    Default Picture of my scars...

Ok here is a picture of the scars on my arm that I'm always complaining about. I've had them for about a year and I am SO self-consious about them. Do they look bad enough to get the scar revision (I posted about that a while back) or should I wait a while longer? (Mederma didn't do shit)

Go to a doc and see if you can get some prescription strength hydroquinone blraching cream. Try to get a formula with sunscreen, or put sunscreen on after you use the cream. I had some nasty burn scars from self-mutilation that are now only noticable if you're inches away.

Is there any way I can get that without a prescription? I don't have insurance nor do I have a doctor.

Obagi puts out a good formula. It takes a little time and you have to apply it every day, but it works. That will help for the redness.

I'm having awesome results with IPL treatments. I'd highly recommend getting it done if your scars bother you that much.

At a year old, that injury/scar is just now completing its healing and gaining its full strength as a tissue. If you keep it protected from the sun, it will continue to fade. My vote is to give it more time and wear lots of sunblock.

I take fish oils and my scars have really been fading fast. I'm a big fan of doing things internally now...topicals never really did much for me.

Tis true. Battel wounds not only show where you've been, but show how far you've come.

Can nobody tell what those scars are from? Of COURSE she'd want them removed! Everyone knowing everyday what kind of person she was... it's horrific (edit: people's opinions are horrific, not your scars, babe).

You can get scars surgically made better, I believe. But you don't have a doctor.. and I think it's too late for creams... but Vitamin E always helped my scarring, especially with cocoa butter.

Neosporin makes some silicone sheets as well... they're called Neosporin Scar Solution, you can find them in the band-aid aisle. They've worked well on all my scars (raised red/white ones that resemble yours.) They take the redness out and make them less puffy. You have to wear them for 12 hours a day but I usually put mine on in the evening before bed and it's not too bad. They are expensive but worth it in my opinion... much cheaper than doctor visits or lasers, too.

You can do a laser treatment to remove the pigment from scars, although I don't know what those are from. Are they raised keloids or flat?

You can see more faded ones more down her arm. I don't know of anybody who cuts like that for any reason other than self-mutilation. No doctor would cut like that, no murderer would...

If you've cut yourself, you can tell.

I have them in almost the same spot, for the same reason.

I left them - they remind me how far I've come.

Palmer's makes it OTC at half the strength of prescription. Apply 2-3 times per day, and protect it from the sun.

I wouldn't worry about them too much unless they really bother you. I have a scar on my arm from years ago and I don't even think about it anymore. Sort of reminds me of my rough teenage years.

The fading of scars is symbolic. It helps forget the past and the hurt associated with it. When I was 17, I had gotten dumped by my first boyfriend, who was also my best friend. He was delusional, bipolar, and egocentric, which hurt me in so many ways because he couldn't fucking comprehend anyone else's feelings. Among his actions were telling everyone that I was clingy and that I wanted to have sex with him but he did the good Christian thing and refused, he told me that there was no difference between friendship and dating, etc. I was crushed. I had only started to trust people, and this happened. I took a soldering iron and branded the words "slut" on my breasts. I was so fucking ashamed at him telling everyone that I was a sex fiend that I swore that I'd brand myself and never let anyone see the scars. I got over it eventually, and I learned that the ex has severe issues, doesn't take his bipolar meds, and is a deadbeat in general because he can't fucking empathize with anyone. In the meantime, I got some prescription scar fading cream and went to a shrink. Both the physical and psychological scars eventually faded. Now, you can't see them unless you really, really look. Heck, I went on to become a stripper! It's great to have that painful reminder gone.

LuckiCharm your scars will eventually fade. I can't see any of the scars on my arms anymore and those were from high school. I still have some on my thighs and stomach, but I know what doesn't kill me will only make me stronger

And Hatshepsut wow you are strong. I've come pretty close to carving 'worthless' into my skin. Thank goodness I haven't.

Scars may take a very long time to heal, possibly years. I have a burn scar on my arm that has faded to almost nothing in 2 years. The best advice I can give is to keep it away from the sun and tanning beds or put sunblock on it.

I don't recommend hydroquinone as it is for overpigmentation, which is not the case for you.

Mederma actually works. I've been using it on a year old scar and it really helped smooth and fade the scar. Don't use hydroquinone because you really don't have discoloration or pigmentation. A tube of Mederma is about $30- but it is so worth it. Works for stretch marks too by the way.
