Default Split ends and heat damage on hair

I used to always curl my hair at work VS style and I loved it. I seemed to make good money with it like that. I think it just made me feel strippery in a sexy way and since I live in Indiana, not many girls go with that look. Most just throw on their clothes and go. Very girl-next-door, or they try to go over-the-top but end up looking street corner. One problem though, it was killing my hair. My split ends were horrible. I got my hair cut four weeks after I got it colored and started curling it, and my ends were so bad, we could barely get the brush through them. We had to cut off over 2". I'm trying to grow my hair out, so that doesn't work.

I use good shampoo and heat protectors. Nothing seems to help. Now I'm wearing it straight, which is okay i guess. But I still have horrible ends. My hair is naturally fine and stick straight, so I don't want anything that will weigh it down too much. I'm going to buy the hair pills today. Any ideas on products that may help?

A deep conditioner for colored hair would help alot. I straighten my hair at least 5 days out of the week and dye it honey brown. Having a deep conditioner is the only thing helping me grow my hair out besides getting it cut. I use Biogenol Ultra Deep Masque. Its super heavy but I make sure I wash it out real good then I use another conditioner. Really, any deep conditioner for fine colored hair should work.

Cholesterol....you get it in the ethnic hair section for about $3...best deep conditioner EVER(I have it on my hair as I type!)

Nothing will fix split ends...but conditioning once a week with cholesterol will help it look and feel better. Coat damp hair with it...wrap in saran wrap and a hot towel for about 1/2 an hour

I used to use cholesterol. That was the best cheap stuff I bought. Towel dry your hair then put it in and leave it on for about 15-20 min and wash out once a week.

Can you learn how to set your hair instead of curling it? I'm not sure if that would work for VS style curls, but you never know. When I want to go curly, I pin or rag curl my hair. You can google instructions and you might have to give it a few test runs to see how wavy your hair gets.

I have similarily destroyed hair from so much hairdying, so I've been hennaing it (only good if you want red hair) and using a conditioner I make from banana and honey.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'm gonna try the cholesterol since I've been using a conditioning treatment already. And then maybe see if I can figure out rollers.

It may not hurt to get a stylist show you how to best roll your hair if there's someone good nearby! The only reason I know how is 'cause my Grandma showed me when I was young!

You need to make sure you're getting it trimmed regularly. You don't need to lose inches off of it to improve the health, but if you're neglecting your regular salon visit, that could be making the problem worse.
And I don't know this for a fact, but to me, it seems like using curlers instead of curling irons is less damaging to my hair. But like I said, don't quote me on that.

Cut off the ends and use biosilk silk drops on the ends before you blowdry.
