Default Need to get a new mattress...

And would rather sleep on the floor in my new place on a sleeping bag until I can afford a good one. Not a bajillion dollar one, but I wanna actually get something worthwhile, because I have enough trouble sleeping without a shitty mattress.

Anybody in love with theirs that wants to brag? I have no idea which commercial to trust. They all sound so convincing.

(Oh and I know I could just go to a mattress place, but seriously, the best salespeople I've ever met have been mattress people, I swear they can talk me into selling my soul for a cot...they scare me, so I wanna have an idea before I go)

I could only WISH that my gorgeous wife were the reason I need a new one. I need a new one because I'm moving into an unfurnished house and I'm currently using the bed that came in this dumb dorm/apartment.

Honestly pooka, I say go cheap and simple first.

Buy a Futon and get a 60 dollar memory foam cover for NOW, then buy a bed and use the footahn as a couch.

    Hell I did it.

    THAT will change.

    Satin sheets are very romantic,

mmm...Jersey knit are my favorite to.
Honestly? My most comfy bed ever was this old ass mattress that was given to me. It was so old it had a big dip in the middle, like sleeping in a canoe. I liked sleeping right in that hole tho. This mattress also had a HUGE hole down to the springs where the dog decided to eat it.
I bought 2 egg crate foam thingys, piled them on top each otehr, topped that with a big down comforter, topped that with another big fluff comforter, covered all that with a sheet, then put the top fitted sheet on.
That bed was like sleepign on a big marshmellow. I loved it.

Ok..that dont help you now. I dunno...me and my bf went around to every store that sold mattresses, and laid down on them all till we found the perfect comfy one. We have one now with a pillow top...btu I couldnt tell you who made it.

Memory foam bedding rocks, I'm using that right now & will never use anything else.

If you're dead-set on a standard mattress set, get a Costco membership & buy a set from them. It's a proper investment because as a dancer you will be in pain if you sleep on a substandard bed (your body needs to be at ease to repair the strain of dancing.) Just wanna see a cutey like you maximize her earning years in the field.

I bought a Serta about 4 years ago for around $300 (which included the box spring & delivery) & I love it!! I like really firm mattresses so it was cheaper than a cushy one. Mattress salesmen are really pushy! He kept trying to persuade me to get one of the soft/more expensive ones, but I'm still very happy with what I got. (My back hurts & I can't sleep well if the mattress is too soft.) You could always get one of those pillow-top covers to soften up a firmer mattress.

I LOVE jersey knit sheets too - so cozy but not to warm.

I'll second a Serta mattress. Mox and I bought a pillow top queen size one for about $500 (included box spring) a few months ago and I we love it!

I used to have horrible back pain on our old bed, but now it's completely gone!

I'm getting a tempurpedic!!! H had one, and I miss sleeping with him so bad.
it was sooooo nice. I loved it. Get one, seriously. I slept only like 3 hours, but felt like I'd taken something and slept 9, every night. It was seriously that good.

I love the tempurpedic/memory foam as well. It has ruined me for all others. Prior to that I had a Sleep Number bed and that was pretty great, too. Sleeping is one of my great pleasures; it's up there with food, sex, and smoking, and nothing but the best will do!

However, you're on a student budget so I say buy the best mattress you can afford and get the memory foam topper because you probably don't want to spend the funds on a tempurpedic mattress right now.

God I hate to respond but Pooka it depends on how long you expect to keep this mattress, i this is a just for now, then definately go cheap, decent, but, not bottom of the barrell.

if you looking to hold onto it, then stay-away from pillow-top. The foam in the pillowtop will wear out over time.

i used to make beds, box springs, etc, to put myself thru school, so i do have some back ground...

I like my Stearns & Foster okay (~$1200, queensize), except that I let the salespeople talk me into a softer mattress than I really wanted. I told them I like it REALLY HARD, but they just wouldn't believe me. I could've sent it back, I guess, but it just seemed like too much trouble.

I've heard that the mattress stores actually use different names for the same exact mattress so that people can't comparison-shop so easily...Is that true?

No, you don't want anything less than the bajillion dollar one. Nothing else will do! Yes, fine champagne, caviar, and a bajillion dollar mattress with satin sheets. The bare minimum essentials.

    I hate soft mattresses!

And, actually it's just that there are few actual mattress manufacturers. They just get sold with multiple brand names. Like refrigerators.

agreed, get a real futon (cotton filled, not foam). just hang it up or stow it in the closet when you don't need it and you get your room space back.

also, you don't have to worry about bed or futon frames creaking.

I had to throw out my queen size ensemble (mattress plus base) due to a bed bug infestation. The fold out sofa bed in the lounge room is my new bed and bedroom. It's okay. I get a decent part of the day to myself whilst my flatmate is asleep. Plus when I am asleep he is generally in his room anyway so I don't have to worry about him making any noise in the kitchen or other areas.

It is only the cats that are a handful. lol.

I'm sleeping on this until I am 100% sure that the bed bugs have died out completely in my bedroom (where the infestation originated from due to them coming along with me from one of my work trips away) so then I can afford another decent mattress.

As for the futon suggestion above, it is a seriously good suggestion! I'm even considering it and using on the floor in my bedroom or on my fold out sofa bed.

If I ever do get a proper bed (set) I will go to the store and test out the different beds before I buy. You have to try before you buy with the beds in a store. Just tell the mattress salesperson to leave you alone (like you would an annoying customer) for a while whilst you try to find a matress that you want to purchase. If you are assertive about it, then why would they make a sucker out of you?
