    Default Anybody from Melbourne?

    Hi girls,
I'm considering starting dancing and was wondering which clubs in Melbourne would be best for a new dancer. I'm 18 and have was considering giving Centerfold a go, but was also interested in Showgirls Bar 20 and Mens Gallery but heard they were difficult to get work at. As I haven't stripped before I was also wondering the expectations of the clubs with stripping and contact (I don't think I would be comfortable having contact with customers) and also the routine, like how you get money and where you dance etc. I'm looking for a club with the least contact and less nude stuff.
Greatly appreciated if anybody is able to help. Thanks!

I'm in Melbourne, but not dancing currently. Jaizaine and Aussiepunkshocker both work at Centrefold, they'd be able to give you some advice.

Pretty much all the clubs here are fully nude, but there's no contact at most of them.

    Hi there
I work at centrefoldlounge which is also owned by the same company as mens gallery so if you work at one you can also do shifts at the other one.

For a first time dancer I would highly recommend it over mens gallery - it can be very very competitive there and there are girls there who have been in this business for 10 years or more. If you dont know how to hustle you will find it very hard to compete with them.

One thing is no one teaches you how to hustle - which sucks a bit but you will work out your own style soon enough - trial and error.

As for nudity - every club in Melbourne is full nude (as far as I know). Rest assure that you will get used to it so quickly. I cant believe how quickly I got used to being nude and it doesnt bother me at all.

There is no contact at centrefolds - it is a very clean club to work at. If a customer touches you they will get kicked out and u keep their money (as they pay upfront). management are very supportive of their girls and will take your word over the customers.

You only get paid by customers - not the club. You are not an employee, each girl is responsible for making her own money.
Clubs charge you a house fee to work there (at centrefoldlounge it is $30 on thursday, friday, saturday nights and free the other nights).
You make all your money from customers.

Stage dances - where you do a nude dance on the stage are $20 (you dont really have to do it if you dont feel comfortable, a few girls dont do them).

    Dance rates:
    $20 per song
we generally charge $50 for 3 songs or 10 mins

You do the dances in a private dance area - there are other dancers with customers in there as well so you wont be all alone with the customer.

When on stage you dance in bra/bikini and g-string.

Some other clubs allow different sorts of dress than us but centrefold and mens gallery are considered gown clubs so u wear a dress on the floor when talking to customers etc but when on stage u must remove your dress and dance in bra/bikini and g-string.

I havent worked anywhere else so I cant offer any opinions on the other clubs.

I would highly recommend Dallas Dancers as a first club as it is the smallest club by far of all the clubs along King St. Stick to the CBD! Do not work for any of the Kittens chain of clubs in Melbourne unless you are comfortable with nudity and the customer being able to touch you.

Otherwise give Centerfolds a go. They both seem to be good clubs for beginners/newbies and if/when you feel confident enough to move on (if you want to move on it is totally up to you) you can give the other clubs a go.

As for the nudity, you're in the wrong country as the greater majority of strip clubs all across this nation are full nude!

This industry is not for everyone. Think long and hard before you leap in.

As for the rest, look around the other sections of this forum as you will find what you seek especially the NEWBIE section.

Thanks so much girls for all the info! It is all so helpful. I'm think I'm going to start in a couple of months after exams at uni. I'll be sure to check out both centrefold and dallas dancers in the meantime and make my decision then. Just trying to find out stuff about it before I start

    Hi Charlotte
Just saying hello really as I think your questions have been answered already.
I recomend Centrefolds for a first club, its so friendly there and they are very helpful etc. Although its the largest club in Melbourne, it doesnt feel that way. IMO Showgirls bar 20 feels much bigger and you get that 'lost" feeling there where as Centrefolds has an all over good vibe (and theres less stairs hurray!)
Dallas Dancers has bad lighting if your a bit shy about your body, lol! Plus its less organised, but still a very friendly enviroment.
I havent met a dancer yet who has nice things to say about The Mens Gallery. As a customer I have found it ok, but everyone seems to say its a very bitchy and competitive enviroment to work in.
    Anyway, welcome to SW (-:

People can say the same thing about Goldfingers and Spearmint Rhino about the bitchyness and competativeness.... I take it for granted these things will happen when you have 50+ dancers working the same night. Granted, these things happen regardless of where you work in this country from what I have experienced.

Just be friendly (say HI etc) to your co workers yet keep to yourself and work.. and you should do alright.

MG is supposed to be really bad for the bitchyness otherwise I wouldnt have mentioned it. Its Centrefolds sister club so there is a bit of crossover sometimes and everyone mentions the difference between the two clubs, staff, dancers, customers, I havent met one single person that says "Oh MG is a nice club" lol. I havent worked at MG myself though although I would like to sometime despite what Ive heard. As a customer Ive found it ok...

I have met many dancers who dont like gold fingers cause it is too bitchy and skanky, I have met many dancers who dont like mens gallery cause it is too bitchy, I have met many dancers who dont like rhino cause it is too bitchy, I have met people who dont like bar20 cause it is too bitchy - so I think the amount of bitchiness is not secluded to the one venue, more-so spread like the black plague!

Wherre ever large amounts of money can be earnt and peoples egos are on the line, people unfortunantely do get hurt! This is simply the fact of the industry we are in! That is why you get paid highly for it!

Yeah look Im not suggesting that bitchyness isnt in other places, just that if youre just starting out MG might not be the best option.

This proberly isn't the place to post this after all the talk about bitchiness but I'm actually really excited about starting. I wish I could start sooner but I've got so much on at uni and am finishing up in the next few weeks at my current job too.
Anyway, just really wanted to say how much I'm loving this website, so helpful with chat on all (and i emphasis ALL) topics! So good.
And by the way, although I can see how an industry like this would have bitchy girls, all my contact with you girls on this site has been great. I didn't expect everybody to be so helpful!

    This site is great! (-:
Really, within Australia I dont think you have to worry about bitchyness much overall. Yes it happens sometimes but in my experience most clubs are pretty friendly. I have worked in one or two that are not so good but if you have good self esteem, keep yourself to yourself and stick to the rules it shouldnt be a problem. (-:

so which clubs in Melbourne are *not* gown-only clubs?

Wait, I should be more specific. Which clubs in Melbourne are not gown clubs AND are clean...and how is the money potential in those clubs?

I don't care about the bitchy factor; I can deal with that. And by "clean", I mean not rampant with extras--fingering, BJ/HJs, pussy licking, sex, etc. I don't mind doing contact dances (as long as custies aren't touching my pussy or breasts), and I don't mind doing some grinding (only if it's allowed...I'm not going to be the one coming over and dirtying up the club, lol).

I would work in a gown club if I had no other option, or if it was by far the best club in the area money-wise....but if there's a non-gown club in the city where I can make just as much money (or nearly as much), I'd definitely prefer to work there.

The regulations (dress and otherwise) in most gown clubs drive me insane, and I hate not being able to have a lot of variety in what I wear. (And I have a zillion short dresses and bra/skirt outfits that I would hate to waste by never wearing them again after I move in a few months. :*( )

Yeah tell me about dress codes, lol.
Showgirls Bar 20, Gold Fingers and Dallas Dancers are not gown clubs. Mens Gallery and Centrefolds and Spearmint Rhino (I think) are. Im not sure about the rest. Kittys isnt a gown club either but its a touching club. (All the other Melb clubs are non-contct.)
All of the clubs are clean, christ I dont think youll find any Aussie strip club rampant with any of that stuff you mentioned above - with the exception of some of the clubs in Sydneys Kings Cross which are legal brothals anyway.

"extras" to alot of Melbourne dancers is when a dancer has allowed a customer to touch her ... fingering, oral sex and any sex doesn't even come into it! There are brothel near-by for all of those pleasures so there is no real need to have them within the club.

Besides, if a girl wants to finger herself she can be paid decent money doing private party "natural masturbation" shows in and around Melbourne.

MG, Centrefolds and SR are all "gown" clubs. The rest are not.

Thanks; that helps. I was thinking of auditioning at either Bar 20 or Kittens (like I said, I don't mind contact dances as long as no one's being allowed to touch my pussy or breasts.) How is the earning potential at those two clubs?

If u dont want your breasts touched dont bother auditioning at kittens - iit is the standard dance there to have your breasts touched and nipples sucked - and i mean STANDARD you dont get paid more for that.

Earning potential good at any king st club including bar20.

You wont find any extras that u r talking about in melbourne. prostitution is legal and usually cheaper at a licensed brothel than it would be to pay a dancer for a non-contact dance in the hope of getting extras.
men can get sex for as little as $80 in some brothels in melbourne so guys looking for that dont go to clubs where it costs $50 for an air-dance.

Goldfingers is another good one thats not a gown club.

    hey girlies...

i'm going to be incredibly parochial and stand up for MG

This is the first club i worked at-i was liitle, young and totally naive but i stand by that it is a great place to work.

Some of the bitchy thing is myth, some of it, I get where it comes from,

firstly, YOU WILL RUB THE GIRLS UP THE WRONG WAY IF YOU STRETCH THE RULES.
I'm not acusing anyone, i'm just pointing out that it tends to get a particularily bad reaction in that place, even if, as sometimes happens, its done innocently.
For instance, if i see a new girl allowing a guy to touch her i'll tell management. if she does it again next week-i'll pull her up and say 'look, you don't have to do that - so don't'
If she's still doing it 3 weeks later i'll tell every other girl in the club (not quite, but you get my drift...)
I'm not doing it to be bitchy-i'm doing it cause mens gallery tends to self police-if you know the girls are on the look out 'extras' don't tend to become endemic
ALSO, i'm not doing it to steal money-i'm a firm believer in hard you work = how much you earn and no other factor.
Overall, the main reason we do this is cause we dont have to bend the rules to make money (not saying of course that it doesn't happen, as in every club) and we dont want it to start down that path

Mens gallery is high hustle and not particularily relaxed but you can and will make great money if your prepared to put in the hours.
I honestly can say the girls on the main part are lovely. There are 50, 60, 70 girls on a fri saturday-a huge number so maybe one or two are a bit dodge but for the most part they are very proffesional and if you stick the rules (and don't be late to tables!) they WILL treat you wonderfully.

Also, I know that centrefold people seem to think we're hatefull and up ourselves (which we're not!)-for the most part i think its urban legend from the centrefold girls who got over mens cause the'd been there too long and wen't to centrefold when it opened!!! heaps of gallery girls do the odd shift at centrefold too and always talk about how relaxed the club is and how they loved it (bar it being quieter on the weeknights) - they never come back and bitch or say awful things

Seriously though, like anywhere, if you keep out of other peoples business you'll be fine. I accept that its my opinion, and i'm sure there are people who've had genuinely bad experiences but, on my part its a very proffessional excellent club to be at

if more clubs in melbourne adopted that staff relationship, then it would be easier to make money at other clubs too

xtina im so glad u posted that, i think we needed to hear from a mg girl.

i have never done a shift at mg so i wondered if it was somewhat of an urband legend. also one of the girls who started that talk at centrefold was the type of girl who always has problems with someone so i took what she said with a grain of salt.

the main reason i wont work at mg is coz the girls who occasionally come over and do a shift - it is very obvious that their hustling skills are far superior to mine (if in fact I have a hustle at all is questionable). I think I would find it hard to compete at mg coz i cant hustle.

i agree that there are bitches and nice girls at every club.

Its good to see a post from someone who works at MG
My comments were just in relation to the fact that a newbie asked, the comments were not meant to be a general guide for everyone.
I just think if youre just starting out stripping for the first time you may want to consider starting somewhere that is open and friendly for obvious reasons.
Im not personally worried bout bitching etc as a general rule of thumb, I would like to work there sometime. Ive just never known any other club to get talked about so much in that way by its own staff, dancers and customers thats all, so I mentioned it.
I dont think Centrefold people are hateful towards MG at all and Ive never heard anyone suggest MG dancers were up themselves either. Some of the newer girls (to stripping) have just had bad experiencies when theyve gone there to work and some others are just scared of MG because people keep on coming in and spreading the rumour.
My comments wernt meant to be offensive of anything and certainly it wasnt meant to imply that the bitchy thing applied to everyone who works there.

I am in total agreeance with the rule thing though, I like that!

Totally did not take it offensively in any way at all honey!!!!

The whole 'high hustle' can be a bit intimidating, but its also a great learning tool too-seriously, i've been there for ages and do ok most of the time and there are still girls i will watch for inspiration!!! You sorta watch the way other girls do it and copy them (that's how i learnt anyways!)-you get the hang of it pretty soon!

Sigh. You all are getting me excited now with all this talk about Melbourne.

The only thing I'm freaking out about is, what if no clubs will hire me because of the work visa?

I'll HAVE one, but it will only allow me 20 hours per week of work...and supposedly all the clubs there require girls to work 3 shifts a week...which is more than 20 hours. (I personally wouldn't mind working 3-4 shifts a week, but don't want to risk having my visa taken away.

Centrefoldlounge has no minimum shift requirement.
I think mens gallery has a one weeknight, one weekend requirement.

I cant imagine a strip club enforcing the rules of your work visa....
