Default looking into auditioning...gathering Portland info

OK, may as well introduce myself... I'm seriously looking into auditioning for a club, and had a couple of concerns/questions...

I live in Portland which has a LOT of clubs, and great public transportation. I don't currently own a car. Would it be an ABSOLUTE necesity for me to get a car in order to stay safe on the way home? Money is really tight at the moment so its quite a bit out of my budget.

Secondly, I'm 19. Does anyone know Portlands policy regarding my ability to work around alcohol? Or, better yet, any clubs that hire a lot of dancers my age?(i can imagine some would think twice about it, even if it was legal, simply from the money standpoint)

Also, i would have to buy my own wardrobe, so i need to go price that out... I haven't even been buying Ramen in several weeks, so thatalso is a bit of a stretch... 2-3 outfits is i'm sure minimum, but is it better to have more? Does management or customers not like to see you in the same outfit frequently?

Thanks for any help, in advance!!!

A search for "Portland minors" will bring up a ton of threads:

    http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sho...d.php?p=642472

Yes, you can work here, but you will be subject to more regulations in an alcohol bar than in a juice bar. See above suggested search for more on that.

    and lots more . . .

No, a car isn't a necessity -- the city's so small that cabs can't get too expensive, there's always a club near you, and much of the city is safe enough to take public transportation to and from. Common sense and being a good judge of your surroundings is the necessity for staying safe, of course.

You can get stuff to wear way cheap (hell, I have a bag of stuff I need to give away and I am hereby offering it to you and other broke Portland newbies) and 2-3 outfits will start you off fine.

Let's get you strippin' so you can buy some noodles.

I am editing the title of your thread to include Portland so others will be more inclined to look at it.

Thank you so much! So a juice bar would probably be better?(off to look at linked threads as soon as reply is posted!)

I have pretty good instincts, and usually err on the side of safety... so so long as its reasonable to think that that would be enough, that sounds encouraging..

I imagine you DO collect a lot of stuff after a bit... Are you from Portland?

Well, you'll see that juice bars have much higher contact than alcohol ones, but that's all relative to Portland itself which is a very clean city in which to dance. But they do offer you the advantage of being able to circulate among the customers rather than being limited to selling directly from the stage. You might also want to look into the stage-heavy clubs where you're up a lot as that's another way for minors to maximize income.

I am not from here but have very happily lived here for a year and a half. This is my favorite city in the whole damn country.

I know what you mean... I moved here recently, and its the only place i've lived that i can genuinely see myself staying in!

What do you mean by stage heavy anyways? I'm a pretty strong dancer(have a lot of dance training in various different styles, and have always been great at improvising/social/sexy dancing..) Thats somethingthat might show me off a bit better...

by stage-heavy I mean a lot of time on stage, and presumably more stage tips, so you're not as dependent on selling table dances for your income.

Um, I'm 38-27-38, so maybe not much, but I know a certain SW member who's close to your size who I bet could help you out.

Really? Thank you so much for all your help

Which clubs would you consider stage heavy? I looked through those threads and found names of some, but no one commented on that...

You'll make a lot more moeny working in a place that serves alcohol, which isn't impossible when you're 19 in Portland, though a little difficult. It's legal to have under 21 dancers in P-town, but you'll be restricted, no hanging out around the bar in between dances. Basically, you can be on stage, in the dressing room, or in a small special area you can sit at out on the floor, usually a couch, so people can approach you adn ask for a dance. problem is, a lot of clubs won't hire girls under 21. Most clubs in Portland don't have a stage fee, so start at one of those.

No, you don't need a car. Cabs are plentiful and cheap. I would never walk home from the club after dark, though.

The best place to buy shoes is Metro. You can get a pretty basic pair of white or black pleasers for about $30.

Cheap clothes at: Gen-X, also there is a place called Butterfly's that is closing, everything is cheap until APRIL 27th. They are at 5040 SE Milwaukie Blvd. (south of Powell).
I know PLENTY of underage dancers who do pretty well at alcohol clubs. You just have to learn to sell dances from the stage. Good luck!

Hello needtodance. I run a woman-friendly juice bar in downtown Portland called Carnaval. At your age you can mix and mingle freely with the crowd. We do welcome new-comers. The club is safe(monitored via camera), woman-owned, and lucrative. Most of my performers are between 18-20. Our customer base is businessmen getting off work since we are downtown, out-of-towners(since we are located close to many downtown hotels) and people out partying(since we are located in the midst of many nightclubs) We also provide transportation home for the dancers who do not have vehicles(after public transportation has shut down) Feel free to pm me for further details.

^^^ OC makes a good point, that at the juice bars you can hustle and be on the floor even when under 21 -- but OC, would you care to elaborate about the differences in contact levels at juice bars and alcohol-serving ones? I haven't been to any juice bars and can't make a call on anything other than hearsay.

by the way, a customer at Mary's yesterday was telling me how hot the female owner of Carnaval was.

Hi Susan! Juice bars in Oregon have a very nasty reputation. For whatever reason some of them are bordering on prostitution and some of them are alleged brothels. I wont name any names however. What is legal in a juice bar is not that far off from a 21 and over club in many aspects. Performers cannot grind in a patron's crotch area or touch the crouch area with any part of their body. Performers can touch the customers everywhere else and that does make for a very sensual dance. Masterbation shows are legal as well. In this performance the patron can masterbate while the performer dances. Masterbation shows are not done at any 21 and over clubs. This performance is legal and lucrative.
I have heard a rumur that the olcc does not fine club's any longer for the performer's violations. I do not know if this is true but I have hired a few girls from a 21 and over nameless club or two that had to be re-trained not to grind on customers laps. For whatever reason, these clubs are not getting in trouble even though a lap dance is considered prostitution under oregon laws. I have heard that the vice unit in Portland is tiny and they are more concerned with curbing pimps and escort services. Its always tough when most of the people follow the rules and some don't. Its also only a matter of time before one of the clubs gets in trouble.
Every few years, Oregonians get to vote on zoning laws for adult businesses. I feel that perhaps there may be a big raid in the future that may effect the opinions of the voters who will be convinced that prostitution related businesses may be located next to their schools, churches, and homes then zoning laws would prevent any new businesses within whatever distance is chosen(but thats just my opinion) Feel free to pm me if you like.

Thank you so much for the candid information. I think it's very helpful, especially for the minors around here considering their options.

Mixed bag, I guess... I auditioned at sassy's... Didn't do as well as i know i could, with practice at the pole, and a better sense of the space... Still, i liked it there. The lady said she'd talk to the person who does scheduling, and see if they had anything open. So i don't know if i did well or not.

Didn't even get to audition at Exotica... Went, was all dressed, waited... there was confusion about me being a minor-they forgot to put me in the minor dressing room, so it was very weird... THen they claimed there was a problem with my legitimate out of state ID... They claimed that because not "high quality" enough, they wouldn't accept it. I could understand that if it WAS faked, but it WASNT... how is it my fault that the secretary of state in my home state is a cheapass? So i couldn't even audition, after all that waiting... And after them poring over ALL of my voting registration, student ID's, credit cards, EVERYTHING that says i was legit! Very depressing. Insult onto injury, I can't even change and get an Oregon ID becuase Oregon was screwing me on health insurance-either my parents pay too much for insurance and to call me a student, and say my residence is in another state, or I'm once AGAIN without health insurance, with a serious genetic disease making school difficult, as well as intense manual labor, massive insomnia and stomach problems, and such severe hand problems that a 9-5 is practically out of the question, even if they WOULD hire me-which they won't.

I DID enjoy sassy's though, and dancing was fun, so thats a good sign anyways... And I enjoyed all of the dancers I met and talked to.

One of the girls at exotica, really thought i should go to Dolphin 2 so i guess thats on my next round of clubs to check out... But really... What should i make of the sassy's audition?

That sucks that you went to all that trouble and then couldn't get an audition. I guess they're really covering their asses at Exotica, for good reason though - a 16 year old got busted not too long ago for dancing with a fake ID. And they've had more problems since, with minors getting caught drinking, so since they obviously can't manage them well, they tightened up on the hiring and why they dug through all of your stuff and then said no makes no sense either.

Let us know what happens with Sassy's. That place has a good rep. (at least with custy's! ) so it would be a great place to work!

    BTW, you looked great today!

thanks... I feel a bit better now, still sort of useless though... It didn't make sense since i had numerous photo ID, as well as other "secondary" without photo, like my voter registration, and my bank cards... can't get any of that underage... I know you can't be too careful, but its still somewhat bothersome. I just wish I could have at least danced... I have a feeling this is something that the more you do it, the more confidence you get, and i want to do better at my other auditions...

BTW... were you wearing the skirt thats in your avatar? It was adorable! I love lacy things!

I am sort of hoping that Sassy's can get me in though, I did like it there, and its even pretty close! Only a five dollar cab back home, should the bus be shut down! I guess i'm still not sure what protocol is, following an audition, to know if they ARE going to try to schedule me, or if that was the "you'll be hearing from us" that all of my OTHER job interviews gave....ick ick ick!

    Hoorah for the waiting game!

Unfortunately a lot of stuff doesn't make sense in this industry. It's not run by the smartest folks.

I think you should audition at another place, just to do it, and in case Sassy's doesn't work out. I have no idea how they hire there - maybe someone else can speak up about that. But it seems like if they didn't want you, they'd just tell you there and not bother to say they'd talk to the scheduler.

Ya, I was wearing that cheap skirt. I had wardrobe malfunction as the day went on... it was funny, not clothes falling apart or anything, but just making some weird choices - I seem to do that from time to time. But it was funny, I ended up in these black ruffle short things, my black lace bra and these nutty black stockings with white lace at the top, and a chocker - I looked like a trashy french maid. Whatever. It never seems to matter what I wear anyway.

well, the black stuff with the white lace is a different sort of texture contrast... I'd think it would add visual interest, and also attract a bit more attention, since its not the whole carefully matched up/managed image. Make you look twice anyways...Or I could just be overthinking the whole thing...
