    Default Hair Waver

I'm the last person on earth to know about hair wavers! I really want to get one - anyone know which type is better?

Kinda looks like a crimper..you remember when everyone in the early 90s crimped their hair??

It's not like a crimper at all. I have both of those and prefer the first one. It gives you loose, lush waves rather than small, tight ones. Also, the first one is better for your hair. The 3 barrel one makes my hair feel fried and I no longer use it.

^^Scroll down to post 104 for a pic of my hair when I used this (the first one). I wanted tighter waves in this pic, so I hairsprayed first and held the waver down for a longer time. If I want looser waves, I don't use hair spray beforehand and only hold the waver down for a few seconds. I'll see if I have a pic with looser waves for ya. I love it, it's definitely my favorite hair appliance.

Look on folica.com. They have good rating systems, free shipping, and trial periods.

LatinaRose, is the one you have hard to use? I guess because it looks so unlike a curling iron I imagine it would be harder to use. Also, My hair comes down to my shoulders....it should work fine right?

Oh - and your hair looks great in that picture! Wish my hair was that long

Oh one more thing....I naturally have wavyish damaged hair....do I use this waver thing on my hair after it dries or should I strighten it first?

It's really easy once you get the hang of it. I don't hold it very long at the top near the root since I don't want an obvious crease. It should look fine on your hair length. There's a couple other recent threads on growing out your hair, check em out. Your hair will be long before you know it!

Oh, after I wave all my hair, I like to use some hair texturizer on it to help separate the waves and make em look a little messy, not so perfect. Use it on dry hair, I wouldn't think you'd need to straighten your hair first. Using more heat will be extra damaging.

Wow thanks for the info Latina Rose...I feel retarded for thinking it was a crimper lmao. I think that would look good on you Trouble, your hair is already wavy so it wouldn't take long to do so it would be less damadging.

The VS one will fry your hair seriously. It caused some serious breakage in the front where my super light highlights are. If you want one for tighter waves, look for one that is ceramic. I will never use that VS one again, even tho it looks cute.

Oops! Sorry I'm retarded. I didn't realize the VS one was the first one. I had the 2nd one that was a VS one too. You'll be fine with the first one, my bad.

i have a ceramic version of the second one, and i love it. you can do some really awesome stuff with it... it's just a matter of knowing how to use it properly.

If you have long hair or thick hair, be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get dressed. Last time I did waves it took over an hour----just to do my hair. Each little section has to be done individually for a few seconds, then move down the shaft, then again x 5. Then on to the next strand of hair. It all adds up to be extremely time consuming.

^ not with the triple barrel you don't. there's a really fast and efficient way of doing it... i used to do it like you said above and it took hooours. but if you weave the hair through the barrels in like a figure 8 motion, it takes you way less time.

Agh! I'm so indecisive about which one to get now...the first or second link I posted? I hate chossing! LOL! So from my understanding the first one will give me looser waves and the second one will give more structured and tight waves? Okay...I have shoulder length hair that's kind of layered that I'm in the process of growing out....which should I get!? I totally need to work on my indecisiveness! Shame on me!

Search online to see if you can find a ceramic one.

I have the triple barrel one, but never thought to do it like that. Now I feel like a retard for spending so many hours doing it the slow way. I need to dig the thing out and try that. Is it dangerous for waist-length hair? I dont want to get tangled in the barrels and fried.

All I could find was this one time I did it years ago.

LatinaRose posted a link to her pic at the top of the page. I think it looks much better the way she did it. My style is more crimp-like, and hers came out all soft and wavy. Next time I try it, I'm going for the soft and wavy look.

Any hints and tips would be appreciated!

So I went to target yesterday and got the funny looking one that LatinaRose said she has. I tried my hardest not to use it one my hair for work last night becuase if it came out horrible I knew I wouldn't have time to fix it! Well....I couldn't resist. LOL! I started using it and at first I looked lie krusty the clown! I just looked like I had giant z's in my hair and it sort of stuck out on the sides. By the time I got done and pinned my bangs up it wasn't too bad. It was managable for the night. I definitely need to work with it for awhile. Plus I think the fact that I have shorter layered hair gives it a different look. The barrel piece is pretty big too!
I'm gonna keep it though....I think with soem practice I can get the hang of it. I still might get the other one (a ceramic one of course) in the fututre, just to see how the look differs on my hair.

So LatinaRose....anymore tips on using this thing?
