Default God DAMN it! :( - Ovarian Cyst thread

    I am in a predicament and I don't know how I feel.

This last month I've been feeling really sick, I think I've even mentioned it. My back was hurting and my breasts were sore. Since you all know I just got on Implanon 6 months ago, I was REALLY worried that maybe it failed.. but also these were the same symptoms as ovarian cysts.

I took a test today and it was negative.

Part of me is really sad because pregnancy would've been easier to get rid of (yeah, that's mean, but true)... another part of me is happy I wasn't pregnant... and another part of me just wants to go back to the toilet and puke..

... and now I'm not sure if I should let the fuckers burst or if I should get them done surgically, which of course would put me out of work for a month (most important) and delay my breast implants... but bursts are potentially life-threatening and would leave me out of work for a week and unexpectedly.

    What to do...

Have you gone to the doctor to make sure you have ovarian cysts? If not, do that first, as it may be something you hadn't thought of previously. If you do have them, I think it would be best to have them removed, safe is better than sorry.

I had a cyst at this time last year. It was quite large and they said if it got any bigger, they would want top operate immediately. I waited it out and it shrunk within the next month, and then finally disentegrated. You never know, but true, it is better to be safe than sorry. At least see a doc, if you can.

A few weeks ago I went and she said I might have ovarian cysts coming back but not to worry since my Implanon would probably get rid of it.

    Guess not.

    I go back tomorrow.

I had an ovarian cyst when I was 15. While they can dissolve on their own it is not a good idea to leave them. They can damage fertility. It took a while to work out what mine was, I was a virgin and wasn't on the pill or anything. I was getting these horrible pains in my lower abdomen - so bad that i collapsed in the street. I don't remember feeling sick though, just the pain. But I had an x-ray and then an ultrasound and then a laproscopy whih revealed that the cyst had actually dissolved on its own so i didnt need surgery which was great.

I'm not too worried about being sterile.. so if that was the only side-effect I wouldn't be so worried. Too bad another side-effect is death.

Well, if you go to a doctor they can do a sonogram (?) and see if they are cysts, how big they are, etc.

Susan Weed says that chickweed tincture can help to dissolve cysts (but as far as I know there's no scientific evidence of it).

I've never heard of death from an ovarian cyst........ Pain, yes, lots, I have 2 small ones right now, they go away on their own. Just take some aleve, or go to a good doc who will prescribe you some generalized pain meds for that area.

i'd just be concerned about it bursting or twisting... blechh.

an ultrasound to at least work out exactly how many, how big etc, then you will at least know whether you want to grin and bear it.

they don't usually do anything about them unless they're at risk of doing one of the above things.

my pet pregnancy cyst in my right ovary got huge but it seems to be dissolving now...

sore bewbs and implanon = par for the course. as i recall mine grew too. i think you've done well to have it (the stick) 6 months.

why is it that doctors base their decisions on treatments by whether they cause infertility or not. who cares if you can have kids if you have a dang illness. do children really infest peoples brains like that? i mean if you tell the doctor you already have one and that you dont want any more kids they ALWAYS SAY "oh you will change your mind one day" NO I WONT!!!! I have way too many health problems to pass on they just don't get it... btw some comments were sarcastic dont take them too hard... i just found out that the pain i've been having for five days is my ovaries. i have to get a ultrasound so I feel ya on the cysts because thats what they might be. ovarian cancer is rare if you are under 35, but the symptoms of cysts and ovarain cancer are very similiar im demanding a blood test. who cares if im only 21 im not taking stupid chances!!! is what i want to tell them but i guess waving cash in front of their faces will go alot smoother haha. the dr. said if its the cyst they will put me on some meds, so what exactly do the meds do? thanks. and I hope your cysts dissolve & my too i hope they dissolve along with the non tipping customers and they have a big happy cyst family!!

You're actually correct. Doctors make decisions based on medical malpractice liablity issues and statistical assumptions (oh, and don't forget what kind of insurance you have, if at all...)

In my case, I was put on a double dose of high-estrogen Birth Control Pills (Empresse) which caused me months of agony. Then a cyst burst and I got to lay around in pain for a month. Since then things have been a little better, like only occasional agony, not all the time.
(& That was the best I could get out of all the male gynos I visited. You BET I'm only seeing female gynos from now on....)

PS Chickweed does seem to work on cysts, maybe it's a placebo effect but hell, I won't knock it.

Yay! Can you describe it? How long have you been taking what dosage and when did you notice a difference and how would you describe the difference and have you had a sonogram that shows a difference?

Sorry to treat you like a guinea pig, but there's so little actual info out there about using chickweed with cysts, except a few people saying "it works for my clients" or "I have anecdotal evidence..."

I've been drinking chickweed tea (brewed from dried herb) during mid-menstrual cycle, when a number of bizarre things happen due to the "womb of doom" and the cystic ovaries (pain, IBS symptoms, bloating). One cup a night until symptoms subside.

It's coming on a year since the last sonogram, so I'll get another and update...LUCKY for me, my county just acquired a female gyno that will be working out of the hospital down the street, so I don't have to go back to that jerk that put me on Empresse & let me suffer.
Due to the inherent unpredictable nature of cysts (they can come and go monthly, dissolve on their own or burst) I don't think anyone can credit homeopathy for treating them beyond subsiding pain and a gradual drop in symptoms.

I feel yah. I got my first cyst when I was 17 and it eventually dissolved on its own. I was put on the pill to regulate my cycle and prevent another ovarian cyst. I went in the 25th of last month for a routine checkup, and my doctor said he felt what was probably an ovarian cyst. I'm still taking my pills and go back in six weeks to see if it dissolved. If not I'll need surgery. The weird thing is my first cyst was the most painful thing I have ever felt, but I haven't felt anything from this one.

I hope it dissolves on its own and you don't need surgery LM
