    Default Audition clothing advice

Well, last I went to the gym, I weighed in and had lost the 10 lbs that I told myself I would lose before I auditioned. (I'm still a bit unhappy with the amount of junk in the trunk. I was thinking I needed to lose about 10 lbs to be acceptable and 20 to be ideal, but I think it might be more in the 35 range to be ideal. But I said 10 lbs before dancing, so 10 lbs it is!)

I know I need to get a proper thong. I'm wondering how much else I absolutely need to buy. From what I've seen, it seems that most marketed dancewear is overpriced, poor quality sythetics that look slightly better than cheap halloween costumes.

I'm a goth chick and I look like a goth chick, so I'm just going to go as out with that as I can, as I'll not really stop looking like a goth chick if I try (plus in my experience scads of normal-type dudes are way into the goth chick look). I plan on going with a little black dress type outfit (or little black skirt and top as would probably be better). Would there be a problem just wearing a black miniskirt or wrap skirt and black lace top that I already have? Is there something about dancewear that makes it necessary or far superior such that one shouldn't wear normal clothes in the same way one shouldn't wear normal thong panties to dance?

Also, I have some fairly new red scar tissue on my leg which I think is sexy but probably not so much to the average joe. I was going to wear fishnets and a garter belt, which I think is super-sexy and which will mask the scars. I just don't want to look like I'm trying to be too covered up after I get naked, because that wouldn't come off during the dancing.

I already have two pairs of stripper shoes, as I go clubbing in them, so I'm not worried about the most expensive portion of the outfit. One pair is black patent strappy sandal spike-heel platforms. I like them, and it seems most people on here prefer the spike heals. However, they're slightly less comfortable than they could be, as I have really really wide feet. My other pair are chunky-healed black platform boots. They fit me perfectly, and I wear them all the time. I'm more comfortable dancing in them, and they're more my style. So I'm probably going to go with the boots to audition. If everything works out, I'll custom-order some wide-sized spike healed types.

So, any outfitty advice would be appreciated.

I'm in the midst of an atrocious stomach flu at the moment, but am planning on doing my shopping and then auditioning when I'm over it, so a week or two. I feel pretty excited. I thought it would be longer when I decided to do this, as it usually takes me a long long time to gain or lose any amount of weight. (Two months for 10 lbs might be about normal, but it's really fast for me.)

Just my 2 cents but try to keep it as simple and non threatening as possible when you apply. Its totally cool to be unique but try to soften up when you apply. After you get your foot in the door then you can amp your look up. I have a lot of large tattoos so when i apply i try to look as sweet and feminine as possible...after i get the job then i wear whatever i want.

P.S. If your boots are those industrial goth Demonia type ones I would personally go with the spike heels..more feminine for the managers. I'm not knocking your style by any stretch of the imagination but it's unspoken dancing law "Thou shalt not threaten" especially the stupid managers. But that said once you get the job you can wear whatever you want

Congrats on the weight loss btw!!

Hot Topic has some awesome outfits, such as belt skirts and other "cute" accessories, and they are often very well priced. Sometimes you have to dig to find something, or ask for help, but usually they've got something great.

Thanks for the advice. I'm sort of worried if I go in with pale skin and a weird hairstyle and try to wear something too mainstream that I'll just look awkward. And I'm not up for going tan and blonde. I'm probably just thinking too black-and-white; I need to remember there's something in between fluffy pink and vampire princess. :-D

Do you think the fishnets and garter are too much? I'm a little worried about my leg scars. I know they make body makeup for covering up things like that, but I thought stockings would just be easier.

no the fishnets and garter are fine..tons of girls wear stockings. Just try to avoid making little muffin tops with thigh highs(yeah i totally cant wear them without getting 4 thighs instead of two)

Oh yeah, the thigh squish is a problem with wearing thigh highs instead of stockings. As long as one gets stockings that don't make an attempt to stay up by themselves and are inteded for use with a garter belt, one won't get four thighs. I love love love the topless fishnets from http://www.sock-dreams.com . They don't squish, are very comfortable, and come in lots of colors. I also love lace-top stockings, but the only place I know of that sells lace-top real stockings is Victoria's Secret. And while they're gorgeous, they're also $20 for a pair and delicate. But so sexy.

^^ shes right, the more you overthink the longer you put it off. whats the worst that can happen, you get turned down but know what to do differant next time. i check out Ross once a week for good cheap additions to my dancer clothes, has good clearance items, alot for under $20. Hot Topic was always to pricey for me, and with a creative mind im sure you can piece together the look that makes you comfortable. and thats what really sells, CONFIDENCE

[email protected] tops I totally have that. Even though I'm petite, I can never find thigh highs that compliment my legs, they always seem to be not quite right.

I have seem some really hot vampy pink closes. I google 'til I drop some nights. It can be the best way to find more interesting outfits

I'm calling clubs this weekend to see about auditioning. Right after I got over the stomach flu I got a UTI that became a kidney infection and was flat on my face again. This is really obnoxious as I'm usually healthy as a horse, and being seriously sick for 3 weeks was grrrrr. But hooray for antibiotics!

How about you? Have you auditioned, and if so how did it go?

ouch! I'm sorry you were so Ill! I'm actually out of state at the moment, my Grandfather fell ill; so I'm taking care of him. I'll be home by next week, and I'm going to just bite the bullet and do it then.

I already auditioned at one club (oasis), and I worked for a very short time, but I just get a bad feeling from the place, so I'm looking to audition at another when I return home.

I think this is cute, with a bad girl edge, but not too hard core. You may be goth outside the club and it's okay to be a bit goth in the club, but you don't want to have such a dramatic look that you are scaring off the customers!

I called several clubs to see about setting up auditions, and they all said to just come to the club sometime. Would most clubs expect that I come ready to audition, or would I be more likely to just meet someone then to set up an audition? Or does it just vary from club to club? I guess it wouldn't kill me to just haul around costume and shoes.

on the subject of thigh-highs, I dont know if it would work but i wonder if the one that have the garder on top like would hide the indention some of them make. Since it kind of puffs out right there maybe itd make a relativly smallindention less noticable? i dunno, just an observation Congradulations on the weightloss grasshopper, I hope your feeling better too.

Grah, I'm so frustrated. I just got back from the FOURTH time I've gone down to the club at which I'm trying to audition. This time it was "I've auditioned four people today and don't want to see anyone else." But when I've called in to see if I could audition I've always been told just come on down. While I've been very greatful to SW for reading other people's stories and realizing I shouldn't necessarily be put off by getting the runaround, it's really annoying. If they could just tell me "show up Sunday at 5:30" or whatever I'd be happy to be there, but it's just "come down and see." I have so far only gone to one club. From what I'm reading on here and other places, it's about the second most divey place in Denver (Saturday Night Live). I'm not about to touch the one that's considered the worst with a 10 foot pole (my boyfriend works across the street from it, so I'm intimately aware of the fact that the neighborhood is overrun with crackwhores). I am still a little chunky, but not much more than some of the girls at SNL when I went to check it out, so I think it's a waste of my time to try the more upscale places. Frustration frustration. But at least the club is like 2 blocks from my house, and I have a car, so it's not like I'm wasting much of my time. :-6 OK, rant done now. Off to the gym with me.
