The Tale Of The Pantry Cat, ...and it isn't one of mine! lol

Okay. I live in a unit with two cats. Only one is 'active' the other is sick (my cat has cancer). The 'active' one has met this cat yet isn't concerned with it anymore (he's too bloody busy trying to eat my cat's food to worry about this cat lol)....

Anyway, I was putting out the rubbish and recycle-ables this morning around 10am ish. The cat came out from behind the bins downstairs... took to me and followed me up and into the house... it's a very timid/shy cat. Anyway, it came in following me thru the unit's back door which leads into our kitchen. It wandered into a little bit of the house a bit (only a little bit) before making itself comfortable on the bottom of the pantry.

Meanwhile my flatmate's cat (Puddy, the active one) was being kept at a good distance by me yet he was curious about this other cat naturally.

It isn't an exciting tale this story just that the cat made itself comfortable there.. even sleeping.. and only now at 3.30pm did I bother kicking back outside (I took it back to where I originally found it).

As much as it was timid/shy, it was friendly enough. It would even allow me to pick it up except it just always had this overwhelming urge to hide.

I just thought it an interesting side note to my day today. Yes we had an orange tabby (so I'm assuming it is female) on the bottom of the pantry for most of today. Only Puddy met it. Bibs (my cat) never did.

I will post a photo later today of it in the pantry I took earlier.

So this isnt your cat but proceeded to make himself comfy in your pantry anyways? Mooch! Jk How cute. My cat does that to other people. He'll wander in and has made a place on peoples fridges before.

My cat (Bibs) hasn't the energy to wander anymore. As for my flatmate's cat, Puddy, he just doesn't seem to WANT to wander anymore and the most he will wander is outside in the stair well or near-by this block of units.

This isn't the first cat that has "enjoyed" my hospitality! There was another one we both won't forget in a hurry called Captain Mexico (the name on its collar) which did a grand ol' tour of the unit quite a few times before it decided to be on its way (and it was a lovely natured cat as well) last year.

    Yes it isn't my cat

aww too cute. This little kitty wandered up to my apt. a while back. I brought him in, pet him and fed him for about a day cause i felt sorry for the poor little thing. Some evil frat boys had shaved patches of his fur off all over and cut a few of his whiskers!!! Stupid fucking cruel bastards...I took mister kitty to a no kill shelter...he was sooo sweet.

So sweet..he obviously belongs to someone(collar)...too bad he isnt sleeping in his owners house....

sorry..I'm not a fan of outdoor pets, esp letting them roam...you could have been aperson who would have tortured and killed the cat instead of letting him sleep on your floor....and the next person still might.

We have a new kitty thats been hanging around here. Really sweet intact male. He'll wander in the house from time to time...I'm trying to acclimate him slowly to living inside..then I will take him to be fixed and vaccinated.

The collar means he belonged to someone ONCE, not necessarily now.

When Evil came to live with us (his picture is in the Rescued Pets thread), he had on a collar, but it was so tight it was choking him. Someone had put it on him when he was a kitten, then abandoned or dumped him.

When McGillicuddy came to live with us, someone had gone to the trouble of getting him castrated. (Hmm..another possibility for the frat boys?) Then he also was abandoned or dumped.

Seems hard to believe, but some people will get rid of a cat they have made part of the family.

Your shy kitty looks a lot like Evil. He looks like a sweet cat. I'm glad he found you.

Unfortunately no sign of Pantry Cat today. Will see if he turns up any other day this week.... He must be new to the neighbourhood because he really wasn't confident about his environment. All the other 'neighbourhood' cats are confident about their surroundings.

I only allow cats outside if I am also outside. I've had my cats die in various ways over my lifetime that I am very protective of them now.

I even saw one of my cats (it was just a kitten) be killed by a car. That memory will last with me for my lifetime and it might be one of the many reasons behind why I'm so protective of my own animals. I don't want that memory to be repeated.................ever!

In a way I'm glad my cat is too ill to be bothered about the outside world. She doesn't really have the energy to go all the way down the stairs to go outside. The other cat (Puddy) has also by his own violition become an indoor cat.

When he does go outside I know for a fact that he doesn't go far. He loves to hang in the stairwell and/or keep close to the property. Old age might be making him want to stay closer to home. He used to be a wanderer.

Well, he chose you, obviously. If he is in fact a stray, it looks as if he wants you to be his new mommy. He has some very nice manners, by how you have described him. If he isn't a stray, he could be lost. Nothing sadder than a little lost kitty, especially one that is so sweet and friendly--domesticated cats don't do very well when they have to fend for themselves. If he comes around again, offer him some food---strays are usually ravenous, and it is a good way to tell if he is actually lost, or just visiting.

Good point..the collar could be old.

My tiki came to us as a stray...he was fixed AND declawed. So someone kept him as a pet..then tossed him out with no defenses. He was SOOO scrawny when we got him. So sad. He's a big fat boy now! And he is the biggest lovebug too..all he wants is to curl up on your lap and sleep.
