    Default Caps? No braces- please!~

My coworker mentioned I should get caps for my nasty ass teeth (as seen below)... is it possible to just cover twisted teeth and make 'em all pretty? I really don't want braces, not at this point in my career (and invisline aren't covered and I don't want to lose my arm to them)....

So how does one get caps? I know NOTHING about caps. What should I do? Go to my dentist? I have Medicare and MediBank... Aussies, how much will it cost to get three or four covered up?

Compared to how much you're spending on boobs, Invisalign isn't that much. They can also use standard braces and affix them to the back of your teeth instead of the front. My friend did that, and you can't see the braces at all unless she opens her mouth really wide and leans her head back.

I would think about straightening your own teeth before you consider covering them with caps. The caps break and have all kinds of other problems.

Get clear braces. I had braces by age 12. I had those suckers on for 3 years. I am so glad my Dad paid for it.

I would get my teeth fixed before boobs, definitely. My friend had her six front teeth done for about 4k, I think. If you meet a dentist at work, grab his number and get him to hook you up with a deal!

You need to see an orthadontist for a quote and advice. medicare wont cover any of the cost, medibank might with some of it - I dont know I dont have private cover.
Im thinking around $600 per tooth and braces around $5,000 but Im not sure. Im about to fnd out about the braces as my son needs them. We have been told that if you ring around to get quote from different dentists the prices can vairy by up to a couple of thousand $.

I like how I said no braces and everyone said to get them... *sigh* (OH wait... sophiemarie said that... hey do you EVER read a thread or even the TITLE?!)

Okay, seriously... yes, I'm paying 9.8 on boobs but I'm paying FIVE GRAND on invisiline if I get it when I can just get caps! Just because I can pay 9.8k on boobs right now doesn't mean I can easily tack on another 5k in braces just because it's cheap in comparison.

My boobs are already planned and mostly paid for, so don't tell me to get my teeth first. I kinda can't afford inviline right now ESPECIALLY with the payments I'm making towards my boobs. It would be a step back to suddenly pay for something else entirely. Plus you're assuming I have self-conscious issues about my teeth and I don't... but I definitely do about my boobs... so I'm getting those first. The teeth are fucked up, I know, but I can wait for those. The recommendation to fix them was from a coworker.

I think the cost of caps or veneers are going to equal approximately the cost of braces. I weighed the options and I was looking at about 600-700 per tooth or 2500 for braces. I went ahead and did the full on dorky ass braces and I'm so glad I did. For another 500 I could have gotten white brackets (Tom Cruise style) and they would have been much less noticeable. I didn't consider lingual (behind the tooth) brackets at all because I was told they would take longer, impair my ability to speak slightly and chew up my tongue. I think my braces are kinda cute although I am staring to get sick of them after having them on so long.

I can't really see your teeth too well from the picture but it could be as little 6 months of wearing them plus a retainer full time after (but you can just wear it to sleep if you must). That would be if you just want them straightened and don't have any issues with your bite or midline being way off.

I've had my braces on for about a year and a half now and I'm looking at getting them off in 3-4months. I had major issues with my bite and alignment so I needed a full overhaul. This is my second time having those suckers too. I had them about 10 years ago for 3 years (I had to do two phases because my mouth and jaw were way out of whack but I needed to wait until I stopped growing for phase 2).

Caps or veneers might be a better option if its the shape of your tooth you are looking to change though. I'm still getting 4-6 veneers done after my braces because I have very circular teeth and hate them.

I'm sorry I'm not sure how prices would vary for Australia but I think you could call up and ask an orthodontist or general dentist if they do free consultations. That way you could find the exact cost of each and how long you might have to be in braces. I know they suck but I think anyone can handle a year in them if it makes you perfect in the long run. I feel braces are a healthier version in the long run (if you can do just braces) too because with veneers they have to scrape off part off part of your tooth before they bond the porcelain to it.

If you have never been to an ortho ever I do suggest a trip anyways so that he can look at your bite more closely than a general dentist can. My mom ended up with braces in her 50s and major TMJ pain because shed never been to an ortho to tell her that her bite and jaw were so misaligned that shed have problems later.

Ok, sorry you'd think I'd work for an ortho from this post. I'm just so happy with my teeth now lol

I can't handle the braces for a year. it would flat out ruin my career, no joke. Vanessa can back me up on how tight the private industry is in this area. I would most likely lose a lot of my respectability and job options if I got braces. My income would just about shatter... which is why I said caps - NO BRACES... in my post.

But I do 100% need to go to an ortho... my dentist told my mum that for years and if that stupid bint had just done it (but she can spend $800 on a suit...) I wouldn't be in this mess. Yeah, I blame her. He told her when I was SEVEN to see one... y'think in ten years she could save a grand or two, but no.

Now it's up to me to save a shitload so I can't let it affect my appearances.

    -.-

You are probably thinking of porcelain veneers.

Mine were $12,500, but I got ten teeth done, so $1250 per tooth. I thought I wanted 4 (you would want an even number done), but it might not look right. They should match in color, texture, arch, etc. most people get 8 or 10.

You can go to any dentist to do it, but I'd go to one that specialized in cosmetic dentistry.

I hear you abour braces. I wanted them fixed yesterday, and I still had issue with staining and chipping, and they just seemed too small

Chrissy68 just did it too. We love them.

Sorry I do tend to come off a little strongly on the pro-braces sometimes. I was just trying to include all the pros and cons I could think of to round out all of the options.

There are other alternatives besides braces or invisalign to straighten your teeth. Some orthos can move your teeth immediately in a surgical type procedure. They'd probably give you a retainer to keep them in place after, but you can pop that in and out or wear it to sleep. I'm not too sure how it works or what the cost is but I've heard of people having it done.

Anyways, I hope you find an option that works for you. I'm sure an ortho or dentist can find a solution that works for you cosmetically and price wise. Theres some amazing things they can do these days. I wouldn't worry too much about it if you can't fix it anytime soon. In the picture your teeth weren't anywhere on my radar of things to notice lol

I'm trying to find a good picture of what I mean about my teeth but I don't smile nearly enough in my photos (because of it) to show what I mean... here's a part where it's the side I wanna fix...

It's pretty much only 3 teeth I have issues with.. the rest are great but there's a twisted one and a huge gap because of it.. plus one is really really sharp.

I was originally told, by said coworker, that they were only $200 a cap... so I'm thinkin' I might save a TAD more before I decide, now.

pay the extra and get the braces!!

some of the hottest chicks at my club now, have braces, and i didnt even know! you cant see them, and they CERTAINLY dont hurt your income!!!

another option (we were having a massive braces convo earlier in the week) was a plate you wear 24/7. its like a clear mould thing, you cant even see it over your teeth, and it pushes them back to be straight. its about $500, but i dont know how much it would help a twisted tooth

or theres always denatl implants? its about $2k a tooth tho...lol

You're gonna want to smack me up but I gotta say it. Your boobs look lovely--why fuck with them? They look perfectly perky!

I think people are recommending braces because your teeth are spaced in a way that caps might not make enough of an improvement given the huge cost. You could always get behind the tooth braces.

Be careful with caps. They're not as permanent as the effects of braces. They're also not something to cut costs on. Badly placed ones can fuck up your jaw alignment, cause TMJ, and you'll have to get braces to realign your bite. Seriously, watch for TMJ. It will fuck up your joints for life. With braces, they can make adjustments if you start developing TJ. With caps, can be harder to adjust and you might have to get new ones.

Even though you don't want braces, I'd say go with Invisalign. It's a permanent solution, and you can keep them in place forever without having to worry about breakage or staining as long as you wear a retainer at night for the rest of your life. I know it sounds like a pain, but it's more cost-effective and permanent in the long run.

Oh, for those who don't know, TMJ = Temporomandibular Joint Disorder. It's when your jaw has bad alignment and clicks, hurts, pops out of the joint, wears down, etc. It's a fucking pain in the ass, and a lot of cases derive from not just stress and grinding, but also anything that changes your alignment, like caps, veneers, fillings, or badly done braces. Seriously, talk to the orthodontist about it and see what s/he can do if it does pop up, and insist that you get you bits checked regularly.

TMJ fucking sucks. I got it form my first orthodontist who was a crock. It started out as clicking when I opened my mouth. The quaxk told me that it was stress related and would get better if I stopped clenching my teeth. It didn't. It got worse. It started to click on both sides of my jaw, my right one clicked if I opened OR closed my mouth, and it overall hurt like fuck. I got a second round of braces to re-align my bite, which reduced the clicking to only one side of my jaw if I opened it. There was nothign he could do about that, as the bone was so scarred that nothing short of surgery would have fixed it, and even that's not a guarantee. It finallt stopped clicking because I wore down the bone so much. It still hurts if I'm stressed, but at least it doesnt' click.

Seriously, do all you can to prevent TMJ. If you do get caps, then get good ones. Seriously, I'd go with Invisalign, because it's more permanent and more easily adjusted if something starts to go wrong.

LM- I have tons of pictures now with my "megawatt" smile, but very few of my old ones because I hated my teeth too. Been there.

And I was shocked that it was so expensive, but you are paying for a dentist to expertly drill your enamel away. he can't do too much or you'll have bulky teeth. He can't do too little or you're have sensitivity. Also keep in mind that maintenance is also expensive too. If you get a cavity, you might need a new veneer (your dentist may or may not cover this.) You should probably go in for dental cleanings 3-4x per year. Also, they don't last forever. You might need to go through this whole process again in 15 years.

I joke that my veneers are like an Italian sports car. Expensive to buy. Expensive to maintain, but so gorgeous!

My mother has veneers and she loves them. I think they would be the best option for you LM if you can get the money because the whole tooth process is a lot shorter then braces. From looking at those competition photos for the Australian sex industry awards or w/e it was I can see how you have to be at the top of your game because there is so much competition. Do you have any regulars that could help you out?

braces THEN veneers. I have braces now. I had ceramic and now metal. I never went like I was supposed to with ceramic so that's why I have metal now..anyways... I dont even notice em'anymore..although I dont get all toothy in photos. But I did it so i can have veneers and it all look NICE not ..well...just slapped on there

I can't tell by pics very well, but it looks like you have an overbite, if that's the case you need to go ahead and get braces then when the braces are done , the veneers can take place. But with an overbite and spending that kind of money on veneers you run the risk of possibly messing up the dental work because the teeth will be hitting each other at some weird angle

Its better to do it right, then rush to do and have to REDO it later on.

If you're getting quoted for $5000 for Invisalign, you may as well get them instead of caps.

The average price for metal orthodontic braces is $4000, so for an extra $1000 you'll get the same results without having to live with a metal mouth. But hey, having a metal mouth ain't bad either. It works for me.

The problem with your teeth, LM, seems to be the spacing and positioning, not the teeth themselves. As far as I can tell, your teeth are white, not chipped, not gigantic and horsey or tiny and weird, not rotten... they're just positioned at unflattering angles. Now, I'm not a doctor, but I'm going to say this anyway, and it's not going to be what you want to hear... look into braces. Seriously. I would be a very unattractive girl if I hadn't had braces, so I do understand the importance of nice teeth.

And yet, there is something to be said for the virtue of patience, and the old adage of "if it ain't broke, why fix it?" Veneers are a much more invasive procedure than braces, which, by definition, damages the structural integrity of your teeth. Well-done veneers shouldn't lead to massive problems, but they're not designed to last forever, unlike your natural teeth, which, with proper care, CAN last for the rest of your life. If you were to straighten them and wear a retainer at night once in a while, you will have effortlessly nice teeth for the rest of your days. With veneers, while your teeth will be beautiful RIGHT NOW RIGHT NOW, you'll have to deal with them repeatedly throughout your life, and you may be susceptible to tooth problems.

Now, please don't take this to mean that I'm anti-veneers. Not at all. I love all cosmetic procedures and am thankful for the existence of plastic sugery and the like. But your teeth, honestly, look a lot like mine did, and I know you don't want to HAVE braces, but you might ultimately be much happier with the RESULTS of braces. I hated braces, but I am so, so thankful I tolerated them.

I'm going to check out the back braces. I absolutely cannot have anything that shows.

And again - I absolutely cannot put off my surgery for my teeth. It's like taking two steps back to do that, really! Especially since there's nothing MAJORLY wrong with my teeth, they're just funky angled.

And Natalie, thanks for understanding! I don't work in clubs so I don't have regulars. I'm in the private show industry which is that much more competitive. If they see a girl down, they WILL kick her.

    I found a place that'll do $400 a tooth.... mrr...

But I'll check both ideas out.

I just can't show any metal. Ever.

Good luck, whatever you do. However, I'd hate to see you with horsey teeth, the Bugs Bunny look, sensitive teeth, or if you can't afford the upkeep or if you have to get them replaced, or if you get a nasty plague of TMJ. Sometimes delayed gratification is the best.
