    Dental Advice needed!

This January i had some filings done and two root canals. My problem is that when I was flossing I noticed a black spot on on of the teeth that had a filling, and it was actually on the filling part.
What lifestyle changes have people made to help improve their dental health?
Since having all of this work done I have religiously flossed and brushed my teeth 2x day, use ACT mouthwash, am working on quitting smoking, eliminating soda from my diet, and taking multi vitamens and I drink mainly beer in moderation.
I'm just very fustrated, I don't have any more money to put into my dental work, and I have over 5000 in dental bills on credit cards that i'm trying to pay off.
So I'm willing to try anything, any body have any natural remedies, like pills or how to makeup a mouthwash, or any ideas for lifestyle changes that would help?
My dentist gave me the line that some peoples teeth are just stronger than others, and you've got poor teeth. I refuse to beliee that there is nothing that I can do though to slow decay and improve the health of my teeth.
    Thanks !

    Take calcium. That could help.

My dentist told me that my chewing sugary gum was the reason why I needed two root canals. So i only chew sugar free if any.

Diet is the big one. Im just reading Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Weston Price who was a dentist in the early 1900s. Its an amazing book and very relevant today! Google for more info.
Magnesium and calcium suppliments will help - calcium on its own can do your body some serious damage.
Cutting out sugar from the diet cmpletely has been known to stop any further decay in teeth. (I dont suggest you use artificial sweeterners either btw) eating fresh raw and whole foods also and cutting out as much processed food as you can.
It might also be worth googleing natural or alternative dentistry - I have a couple of books and a set of cassettes which are about repairing holes in the teeth naturally. I dont think there is alot of info out there, but theres definatly some!
Also, I dont know if this is relevant to you or not, but women with implants often have more dental problems than those without. If its relevant at least that might be an answer.

You got the British genes too, huh?

I have had more dental trouble than any human should possibly have. A lot of it was due to my dietary habits as a kid, specifically my LOVE of sour fruits. I would routinely peel a lemon or a lime and eat it whole, the way you eat an orange, and I'd do that several times a day. Occasionally when waitressing I'd grab a lemon wedge from the drink station, dip it in sugar, and eat it. Delicious, but boy will it fuck with your teeth.

Your dentist is right though, some people just have bad teeth. It's genetic. You can make dietary changes but you're still going to need dental work sometimes. Me, I just paid a fortune last year to have my teeth bleached and they're already starting to take on a slight yellow tint, so I've had to limit coffee to an occasional treat once every few weeks.

I have weak teeth, too. Nice to look at, but not very strong. Take CoQ10 supplements--it is a very powerful antioxidant and is very good for the health of the gums. Healthy gums, healthy teeth, since pockets of gingivitis can really screw with your health--dental and overall. Drinking green tea also is good for mouth and tooth health. Taking a teaspoon of silica gel a day is also good for the teeth. I also found that taking trace mineral drops each made my teeth really white. Concentrace is a good brand.

Yup, genetics plays a big part, as well as where you grew up, foods you ate, water quality, regular dental visits, etc. When I emmigrated here, my teeth and my parents teeth were in horrible shape. Then my baby teeth fell out and I went to the dentist regularly and religiously. Aside from perhaps one cavity, mine have been great, didn't even need braces (although a gap have been slowly spreading for a few years...)

thank you for all of your help everyone! Aussie- thank you for the info on the holistic dentist I googled him and it was very interesting . I'm not looking for immediate results becasue I know this will take a while. But I'm going to start with the calcium and magnesium supplments, and drinking green tea. I have my next dentist apponitment in 4 months, so I guess it will be amazing if I don't have any new cavaties forming or problems, and ill see some improvment

Buy a softer toothbrush and invest in a Waterpik, the less abrasion on your dental enamel the better. & Tom's of Maine products has a few varieties of natural toothpaste that work much better than the popular brands.

I'm also going to start wearing a mouthguard at night since it might help...some people grind their teeth at night, others clench, some snap, all unchecked wear & tear on teeth.

Agreed. Plus, you don't have that nasty, gritty pasty taste in your mouth afterward.

I got most of my info about it from curezone, see links - but theres alot of stuff online if you google.

i would HIGHLY reccommend the strongest thing (besides calcium daily, brushing/flossing) that can be done... at-home fluoride treatments. i started a thread in BB too about my teeth- they're fucked for a very different reason, totally my fault, but after my 4 crowns, 5 fillings, and a root canal... i will be doing at-home fluoride treatments (like you get at the dentist.... ask him/her about them) to keep my teeth happy.

If you want to go the natural route definatly look into the dangers associated with flouride. Ive always lived in non-fluorinated
cities / towns and the rate of dental cavities is no different to fluorinated
    places.
    Some info here.

I just found this link which I though looked interesting.

Also here is a link to the book I mentioned earlier (-:
