    Default Problems shaving

So I've had to shave a few times for work now. I'm eastern european with that really thick, coarse, dark hair "down there." Well, shaving down there literally takes about 45 minutes as lots of the hair simply refuses to budge. When it finally gets removed I tend to bleed a whole lot from some of the actual hair follicles, not to mention I get a couple tiny nicks from being at it for so long. I tried leaving Nair on for the maximum amount of time but it only removed a couple tiny patches and mostly irritated my skin some more. If you have hair similar to mine, what do you do? Oh, I also get a major rash and tons of ingrowns, and have yet to be able to get it really smooth. I shave first with the grain, then in lots of different directions, and eventually have to resort to pulling the skin in different directions while shaving to raise the hairs.

With your hair being as thick as it is, are you using a new razor each time you shave? It shoudnt be takin you 45min to shave...Also, you may look into getting waxes instead of shaving. That way you can go hairless for 6-8 weeks before getting it done all over again..

Try soaking in the tub before shaving. Also shaving with conditioner can soften the hair so it is easier to shave. And I only go with the grain, then ONE time in the opposite direction. Shaving in lots of different directions is not a good idea.

Sounds like waxing might be the answer.

For shaving, though, you might like this site: http://www.greatrazors.com

They're regular razor blades, cryogenically treated so that they stay sharp about 3x as long as regular blades. The great thing is that they only cost a few more dollars than they do at the store. Huge money-saver. I just bought an 8-pack of Mach 3 blades and it only cost $21 including shipping, compared to about $16 at Target. One of these blades will last me at least a month, too.

If all else fails, try VEET. Its like nair but better. Just try a test patch somwhere on you before you go all out. And NEVER put it in the kitty. Just the outer labia and all that. It works for me but since our not blonde like I am, some hairs leftover hairs might show. It doesnt get every little hair but does a good enough job for me to get away with.

    Use one of these:

You would not BELIEVE how good these razors are. I keep trying to tell people but men's old-fashioned singled bladed razors are the BEST!

I do use a new razor every time. Waxing is out of the question because my hair is less thick on my legs and when that was waxed I was left bleeding out of many hair follicles down there and my legs swelled up for 2 days. There is no way I could get away with going to work while waiting for that hair to grow out. That soaking thing sounds like a good idea, don't know why I didn't think of it but I will definately give it a go.
I'm going to try finding one of those old-fashioned mens razors today. My rash down there is sooo bad today, thank goodness for strip club lighting that masks it.

Try using an electric trimmer/razor. That is the one fool-proof for me; use it to shave dry with baby powder.

Do you mean one of those razor blades that vibrates or an electrical trimmer?

I warn you, the start-up cost for one of those kits is about $100... for shaving cream, brush and razor and blades. The razor and blades alone should be about $30... but after that, refills are only $5 for 10! Much cheaper in the long run.

You could also try Aveeno Positively Smooth shave gel. It helps get a really close shave. I use it with Schick quatro (sp?) razors. I can never get a smooth shave with any of the women's razors I've tried. I think lilith may be on to something though. Because one of the things I like so much about the quatro razors is they have a single straight blade on the other side of it that seems to work even better. I'm gonna have to try the old fashioned razor
