that might not otherwise come in will be there.

In my situation- talking to them and trying to get away from morbid situations/turning it into a sell (I almost succeeded with one guy- I was about to re-try when I got 10 dances from a club reg), I have used, "well, you have my codolences and sympathies" (which I have proved by listening, nodding, offering kind words, etc...) "but I think what you need is a good distraction, and that's what I'm here for. Let me ease your mind- let's go have some fun!" or something of that nature.

If I was already dancing and someone was talking uNDER me about morbid shit??? jeez louise i have no idea.... "shhhh... this is your time to get away from all that... just let me take care of you right now." yeah. that works.
