When I'm moved into my new house...I wanna get a hedgehog. I know the factual stuff about them, but has anyone ever had one? Look how cute they are!

They are really cute, especially their little snout/nose. I got the holy hot shit bit out of my index finger by one once, though...seriously a much worse nip than you would think such a little critter could do. Mucho bleeding was involved. I think you need special permits in some states to keep them, I'm not sure. One of my friends had one (the one that attacked me), and she said after a month or it was a really boring pet.
waffles are just pancakes with little squares on them.

they are cute but the biting thing would worry me.
Love it!

I had one for years and years... he was awesome. He never bit me... maybe I got a sweet one but my teacher had them too (that's where I got him from) and I never heard of any of them biting, either. It was so cute, my mama would feed him grapes as a treat and whenever she'd put them in front of his cage, he'd run around in circles and do "the Grape Dance." Omg I miss him, I wanna get another one! He was so great... you should get one![]()

I think that Paintbaby does...
Awww, my god those pics are cute, lol!!!
My uncle found one once one night on his way home. He bought it home to show me and my cousin as we were small kids at the time. It squeeled all night like a little pig and my uncle couldnt sleep because of it so he let it go again in the garden. Im sure it was much better off there but i was really dissapointed because id never seen one IRL before. Are they nativeto the US?
Aw, I want one too! Sonic the hedgehog was one of my favorite games when I was younger.![]()
They make crazy noises when they're angry! Almost sounds like a computer starting up, lol. I used to work with them in the pet store. They like worms and fruit for snacks.
Sex for money? Never! For jewels, and furs, and revenge, like a lady! But not for money!
How cute! Don't they have little spines! Yea, paint it blue, Sonic the Hedgehog ftw!![]()
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
I love looking at them on cuteoverload.com if you can get one I would suggest going through an organization because they could probably help you get all the correct papers and such if needed. Let us know if you get one! They are so rare I have no idea how much one would even cost. I love photos of them like swimming around in bathtubs...so cute.

here's a general care link/page on about.com: http://exoticpets.about.com/od/hedgehogs/Hedgehogs.htm
very cute pets. they're mainly insectivores though. so you'd better be ok with bugs.![]()
They are adorable.
Just a few points…
Can be lots of fun but can be grumpy and totally boring. They need to handled often to keep them from rolling up in a ball when you want to hold them.
Must have a sold running wheel in its cage. They run a lot. The solid kind of wheel, not the kind that looks like a ladder in a circle, those break legs easily.
Do not keep in your bedroom, they are nocturnal and when the lights go off they will start to snuffle around and keep you awake.
They are insectivores so all mine get a variety of meal worms and cockroaches but there is a great hedgehog chow available in pet shops, I can get you a link to an online shop if you need.

I just want to say it again... They are just too cute! Pooka, if you get one, you have to let me play with it!![]()
Little, unusual pets are so awesome! I want a sugar glider... but my ferret (and future kitty) are all I can handle.![]()

haha they ARE cute... And I'm late on the jokes, but as soon as I saw the title I knew I was writing: the only hedgehog I ever had was blue and his name was SONIC...lol

My friend had one, and it was a mean little bugger, and bit her once. After a month she gave it away. It was cute to look at, but got boring real fast.

I'm okay with bugs, just not cockroaches. I can do worms/other bugs. They are just so heart-meltingly a-fucking-dorable.
My childhood friend used to have one but it was bitey and always tried to hide under stuff. When i was little i tried pulling him out from under the bed but he bite me so that put an end to super terrific happy hedgehog fun time.
That said they are so freakin cute. I never managed to pet the little guy..are they hard and spikey or is there fur soft?

I've never petted one, but I'm under the impression that their spikey fur has more of a texture of a bristley brush than needle-y, unless they are really upset or something.
I have one. His name is Spike.
They are really nervous, sensitive creatures---he puffs up and rolls up into a ball when I pick him up, startles easily, and really does not like to be handled. He prefers to be taken out of his cage to run around on the floor, but then likes to find corners to hide in. His quills are very sharp, and I have to wear leather gloves to handle him. He does like human interaction--he likes to be spoken to, and is starting to let me tap him on the nose. But they aren't cuddly creatures at all.
Their care is pretty basic, though. Cage with shavings, water bottle--mine gets dry cat food. If I have chicken, I give him some cooked chicken---he really likes poultry. He doesn't like his veggies, I noticed, but he does like grapes. I also have a little wooden house in his cage for him to sleep in----they like to feel secure and enclosed. I used to have a wheel for him, but he grew too big for it. In the summer, I take him outside and let him dig in the garden.
They are considered to be exotic, and I don't think they would make a good pet for a child. They are very nervous to loud noises, don't enjoy being handled, and aren't all that exciting. But they are damned cute, and hilarious to watch running around on the floor--they can run damned fast. He also likes to steal cat toys--he has a little soft one shaped like a mouse that he carries around like a teddy bear and sleeps with. Pics:

My ex's mom had one that died shortly before I met her. The mom (Judy) had been so attached to the hedgehog (Reggie) that she was still mourning the loss when I came into the picture. It's funny to hear you ladies say that they tend to be skittish, because according to Judy, Reggie was a an affectionate little guy! God knows she talked about him all the time. She was really sad about the whole thing, it was kind of heartbreaking. She had 2 or 3 photo albums of hedgehog pictures, many of which my ex had taken of the two of them together... Reggie sitting on the table while she was having breakfast, Reggie stealing her scrambled eggs, Reggie sitting on her lap while she watched TV, Reggie near the computer as she wrote an email, Reggie on her head, Reggie tearing around the house... yeah, seriously. So there's at least one person out there who found her hedgehog to be neither boring nor standoffish. But then, Judy devoted a SERIOUS amount of time to handling Reggie, and she lived alone, so I think he didn't have too many disruptions or stressors in his life once he got used to her.

Haha, that's so cute, Hydra! Yeah...I'mma probably be living alone...and I don't do anything but go to school and work so I have lots of time to chill at home with Mr.Hedgehog. Plus I'm nocturnal, too, so we'll have the same schedule.![]()
