    Money Before Fun...Am I Wrong?

Sometimes I wonder why more than a few of my friends complain about my lack of social time. I'm 21 I have a boyfriend, 2 jobs and school. I used to love to hit the club when I was living of my folks money... now I'm serious about my future. I can't understand why my friends feel I should put the club, the movies, the mall ect over my future or why they put it above theirs. Right now success to me heavily relies on my income/ability to save money. I'm not saying I don't want to spend time with my friends. I'm just saying I'm tired of wasting money on some financially established persons dream/business. How can I save to start my own business if i'm constantly putting money into BS.

Like this week my friends want to go to Club "----" Thursday and The "----" AGAIN this Friday

    Club "---"
    0-parking
    20-entry
    36- $12 per drink x the 3 I need to feel relaxed.
12- denny's cuz "we" are hungry
20- gas both ways- I drive 90% of the time and the shit is far
    -----
    $88

    The "----"
    10-parking
    20-entry
    36- $12 per drink x the 3 I need to feel relaxed.
12- denny's cuz "we" are hungry
10- gas both ways- I drive 90% of the time it not as far
    ------
    $88-

So I should just spent $176 to dance for 6 hours total cuz "we" are always running late.
That would be a minimum of 706 a month to club!!!! I know plenty of people who do this every week and they wonder why they are always broke.

Thats just stupid to me for some reason.

Sorry for the rant I just had to get it out.

Does anybody else have this issue????????? Or am I just weird???

^^^ Right there with you. I hardly ever see my friends because Hollywood is all about "going out." You go to dinner, or drinks, or movies, or clubbing, or more drinks... or you don't see your friends. Last night K's best friend came over and we watched a movie and I made chili, and it was fucking HEAVEN! People NEVER do that around here. I miss back in Memphis when my friends would just pop in and out of my house whenever and we'd play board games and fart around at home for free.

I'm with you, you can't begin to imagine how much a night out in London costs
I am so focused on school and saving for my move to California that I can't justify throwing the money away on another unsatisfying night out in London.

I tried to have game night at my house FREE food FREE music I had my bfs Wii and my Playstation set up on two tv's FREE drinks and most of my friends didn't even show up(his boys did). I think free is a bad word in LA or something. These are the same buddys that go to gameworks and spend countless dollars on video games and drinks. So i thought it would be fun... it was so it's their loss. Well yekhefah I want to move to the country too and just relax.

I agree, I'm considered the 'boring' one out of my friends, in fact, they don't even bother to invite me to parties anymore because apparently I don't 'party' enough. Sorry, but I have better things to spend my money than getting shitty drunk and letting guys grope me for free. I dance plenty at work. So, no, you aren't the only one, I'd much rather sit home than spend money on stupid stuff. (Dinner on the other hand, is something I ALWAYS splurge on, I LOVE food)

Totally. Nobody ever comes to our house because there's no parking (we live in the touristy part of Hollywood, right off the Walk of Fame). There is a $4 pay lot about a block away, but people whine and hedge and don't want to park there. But they'll go to a bar and pay $10 valet or walk five blocks from a parking space on the street if it's a bar with $7 drinks. I do miss people just popping in and out of my house.

I partied from about 1985 through till 2002, lol. Ive had so much fun and Im a real people person over-all and have tons of friends all over the place so I need to go out really! I never blew heaps of money at a time going out though as a general rule of thumb. No regrets!

The last few years Ive been a bit anti-social though. Going out suddenly seems to cost alot more for some reason, plus alot of my friends are doing the "were too old to go out now' thing and going out isnt as good as it used to be either locally due to alot of changes.
Now Im happy to stay in (look at me its Friday night Saturday morning now and Im sitting home, lol!)

I think its great SBE that you have a goal youre working towards and that you seem happy to do what it takes! Once in a while you could treat yourself to a night out though - its important to let your hair down sometimes, but I totally get where youre coming from! Not everyones put on this earth to be a party animal either, so just enjoy whatever it is that you like (-:

But u know what, sometimes I look b ack, and Im like ok Ive been dancing for 3 years, and cant even remember a bit of fun I had last summer...

If my friends wanted to go to places with $20 entry fees and I had to drive all the time, I wouldn't want to go out either!
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

Yea last summer I spent 400-500 a month or more on going out. That includes gas, parking, drinks (alot of those), food after, hotels, etc. I didnt save a dime last summer because of it...and I was wondering why I couldnt save anything.

Since then I just cut back on the alcohol and the times per month I go out. I hardly go out and blow that kinda cash unless I havent been out in a long time or its a special event. Since then as well Ive had the chance to save alot of the party money. I prefer free or cheap or a nice dinner instead.

That's been totally me for the past few years. I'll take the couch and my girlfriends any day over drinks at any bar. I've been around enough drunks and loud music at work that my time is for quieter, less night lifey activities...like going to bed with Boyfriend at 10pm on a Saturday!!

I love going out and believe you only live once. But I rarely spend money when I go out, or try to limit what I spend. Promoters can get you in free and guys will buy you drinks. Ultimately, it's your happiness that matters, but don't let your youth pass you by without any memories of crazy club nights with your girlfriends! Ya gotta have some fun!

London sounds expensive... California is nice but expensive as well... I have never been to London so I couldn't compare the two. all i can say is bring your shades.

I read through the posts really fast ........ but I think when you WORK in a club , going out becomes much less of a priority . You want to relax with quiet and your friends who have had 9-5 boring / quiet all week want to be where there's, music, smoke , attention, ect. By working in a club, you just get your fill of those previously mentioned things . ~ C

this is key for me too. I'm always in "hustle" mode. I'm nice about it, but shit I'm a stripper at heart I suppose, lol. If its free, then its me! I'm a drink hustling expert too.

Still, when I do actually "go out" I'm in there wondering how much I could be making at work, and looking a dumb girls acting like strippers for free

I feel like telling them they should be somewhere getting paid for all that free action!

My daughter is like the OP. She goes to school all day, works 5 days a week and has a BF.

She'd rather go to a quiet dinner spot than a club. Oh she'll go to an occasional concert or open mike night (plays guitar and sings as a hobby), but she's way too focused on watching her bank acct. grow to spend on clubbing.

I think it's great that there are young people out there that have their priorities straight.

    Kudos!!
