Default photo shoot - how should i do my make-up?

So I'm doing my first pin-upesque photoshoot on Saturday. I wanted to use these pictures to show other photographers so I can get more work. I want them to be as good as possible and I am going to be responsible for my own make-up and hair. The hair part I'm not too worried about but I dont wear make-up often and I only own a bunch of crumby drug store make-up so I should probably buy new stuff. Any suggestions? Its quite a ways away and I have never done this before but should I go to a make-up counter and have them do my face and help me pick out the right shades and stuff? Or go to a make-up artist and have them do it the day of the shoot?

    also!
what brands do you models use and which ones do you think would be the most compatible with a vintage look? do you think i could get away with cheaper drug store make-up? it would really save me some time....

Go to mac and have them do your face up. Buy what they use and take notes on what they use where...

yep!!! you can even call and make an appt. for the day of the shoot.

If you want it to look professional, you need to have a professional do it, in this case.

Why not stick to the classic look...winged black liner a la^^, flawless skin and red lipstick(MAC Russian Red is the shit). Look up bettie page or any old pin up model to see. And the good thing is its hard to mess up. Also dont forget to have strong, clean brows.

Btw Corgan did I ever mention how hot you are! *swoon*

DO NOT use this! It has SPF which will absorb the flash and make your face look pale. If you search thru my friends on myspace for "Shari" (blonde, tan, big boobs), she had a photoshoot with someone who specializes in the pinup look. She has tons of pics up with that classic winged liner/red lips look and great outfits, so you should get tons of ideas!

i was going to go to macy's today and get dermablend, because my skin is already uneven and since last night I have these brand new really bad scrapes on my arms and shoulders that i need to cover. would dermablend be good foundation for a photoshoot? i was going to use it all over my body for some of the lingerie and bathing suit shots as well. while im there i will get some of this awesome red lipstick i am hearing about. thanks!

Dermablend will be super heavy, check out Make Up For Ever at Sephora. Also this is probably a question better asked on specktra.net - you'll get responses from pro makeup artists who have worked on actual photo shoots, check out the industry discussion section.

Whenever I did photoshoots, I always hired a MUA. I dunno, I just felt more "together"

You can look around on craigslist for a MUA or post an ad your self. Look in the beauty, services, and creative sections. Make them email you photos from the portfolio so you can see actual work they've done. It won't be that expensive and worth it since you are already paying for the shoot.

Also those looking to get cut/color but can't really afford to go to a salon, should check out craigslist for salons and stylists offering free cuts or discounted services. I see ads for them all the time!

ETA: I just checked craigslist and the MUA's in my area are charging $45-55 for application, slightly more if they travel to you.

the dermablend I got is thick.
too much for daily use, but it imitates vintage pancake foundation fairly well so i think it will be good for the look i am going for. but does super thick foundation (or a TON of make-up in general) look funny in pictures? im looking at myself on my webcam and my skin looks awesome and flawless, but in the bathroom mirror (with bright natural light) i feel like i look like a clown. on viva van stories website some of the women look caked in make-up and they are super hot, i just hope i can pull off the same.

^^Seriously, you need to ask these questions on a site specifically for that. While we all know lots about makeup, there aren't any responses from a MA that does makeup on photography sets for a living (correct me if I'm wrong). We are just telling you our general knowledge, if you want your pics to be the best they can be, you are better off asking on a site related to the industry or hiring a pro. Your pics will turn out better if you do!

Please, do me, your photographer, yourself, and your pictures a favor and just hire a MUA
