    Default Need advice about Herpes

Ok I think I have herpes. I just got a test today and still waiting for the result. I had blister in my vagina and I don't know if going to work tomorrow will be ok. I work in a topless club. I just don't know if it's safe to work if you have an outbreak. I've read some threads about it. But I can't concentrate right now because I can't stil believe about it (my doctor said she's sure that I have it). I am married for almost 2 years and never have any partner aside from my husband...

I guess what I really need to know is if it's ok to work. I will start my medication tomorrow.

    Thanks in advance

Not to contradict an MD, but I'm wondrin how she's sure you have it from 'a' blister, b/c genital herpes typically comes in clusters. Also sounds kinda weird to me that's she's giving you meds before your results are in... Anyhoo to me 'a' blister on your vag sounds more like a cold sore, which is herpes technically (type 1 I think?) so maybe that's what she meant? But in either case, both kinds of herpes are particularly contagious during an outbreak, and I'm assuming it's also painful so if it were me I'd stay home a while.

The sore could be from yeast, molluscum, or another infection. Wait until the results are in.

If you do have genital herpes, I would not work during an outbreak. Ouch.

Hopefully your results will come back negative...but in the meantime..double up your G-string and make sure you wash your hands every time you potty! As long as your not hurting don't see why you couldn't work.

A herpes "outbreak" can be just one or even two bumps/blisters. You would have to have skin to skin contact to transmit the herpes, as long as you aren't rubbing your herpe and then rubbing someone else. Yeah, not likely. Since you only work topless, I don't see the prob, as we can assume you aren't exchanging fluids at work. But do keep it quiet at work as they will most likely get overly paranoid. Its not the end of the world. Also did you or your hubby have oral herpes? (any cold sores ever) If so you could have transmitted the virus to your genitals via infected mouth to vagina.

I had a sore one time that hurt like HELL...a doctor at a clinic said he was sure it was herpes, but the test came back negative and it turned out to be a yeast infections. From what I understand, the two can be confused. Keep us updated!

Is your doctor possibly biased by the fact that you're a stripper? With your sexual history and circumstances you seem like a HIGHLY unlikely candidate for herpes. Wait for your results. And as long as you are comfortable and not in pain, you should feel free to go to work. Of course, like everyone said, don't tell ANYONE. The dreaded HERPES is, like, death to a stripper's reputation for some reason.

Well I have yeast infection too, that was she told me on the same date that I had the herpes culture test.

Before the blister came out, I had this weird pain on left underam and had a flu because of it...so I think it's all related to herpes..but of course I hope it's not

I'll keep you posted. She told me she'll call as soon as she get the result

See, I still just find it odd she's giving you specific meds before your results are in. And lemme ask you this- is she giving you a blood test, or did she swab from the blister? Anyway though, flu-like symptoms before an outbreak does sound like herpes, but on the other hand maybe that was related to the YI, and also non-painful blisters does not sound like herpes.

It seems like everyone has this virus. Stay positive and you will not have any outbreaks. Get "valtrex"...

I was given the meds too before my test results came in. Doc told me that's what I had... 3 igg, and 1 western blot later, all negative results. I will be getting one more this month. I'm so tired of this. I hope yourdiagnosis was just a big mistake like mine is showing to be.

Hmmm. Well again I'm no doc, but I did have a scare with this once and read up on it a lot- one thing I read was that a blood test is only definitive on *exposure*, not necessarily infection. Kinda like how we have various antibodies from vaccine exposure, though obviously (and by design) we don't contract whatever diseases they're for; e.g I have polio antibodies, but not polio itself. Whether or not that's true, a blister swab is agreed all-around to be absolutely definite, so I hope they gave you the latter rather than the former.

It's very very common for a doctor to prescribe something like Valtrex when Herpes is suspected, even if they aren't sure yet.

You have polio antibodies because the innoculation includes injecting you with Polio.

If a herpes blood test comes back positive it's because you at some point in time had an active infection.

I can't believe they've had you go through all of this, herpes while being a nuicance isn't a HUGE deal. It's a huge deal because people make it one. I think the social pain and isolation is probably worse than the actual pain of having sores down there. Sure, you should know because you don't want to risk passing it on to others, but 1/4 people have it! Some 25% of the population has HSV-2 (usually genital herpes, though can appear on the facial area), even more have HSV-1 which you can get on your genitals (but usually on the face). Some 50% of the population have some form of HSV virus, either 1 or 2. As I read someone said this "Genital herpes should have no more stigma than a common cold sore - it's just a cold sore in a bad place".

It's like chickenpox. A lot of people get chickenpox (same family of viruses too), no one thinks twice but the minute it has to do with something sexual it's this HORRIBLE stigma attached to it.

If you've tested negative 3 times, I doubt you have it unless you aren't producing antibodies for the virus yet.
