Default Cream for Dry Irritated Skin???

    Hey ladies!

My hubby and I live in an area where there is a lot of limestone so our water is loaded with calcium/lime. This means very "hard" water which is murder on both hair and skin!!!

Our skin is very dry and my hubby's itches and irritates him all the time. My skin is doing better than his as I drink tonnes of water and my skin care is doing the job...save for the hands which I have to wash infinite times in the day being a mom.

We are in Alberta Canada and that said I would like to know what products we can try that are available in Canada.

Hubby also cannot seem to tame the dandruff issue.

What would restore the skin and truly moisturize it...not just slick up the surface???

    Any tips here would help...

    Thanks!

I've heard Lush's Dream Cream is an excellent moisturizer that is very soothing. They also make some shampoos specifically for hard water areas. They have a forum and all their products have customer reviews listed on the page.

Try a shower head that filters hard water too. Just an example:

    I agree with TM.

Invest in a water filtration system for your whole house. For shower, washing, and drinking...

I'm in Alberta, too. I know what you mean about our water! All those minerals can realy screw up skin and hair.

Here's what I do---after each shower, while I am still in the shower, I rinse my scalp and hair with distilled water. This will rinse the mineral rich water out of the hair. Your husband may find that this will help his dandruff problem, and could also rinse his face as well to help with his skin. He may also want to switch to all-natural shampoos and conditioners--sodium laurel sulfate is in pretty much all commercial shampoos and can be extremely irritating to people's scalps. It is also very drying to the hair over the long haul.

Also, there is an excellent cream at Planet Organic off of Elbow Drive that contains neem oil and seabuckthorn oil that is for tricky skin---it is called Dermanica Neem Skin Cream and is absolutely excellent--very soothing and moisturizing. About 29 bucks. Worth every penny. Keeps the skin very soft, and calms any irritations.

Thanks so much for the suggestions so far...

I'll see what I can get him to try...you know how stubborn men can be about this kind of thing

There is a LUSH store not far from me so I can try that out first...I've also heard their Bath Bombs are the bomb!

Bath bombs and bubble bars! Their bubble bars are solid bubble bath that you crumble under running water. The thickest, lushest, softest bubbles ever. Like a bath you picture Marilyn Monroe in with a glass of champagne. And you will be so soft when you get out of the tub, not drying at all, like most commercial "soapy" bubble baths. I like to use half a bomb and half a bar together for extra Lush-y goodness. And I didn't even really like baths before I started using Lush!

RED MILE...OMG yes....I'm a rabid FLAMES FAN and thought it was a hoot when the girls/women were flashing the whole damned world back in '04!

That was a hell of a run back then and I JUST got pregnant with my son before that playoff run...good thing because I am the one in the house saying "Not tonight honey...I'm watching the game!"

I was also supposed to meet Cally and another SW-er at Melrose when she danced at the Speakeasy a short time ago...however it didn't work out for us to meet...(I don't live within the city...and I was also just pregnant at the time so the pregger hormones were starting to let me know they were active.)

I would still love to meet some SW-ers but being a mom and one with another baby on the way makes it rough. We also only have one vehicle that my hubby needs for work as he is on call so that limits my travel radius.

LR thanks so much for your input on LUSH!! Knowing you actually USED the product and love it is all the endorsement I need! Maybe I can use some of it to pamper myself as the pregnancy progresses and my back starts feeling the strain of a growing little one!

This is going to sound silly, but apple cider vinegar! Its great for removing chemical or mineral residue... Generally about once a week(i don't have hard water) I use a small amount diluted with water to rinse my hair. When i lived somewhere that had HARD water, i did it more frequently.. but that helped a LOT with my scalp problems, and helps when i have allergic reactions to hairspray...

Those lotions would be good for after tanning too, right?
