    Default phone lines

    Hi girls!
Just curious if any of you ladies have a phone line with an 800 # and what the best ones are. I don't know much about them, but I would like to get a 1-800 number. What are some good phone companies, and what do I need to get a line? Also is it only land lines or do cell phones have them as well?

Lastly, do you guys feel that a 1-800 number is better than a non 800 # for private dancing?

If you are independent, a local number is best. If you get an 800# it looks like an agency, and the customer who is looking for "real" photos of his dancer will be more wary of that kind of number.

Besides, if he is from out of town, how would you be able to do the show anyway? Or...
Of you are scheduling shows in advance with businessmen from out of town, if they don't want to spend the small amount on long distance, why would you want him as a customer?

    Best thread ever! Read me

I got this voicemail service back in maybe August and I still use it. Now it has all these cool new features too. For example, if the guy calls and leaves a VM, I get a text telling me who called. Then I listen to the vm. Also, now they have when you get a VM you can push 2 and it will call the person BUT it will bring up your free private number instead of your real cell phone.

    It's AWESOME!!!

Plus, you can pick any area code you want.

Isn't that cool! I almost went with that i think. It had a feature that let me have different ring tones as well. It was for my regular customers and phone work off any company. When i signed to work with the LDC, it gave me different rings. Ok...something like that....wish i could remember how it worked.

But i use my cell now.

    cinnamonkisses- Thanks for the link.
I did a search and it did look interesting, however I am interested in an 800 number and learning if anyone has ever used one.
I have not done private dancing before, and would like to start. I feel an 800 number would be good for anywhere in the U.S. as I sometimes travel. Also with the link the phone line goes to voicemail, and I would like a line that someone can actually answer.

The way everyone uses cellphones these days, and since most cell calling plans include free national long distance, there's really no need for an 800# for private dancing. The call will be free for the customer on his cell anyway - AND if he calls your 800# he'll be charged minutes on his phone regardless. So basically, for this particular purpose, I don't see the need for an 800#, unless you just want it to look cool / professional, or some other purpose I'm not thinking of.

But to answer your question, you can get an 800# from AT&T for something like $10/mo PLUS incoming call charges. You can make it ring on any phone you want, just give them the number when you set it up. Keep in mind, if you use an 800# that rings to your cell, you'll be paying for those calls in TWO ways: 800# charges plus using your cell minutes. That cost can add up...

Or you can just get a cheap pay-as-you-go cell from any company and be completely anonymous. I like this idea best

An 800# would be great as I could use this anywhere and advertise for myself and other girlfriends without a fixed area code . I could care less about looking cool
If I am in the midwest w/ 2 other girlfriends looking to work and have a girlfriend in AZ and another in CA, we can all use the same phone line.

This just seemed like a good place to ask what the best companies were.

Ok I see your point. I wasn't trying to be an ass with my previous comments, just ya know, some people like to get certain things for appearance's sake.

I would try AT&T and whatever companies are in your local area where you get your mail. AT&T isn't going anywhere, so you could feel pretty 'safe' with them. But there are plenty of local companies out there that are good too. Shop around for the best deals, and ask people in your community which company they use and how they like the service. If a company has a rep for shitty service, don't use them.

I had an 800# with AT&T for a while and was happy with it - I liked that I could have the calls directed to any number I wanted, whether a cell or a home phone, and I could change it if I wanted just by calling them up and asking.

Just keep in mind that an 800# is usually a "virtual" number that doesn't necessarily come with its own phone line, just gets forwarded to a regular phone number of your choice. At least that's how it was when I had one.

I still think that customers would think they are talking to an agency instead of the girl if they get this 800#.

    I agree.
I have a second cheapo cell phone added on to my plan for just $10 bucks a month. That number is the one I give to customers. I have never seen the need for an 800 #.
