Default Do you keep a work journal?

ANd if so, what do you write in it? How do you use the information later to improve your hustle?

Besides recording basic income and mileage stuff I need for taxes, I also write down what I was wearing, whether it worked for me, and some other general impressions of the day. But besides weeding out outfits that don't work for me, I have no idea what I could be doing with that information.

Sometimes I make daily averages for the week, the clubs, the month, and for the day of the week. Other times I forget and don't write anything down for weeks. It all evens out. LOL

Keeping track of what you wear is a great idea! I keep records for taxes only. I think maybe keeping track of the number of dances you did could be helpful. Also maybe what dances you did on stage that really got the crowd going, that way like the outfits you could weed out the ones that don't work for you. I going to start doing this. Thanks Lily

    I write down

    - exactly what hours I worked (what time I actually got there and left)
    - my take home $$
    - my tip out $$
    - my weekly goal (and then my weekly $$)
    - my daily averages
    - what regulars spent and when

I don't write down outfits or anything. I've never noticed any difference in income based of what I've worn or my makeup or anything.

But I can't imagine not knowing what my averages are for shifts and what my goals are for the day, week, month, year - etc. I have to know if I'm doing well or not.

Good idea Colleen! At the new club I'm working in, I've noticed that what I wear makes a difference in my money.

The only thing I put in my 'journal' was hrs worked, tipouts, how much I brought home, and my goal for the week.

I suppose my "style" is fairly consistent, therefore doesn't get any different reactions.

I would like to write down even more - like if I was in a super bubbly mood, or if I had drinks at work, stuff like that. But, really, there are so many factors, I wonder how much I really have control over.

I also include (along with what's mentioned above) the amount of VIP hours I got, where they were (we have 3 different VIP options at our club, Eroom, VIP room and Penthouse) and I write down who got them for me, either myself, a waitress or floorman and I also write down if I did the promo review that night or not.

^ i used to do that, but it's become too much work to remember what i did when at the end of the night, which is a good sign of my sales skills i guess.

so i write down how much i earned, how many hours i worked, (if those hours vary from normal shift, i write that in too) if any regulars came in and how much they spent, weekly total, monthly total.

Yes, I keep a work journal. Keeping some sort of journal is good business.

There are some outfits that people like more than others, but it's not necessary for me to write that down. What I do keep a journal of is the days worked, hours, amount paid, and the amount earned. It's necessary for me to track my growth or lack thereof.

    I write down..................

Whether I worked a private party or club or both.

If I worked a private party I usually have all the information of that private party entered as well - details of the booking(s) (waitress or show or both? if show, what type of show? if waitress, what type of waitress?) time, contact person and their number if given to me, my cut, tips earnt, agent fee.

If I'm working the club I put in the clubs name, hours, what type of dances and how many of each, stage tips and how many and any short comments about the night plus the total i took home. If I worked in a fee based club, I will put in any fees that were paid. If I work in a commission based club, I just write down my total earnings (not how much i paid in commission to the club).

    I write down:

how much $ I made before house and tip outs, then after house and tip outs....

    (Like, 500 - 100 in fees = 400 )

and that's about it! Oh, and if I buy an outfit at work at write how much that was, too.

I have tried writing it down, but how can you remember all the dances and VIP's you did each night? I could never keep all that striaght. I'd have to run to the dressing room afetr each one and write it down.

Well...the first club I ever worked in, the customer paid the bouncer for the dance, or VIP, and you got paid out at the end of the night(less their cut)
I was always afraid of gettin screwed out of my money, so I would mark it down on the dressing room table in lipstick how many dances or VIP's I got.
Thats about the closest thing to a journal i kept.

I've got an Excel spreadsheet that I organize by month (yes, I'm a nerd ). I put in the date and how much I made, then I have it set to add up at the bottom so I can keep track. At the end of the year I average out and see what my average night was and my average month, and then I start a new tab for the next year. I also make comments if I've left early or called in for any reason, or if there was a specific reason I didn't do well or I'll make notes about an especially good night.

I write down the basics, how much I tipped out (sometimes noting which person also, like which DJ was working), how much I paid in conversion on funny money, etc. I used to do all kinds of figures, like what percentage of my earnings were going to tipouts, which regular spent how much, etc. Now I pretty much know which regulars I should be giving priority to after keeping track of that for a while.

I found it was very helpful because I was wasting too much time with regulars who were actually spending less than I thought they were.

Brilliant! I will definitely be using some of this info.

I'm tracking the outfits thing because it's hard for me to remember which outfits helped me a lot, and which ones got compliments form the girls, but didn't really sell. I'm changing my look form all-out glam to more sexy-fun, so at the moment I don't have any tried-n-true favorite outfits to fall back on. I also work in multiple locations, and I don't want to wear the same dress to the same place every time.

Andygirl, I used to do the excel spreadsheet too, when I was single and work was my life. Now a few scribbles in a notebook are all I can manage.

I write down how much I walked away with, how much I tipped out. I've recently started writing down what I was wearing because a couple outfits that I thought were gorgeous weren't making me money. I also write down how many of each type of dance I do. I guess I have a really good memory - I just sit & think about it for a few minutes when I get home - that ugly fat guy bought 5 dances, that cute younger guy bought 1, then his friend bought 2, the guy with the cool shirt got a half hour, then his friend bought 3 dances, etc.

I like the idea of writing the exact hours - I'm gonna start doing that. I show up late & leave early too often.

I used to keep a detailed journal of what I wore, etc and what I tipped out. Now I just care about how much I walk away with at the end of the night, because that's what matters for taxes at the end of the year anyway. (I prefer to deduct the tipouts and fees up front, otherwise it's redundant.) I write down how many VIPs I sell, and if there were an unusually high or low number of girls working because those factors make a bigger impact IMO than what I wore or the exact number of dances I did.

I always write down what I make every night in a day planner/calendar. This has helped me in a couple of ways: It made me be sure to work at least 15 days a month. The couple of months I went back to to see why I did poorly... I actually did well, but did not work enough days that month.

Another way that keeping track of my earnings has helped me is to know which days of the week I do the best at my club. You really can't rely on asking the other girls which nights or days are the best to work, because everyone's hustling style is different, and they are probably basing their answer on one number alone: what they made specifically last tuesday. If it sucked for her last tuesday, then she'll tell you all tuesdays suck. You really have to work a variety of days if you can at first, and tally it all up and average it out. Enough numbers will always tell you the big picture. It's actually pretty cool. I now coincide my schedule with my top-earning days. (don't forget that not everyone's top earning days will be the same)

MY MONTHLY EARNINGS ACTUALLY WENT WAY UP once I used my averages and found my best days to work. I now will never miss a Saturday or Sunday at my club unless I am dead. Ever.

I have always kept a notebook with the date, day of week etc, and write how much I made that day, what I made last year on that day, and how much of that money was attributed to my "regulars". If I have any work related expenses, I write it on the day as well, outfits makeup etc. I staple a folder in back of notebook to keep my reciepts in. I have kids and claim them at end of year, and doing this helps get a tax return back instead of paying in. They take my social security right out of my return...

I write down how much I took home that night. What event was in town and whether it was event business. But mainly just numbers and events. Then I can look back and see what nights are my best, what events, what time of the month, etc..... I use last year's to go back and see how that event was last year, and also what days were best in a paticular month last year and use the combo to schedule myself.
