    Default eating during the day

    I've seen a few threads dealing with eating at night, during or after work. but my problem seems to be eating during the day.
    When i am at uni i don't usually have time for a lunch break until about 3pm. And the way things are going at the moment i need to grab something quick before heading up to the lab to work on assignments.
    The stupid thing is, the canteen in my building closes at 3pm! and the alternative is to buy some sweets out of the machine and a can of diet coke.
    I've done this every day for the past 2 weeks and it's just not a healthy way to eat.
    My question is what can i make or buy that i can eat quickly, which is healthy, during the day. When i get the chance i get myself a sandwich but they aren't all that great themselves. i'm a vegetarian so are there any "good" sandwich fillings to choose?
    The way i'm going just now is i wake up and rush out the door without breakfast as i don't have time.Eat some chocolate for lunch then have a pasta dish at home for my dinner. After about 7 pm i am starving and eat so much crap So i'm guessing my lunch choice will need to help prevent that sudden hunger at night.

    What about fruit?You could put a apple,pear or bananna in your purse maybe you could make your own type of mix like pretzels cashewss peanuts almonds some dark chocolate whatever kind of cereal coconut flakes dried cranberries or aproicots whatever you like.That kind of stuff you can just keep in your purse for when your hungry instead of going to the machine and getting junk.

    Yep, keep fruit and string cheese in your purse, and a bottle of water. You can refill the water bottle throughout the day, and just stick fruit and string cheese in your purse in the morning before you leave. You can also make sandwiches the night before to bring with you - try whole wheat bread, a bit of hummus, assorted veggies, and a slice of cheese. Raw spinach, shredded carrots, and bean sprouts are great sandwich toppings and they're really healthy too. This sandwich will keep you full for awhile because it has so much fiber, and the cheese and hummus lend the bit of protein and fat needed to keep you from digesting it too quickly.

    I like those yogurt in a pouch thingies. Very convenient. You'll just have to remember to have them earlier in the day rather than later...

    String cheese, nuts, sunflower seeds, packs of raisins.

    You could pre-peel and slice apples in a ziploc bag (I hate eating apples off it's core personally).

    As for sandwiches, I used to stuff whole wheat pitas with hummus, fresh mozz, tomato, cucumber and sprouts.

    Also, some of the boca burgers aren't bad crumbled into a pita sandwich. I used to cook them on the foreman and make the sandwiches at night so they'd be ready to go in the am.

    i like almond butter and raspberry jam or apricot marmalade on whole wheat...it's a good combination of protein, complex carbs and healty fats, and it stays well during the day

    Thanks for the great ideas! A spinach and hummus sandwich sounds better than ye olde cheese sandwich any day.
    And i got myself some good old porridge for eating at breakfast.
    Think i'll try out almond butter, hadn't heard of it before now.

    Greek salads are great. Feta gives you some protein and if you make it with olive oil, healthy fat. Plus the nutrients in the veggies (well, fruits) in the salad.

    Sometimes I like to have some brie and grapes for lunch as well.

    Maybe a stir fry with some tofu cubes (protein is important too) made the night before or homemade chili with lots of beans. It involves preperation, but if you make big batches one night at a time, it's not so bad.
