Default Sad news at the club

I went into my old club tonight to work for one night and I got some sad news. The DJ, who is a great guy and only 48, had a stroke. G-d, I feel so sad for him. He was my first DJ, I worked with him on my very first night, and he was always very supportive of the newbies and would say cute things on the PA and tip us if we weren't making jack. He would always patiently listen to my complaints, and hustle me for a good tip out when I made good money

I gave him a little monetary present via the other DJ who is friends with him. I wish there was more that I could do. i guess I'll email him and see if I can go visit him when I come back from Costa Rica.

Sorry to hear that and pray for a speedy recovery. One of our bouncers died in the club last fall so I know how hard this can be on you.

He is paralyzed on one side...I mean, yeah that is what happens with a stroke...but how bad I am not sure.

That really sucks, I hope for the best for him.

One of my very first DJs passed away about 5 years ago. It was a really difficult time for many who knew him. He had many health problems, but I don't think anyone thought it was that bad....this just made me think of him.

I'm so sorry, but that's a little weird - I was just watching a vid in one of my classes about strokes... Lots of doctors tell patents that they are paralized and that any movement they regain in the first 6months to a year is all they will ever be capable of.... but it's not true. What happens is the stroke causes some neurons in the brain (in this case where motor functioning is concerned) to die, the neurons around the dead ones are damaged. As the damaged ones heal the parts of the brain around them sorft of take them in...

Think of a basket of eggs whose shells are see through... now say the yellow of one egg dies. The white part is damaged but still alive. as it heals the surrounding eggs use that white.

When you lose the functions in one part of the body you over compensate with the other part. ie using your left hand for everything because you cant use the right. Many people do a little physical therapy but believe that they cant ever use the afflicted side again and dont push themselves. When you push youself and use the affliced arm or whatever you can slowly make the white of the egg come back together detaching itself from the surrounding eggs and form most of what it had been previously. The way they get their functioning back is that they immobilize the good hand and you have to use the bad one. doing small things in small steps, but it works. you have to do lots of little exersize that sort or train the muscles and reteach the brain...

like this one guy who had no use of his arm started out trying to flip dominoes over. in three weeks he was able to (with a good deal of dificulty mind you) hold a chicken patty and bring it halfway to his mouth.... This other guy had been doing these exersizes for two years and he was using a week whacker and all sorts of stuff. The brain is an amazing thing and a lot can be done that many professionals (doctors, physical therapists, etc) don't want to deal with, or dont really know about to help people. I really hope your friend gets better, at least somewhat!!

Thanks so much Roulette. After I talk to him and see what his attitude is like I will pass it on.

No problem!! I was a little concerned it was too long and not well written, but I hope it helped. The movie I watched might be available to rent out of a library or something It's about old age and brain function but a large part was about strokes and what can be done... I believe it was called Secrets of The Aging Brain... It def got some very useful info in it!! And I dont know where it takes place or the name of the facility they filmed in but I can try and find out what it is and if there are any near you... That is if you tell me where you are... PM me if you want to.
