    Default The End of Childhood

About a month ago I asked my son (who is 12 1/2) if he wanted me to continue to "tuck him in" at night. I simply wanted to make sure he didn't assume he had to allow me to.....but I knew the end was coming soon. He said he wanted me to continue. Last night I asked him again - "Want me to come up and say good night?" He said "Nah - I'm okay." It's quite the rite of passage....and I'll always remember last night.... the day he stopped being a little boy. Sigh.

Ahhh, yes I relate. My son stopped at about that age too. He always says goodnight though and announces when hes going to get ready for bed and when hes going to go to bed which is sort of cute.
Its fun watching them grow up but it just goes way to fast!!!

I used to always run to the living room to have my parents check my teeth after I brushed them when I was little. I remember VERY distinctly the moment when I went straight to my bedroom after brushing them instead of out to see them. I felt the significance of it while I was doing it. But at that moment, I realised that I could tell all by myself if my teeth were clean. Very sentimental.
Mojo, I think you have many of these moments to come. But congrats on your boy.

Awww! I wish I could remember a moment like that, but nope, my parents were divorced and I had quite a few baby sitters, not enough routine things like that. Very cute story tho, I want to do consistent things like that when I'm a parent.

I remember mine... my parents love to do the Santa Claus thing. After the kids are asleep (which is pretty late because they go to Midnight Mass), they open some wine or beer and stay up for hours setting up the Santa gifts. Gifts from Santa aren't wrapped; they're set out like a department store window display, and everything that requires assembly is assembled the night before while they set stuff up. So in the morning, the kids wake up to this huge amazing display and they can jump in and play with everything as they find it.

My childhood was officially over the year that I was 16 and I stayed up to help my parents set up my brothers' Santa displays. I remember thinking, "Wow, I'm pretty near grown now that I'm doing this," and they seemed to feel the same way too. I had some wine with them and we all stayed up until after 3 a.m. assembling a little train set and some other stuff (my brothers are 12-15 years younger than me). They treated me a lot more like an adult after that Christmas.

Mojo has a boy on the verge of teenagerdom? I expect many more stories of the death of childhood and the beginning of hormone laced antics.
