    Default Good car insurance?

Car insurance is pricey. I'm 22 and shelling out $64 a month after 1 1/2 years of being with them. I'm with State Farm. A friend told me to switch to AAA. Geico shows some lowered quotes, but my aunt is having so much trouble with them that I'm not gonna touch them with a 10 foot pole.

    Any suggestions?

Keep in mind that sometimes you will pay more if you're with a good car insurance company, so you really have to weigh the pros and cons, not just the price. What kind of car are you driving, and is your driving record clean? I ask because those are big factors in pricing. I am with Esurance and pay about $70/month for a 93 Subaru, but I believe it would be lower if my husband and I had totally clean records, which we don't. Esurance seems to be the lowest usually.

Since I used to work in a Collision Center, I got to see how easy or hard a certain company was to deal with when they needed to fix your car, etc. and if they used new parts or used parts to fix the repairs. From my experience, some great companies are:

    Allstate
    Farmer's Insurance
    State Farm
    Geico
    American Family

    Good luck.

Get multiple quotes. Make sure you are with their preferred company.

... 22? 64??? and you're complaining??? jesus christ..... i WISH I paid that!!!! I pay more that that for the fucking motorcycle!!!!!! and i have a 100% clean record! I'm 22 as well. then again, long beach is notorious for having extraordinarily high insurance rates- and i have shopped around EVERYwhere. of course- i insist on having full coverage... which doesn't help matters.... but i am a paranoid dork, and i do NOT want my bike stolen or car broken into. blargh.

but for the record- triple a is good if you've been with them for a LONG TIMe only... farmers is very good, geico is terrific and i have them for both car & bike, i would nOT go with mercury, progressive has higher rates than anyone else i know.

That's how it is with most places period.

I drive a 96 Ford Victoria, with a squeaky clean record. I also drive minimally and take public when I can, as gas prices are unholy. I told all this to my agent.

I'm with State Farm because my ex's family had been with the agent forever. I don't trust just any online place. I want an agent who I can talk to who knows me.

i WISH i could take public... i went to school in chi-town, and i miss the L like i miss my family. the bike (when i can get a battery jump... harumph...) will help a bit in gas costs (3.25 is the LEAST expensive around for regular???), but like you say, i don't trust an online place either- after my ex crashed the bike drunk (technically totalled it) I found out just how important it was to have a good agent- thanks to the agent, MY record is still squeaky clean- the rate didn't go up at all and he got 6 mnths alchohol stuff from the courts + everything i kept from the dui i requested. hah. don't f*ck w/ your gf's new bike on her birthday. ANYway.... yeah, insurance is sooooooo many factors, hell, i even read an article about insurance factoring in HOROscopes??? i mean, wf????

$64 is really cheap. I'm 22 and pay $94 for a 98 VW Jetta. Clean record and every discount possible. I have really great coverage and low deductibles, which could be changed to save a few bucks. State Farm has been good to me.

I vote for Progressive simply because the customer service I've received has been outstanding. I had TONS of trouble with Geico just doing things that should have been really basic (like starting a new policy!). However, I pay more than you on my old-ass beaten-to-shit Buick, and I have a clean record. But then, I haven't been driving for very long, and I live in FL. I think rates here are higher than in a lot of places (not NY and CA, obviously)... I think because we're a no-fault state?

But that's all extraneous info. Progressive is staffed by nice people and I do not dread dealing with them. That says a lot.

I like Allstate. I got a rate from State Farm who I'd always been with, when I bought my truck a few years ago. They quoted me 70 dollars more a month than Allstate. I pay ALOT more than you, but I have 2 cars, and one is new. Getting a quote won't hurt.

I'll look into AAA for the additional benefits, but State Farm has been good to everybody I know. It's also good for multiple policies, which will be good if I get homeower's or renter's insurance.

Wow, I guess I do have it cheap. I do own my car, and it's a very safe car. In fact, the only reason I'm keeping the gas guzzler is because I have no medical insurance, and I know that I won't get too fucked up if I get in an accident in my big cushy yacht.

We use Safe Auto, we both have clean driving records and are in our 30's... we have just liability on our Ford Explorer and full coverage on our Dodge Ram that were still paying off and we pay $199.50 a month.

Ha as soon as I read the $64/mo car insurance I thought she must not live in CA. I would love to have my insurance be that cheap!!!!!!!!

For a suggestion though I used to have AAA and now I have Mercury. I got multi quotes from AIS. They were the cheapest for me with a point on my record and a brand new car. Mine is around $1200 per year. It used to cost me $2200 per year.

Your rate is very low. If you want to get it lower, try raising the deductibles.

I did raise the deductable a level, and lowered it to $64/month.

I switched from All State to Geico and saved about $200/year. No complaints so far. I've only had to make one claim with All State and they did a good job, so no complaints there. It's just Geico had much better pricing.

If you have home owners or renters insurance, you might be able to get a bigger discount if you consolidate to one insurance agency.

$64/month is cheap. Mine is like $150/month and I have a clean record and I'm 34. I'm with State Farm. I have checked around over the years but they came out cheapest for me. I've been with them since I was 15. They handled the claim I had to make once really efficiently too.

Geico is crappy, stay away if you don't want them to cheap out on you in case something happens.

I have State Farm for my other car, and I love them. My car is heavily modified and they cover all mods free of charge if I provide receipts, so that's why I like them so much. Plus I actually like the idea of having an agent that I know versus a random person on the phone.

Like what others have said, good insurance isn't always cheap, and cheap insurance isn't always good.

as I stated in another thread, I have stuck with State Farm over the years ... and am finally reaping major savings due to their 10 year accident free discount !

Do you rent? If you do, and get renters insurance, that can usually make your whole policy cheaper, and you get the renster insurance to! Its a very good idea to have renters insurance to begin with, but if it can even make the policy cheaper than just having car insurance, good deal! You end up getting a multipolicy discount, which is what makes it cheaper.
I pay $84 a month for full coverage, I just turned 26, and i drive a convertible sports car. Accident/ticket free. And my renters insurance completly covers everything in my house, and would also give me money to move, or get a hotel in the event of a loss.

ETA: I'm with State Farm. They are very good. The agent even sends hand written holiday cards for birthdays, christmas, even easter! I was impressed with that, it's a nice touch.
