Or will they? I guess we will see soon!
If Segolene Royal wins a runoff on May 6, she will be France's first woman president.

It is what it is, not what you want it to become, that's important -- at least for now. Today, remember that things worth having are worth waiting for!

Well considering Maggie Thatcher, Indira Gandhi, Golda Meir etc. I'm having a bit of trouble trying to figure out what 'France did before we did'. Voting in a Socialist government ?
I think she's referring to the USA, not Britain, India, or Israel.

I don't care that she was born with a vagina, the part about being a Socialist wouldn't get my vote. Kinda like Hillary here. However it is France and for the sake of those cheese eating surrender monkeys; I hope she wins.Islam couldn't have happened to a better Euro nation.
.........
mmhmmmm.

I say Ivanka Trump for President. She would atleast know what a budget is, and how to balance one. course we have to wait for her to reach the minimum age. France. Ahahahahahahahahaha.

Hey us too, with our 20second PM Kim Campbell...and the German one now, whose name escapes me...
but Indira Ghandi= hate. Just a vile, awful decision-maker. You know her gov't used to send out vans to give the poor classes vasectomies, en masse? As a method of 'population control'? Gross.
It's not all about "woman on top at all costs", but I think it's important for minorities to set good examples for the future. Celui-ca la chose le plus important pour maintenant. Vive les femmes, mais pas l'exception j'ai dit...et elle a mort pour ses decisions pauvre aussi.

ROTFL at the first paragraph.
Re the second paragraph: Completely agreed. We might not have the freedoms we have here today if not for French Aid during the Revolutionary War. Repeat after me France Haters: General Lafayette
Or would you rather still be singing "God Save The Queen" instead of "The Star Spangled Banner"?
Seriously, mocking the French people and country like that is a brand of racism in and of itself.
And nothing's wrong with Islam.![]()

Again the key point for me is that this latest crop of female leaders i.e. Segolene Royal, Angela Merkel etc. are Socialists, whereas the previous crop were conservatives.

Atheist - So whatever the fundies do (of any stripe) pisses me off.
That the French Navy did blockade work? That the French made it an international war after 1778. That the Musket carried most by Colonial forces was the 1763 Charleville a french piece. . That the majority of cannon were of French manufacture. That it was the French Navy and not the American that blockaded Charleston denying resupply to Lord Corwallis. The defeat of the British Navy (for the first time!) was by the French navy at the Battle of Chesapeake and helped further secure the coasts and deny tresupply to Royal forces.
Yeah that history.
I am refering to everything French; 20th Century and after.

Interesting...I know of at least one conservative who has put forth the hypothesis that liberals resort to name-calling of conservatives when incapable of debating a topic only upon the merits/deficiencies of that topic. Although in the case of this thread, there are only two examples of name-calling from both sides of the aisle. But that's neither here nor there, with both examples being purely anecdotal.
More interesting to me is why nobody has brought up the fact some of the Founding Fathers of the U.S. were Anglophiles, while others were Francophiles. I read an interesting debate once on another mb, said debate being would the U.S. have developed differently if Hamilton had survived the duel instead of Burr? And also if Hamilton had gone on to become one of the early presidents. Unfortunately, I didn't bookmark the site. I'll have to see if I can find it again.
