Default Did i go too far?

I'll keep this short.... So the other night I was talking to a customer, he was in his 70's and seemed pretty cool. He asked me what my dad did for a living, and i told him where he worked. It turns out he worked there, too, but was retired now. So then he asked what my dad's name was, and i told him. He actually knew my dad, and my dad helped him with some construction work on his house! I thought it was cool, you know, the whole small world thing. My dad is retired, too, btw.

Anyway, i told my husband and he thought i went too far, bringing not only my real personal life into work, but telling my fathers name, and then is worried that the customer might call my dad and talk or joke with him about it and upset my dad (who, btw, isn't thrilled that I am dancing )

    What do you think?

Well, I don't think it's a great idea to give out personal info .. even if he's old and sweet, it's just dangerous IMHO.
As far as your dad hearing from ppl that you're still dancing or whatever, that's a judgement call ..
But personal safety should be your number one concern.

Yeah....WAY too easy for someone to find out your address and show up on your doorstep. No matter how harmless they seem...you never know.

Dont ever give out personal info..real name, phone number, address, family members names, where you go to school or where you work as a day job.

    It isnt worth it.

Yeah, you should definitely have kept it to yourself.

    Dad's name to customer- never!

I doubt he'll call your dad to joke about getting a lapdance from his daughter, unless he's a total jerk.

He might not call up your dad to talk about it, but I can guarantee you he'll spread the word among all your dad's former coworkers. "Hey, remember Bob? He worked in X department and retired a little while ago? Yeah, you'll never believe this but I ran into his daughter dancing in a titty bar last weekend. Guess Bob shoulda spent a little less time at work and more time at home, huh? Ha ha!" That kind of gossip is gonna spread like wildfire. Eventually your dad will hear about it and he won't be thrilled.

Yes, that could very well happen. ^ But the nice 70-something man might not tell anyone, either. That's out of your hands now, and you shouldn't beat yourself up or anything. All you can do is learn from this. Don't tell anyone any personal information at all.

It's not only the safety issue...but it kind of ruins the fantasy...although the customer knows your someones daughter, that thought doesn't really cross his mind...but now it does. Now he knows your someones daughter. Not only that, btu someone he knows daughter. Customers don't really want to think about that. They just want you to be some sexy stripper.

And how long have you been dancing? Your husband is absolutely right on this issue. You shouldn't be discussing anyones business at work. Not yours, your fathers, whoever.

Hun be careful with info like that. Maybe u should make up a fake persona about yourself and only give out fake info - if u feel u need to tell them info to build rapport with them.

I don't give out any information in regards to my family. I am up-front about that.. I will just come out and say "Look, I don't know you and that is rather personal don't you think? How about you ask me a question about me? Depending on the question I'll answer it as I'm usually an open book"

I keep my family OUT of the strip club and try to keep the conversation focused on the person him/her/themselves and if that isn't possible then me... never anyone else.

Well I'm new to the biz, but I'd definitely say, from a common sense standpoint...that your actions were very unsafe. Even if the guy is 90 and in a wheelchair, you just never know nowadays.

    Be safe next time.

It's probably not a big deal this once, but... yeah, bad idea.

How do you know he was telling the truth? You volunteered all of the information and he agreed with it or told you something you'd find interesting about it after the fact. Not saying this is what happened in this case, but that is the number one way people get information out of other people and you don't even know they did it.
