    Default Etta James

I have always loved her stuff, but all of the ones I have are on vinyl. Yesterday at Best Buy they had a remastered version of "At Last" on cd in the "$7.99 or 2 for $12" bin, so I picked it up. The sound quality is AMAZING, and if you're into her at all I highly recommend picking it up. I was jamming it on the way to the store this morning with my windows down, and I got some funny looks. Seriously though, I'm amazed by how great it sounds. :::humming "Stormy Weather":::

    Thumbs up Re: Etta James

Excellent MrChristopher! Personally, my taste in musical genres displays a broad palette; I love Etta, but my #1 blues fave:

    Nina Simone .

I once went on a search for a Nina Simone CD years ago and although that search was unsuccessful, I ended up picking up Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child" on CD for about $12.00 (<- People have absolutely no appreciation for the classics, from which we reap all of the benefits ).

10 tracks on the CD - which is pretty good for an analog transfer. Vinyls, especially the ancient ones, can have only about 2 songs on each side. Despite the CD being transferred from analog, it still retains an excellent sound quality, save for the occassional "scratch" sound, which I personally appreciate.

Seems as if the singers' energy is belting out so not to be forgotten and left in the past while we move full steam ahead...

    So nostalgic.

Good post MrChristopher; I have never known anyone who actually liked vintage blues enough to buy a CD, other than me .

Y'all reminded me to play "Little Girl Blue" by Nina Simone this morning.

I am madly in love with Amy Winehouse too, but it's too bad she seems to want to live out the Billie Holiday-style lifestyle...The music biz is so short on real talent these days.

Billie Holiday is my favorite old school singer, but what a terrible life she lived, it is true.

    ^^^Mine too, without a doubt.

A fan would probably know, but just in case: Etta James did a funky-ass cover of "You can leave your hat on" in the 70s and while I personally feel that the Joe Cocker and Tom Jones versions of this song are against everything that is good and right with the world, hers is mmm, mmm, mmm!

Hmm I love Etta so damn much...one of her tapes was the first I ever owned..B.B. and Nina being my 2nd and 3rd ones(yeah i was about 7 but my mom has fantastic taste) I remember getting to introduce the Lady J blues hour for our local station cause the DJ thought it was cute that I was so young(prolly 6 or 7) and loved the blues.
