    Default Big thank you Melonie

I was never one to do my taxes. I was not into Turbo Tax either. I paid a small fortune for my accountant for years.

I bought Turbo Tax and followed it through with ease.

Well it worked. I file quartly.

Melonie has helped with advice when i asked her.

    Thanks melonie. I DID IT!!!!!!

^^^ c'mon, guys. Taxes aren't all that mysterious ... they're mostly just tedious, but do require you to be fairly knowledgable about how to list your income and deductions properly. Tax prep programs like TurboTax relieve the vast majority of the tedious accounting tasks, and also provide the technical knowledge of how to enter income and deduction data by the program's 'expert system' simply asking you the right questions in the right order !

This is not to say that a good accountant and/or financial planner can't be of great value to dancers. What the accountant and/or financial planner are able to deal with are tax planning, investment strategies, business structure 'organization' and a host of higher level stuff that is way beyond the scope of tax prep programs. However, if you already have a fairly good handle on the higher level stuff, then tax prep programs can arguably prepare a tax return just as well as any human at a much lower cost.

Yep, I'd be up a creek without Melonie's advice posted here...I'm also glad she's proof that women in the sex business can succeed beyond anyone's expectations.

^^^ I like to think of my efforts as being in 'show business'. Had I been comfortable with the 'sex business', I'd be living in my own villa on Ibiza right now, and deciding which part of the med to sail my private yacht to next !

Yes, but you have to purchase the most expensive one (for home businesses) if you are an independent contractor, and it also charges you to file for state (if applicable). Still, it saves you time and money searching for a good accountant and it's very easy.

If you haven't filed your own taxes before as an IC, then taxes can definitely be mysterious whether or not it's common sense. I would never have known about filing quarterly or what deductions I could take if it weren't for the Dollar Den.

Ha! quite right Mel. If I'd been truly 'successful' I'd be living in Ibiza too ... sigh ...

Oh I have been and been and been. It is the permanent bit that eludes me. Shame!!

More likely to find us both in Malta in the near future I think. That will be a bad day. You and I will be plotting global financial domination!!!

    Best for the weekend.

Actually, I'll be plotting global financial invisibility LOL.

And you know as well as I that if it weren't for taxes we'd both be there already !

Actually you and I can count ourselves lucky that we've both had opportunities to 'get close' to a worry-free retirement. As discussed in an article I just posted in another thread, younger people probably won't get the same opportunity.

Agreed that Malta is looking better and better relative to the South American alternatives ... there's just too much potential for financial / social / political instability south of the border these days.

Hey, I'm nowhere near retirement, am way too young and too poor.

But, I have a number of deals in the pipeline which will take me out of finance and use my marketing skills. Should any one of the six pan out, I'll be 'moving' to M in the near future to reduce the tax liability dramatically. It means that I'll have an empty holiday home there for 'tax purposes'. I doubt I'll be there much myself.

You will be more than welcome to stay ... will let you know should it happen.

Too young indeed! Your profile claims you were born in 1999.

Just being a smartass...good luck with your plans. I wish I had that kind of future on the horizon!
