Default more inconvenient facts about global warming ...

(snip)"The official EU declaration demands changes to animals’ diets, to capture gas emissions and recycle manure.

They warned: “The livestock sector presents the greatest threat to the planet.” The proposal will be looked at by the 27 member states.

The UN says livestock farming generates 18 per cent of greenhouse gases while transport accounts for 14 per cent."(snip)

Perhaps it is beginning to sink in to some people that attempts to date to control greenhouse gases at the expense of 'western' industry, at the expense of hungry people throughout the world etc. might also want to look at the MAJOR source of greenhouse gas emissions, i.e. cow's asses !

I have a small, inconvienient challenge for the "humans cause global warming" crowd. I live in the greater Los Angeles area, and I have not owned a car for over a year now. I also have not taken any plane trips within this one-year period, though I did take one short-haul flight from L.A. to San Jose two years ago (to visit friends).

But therefore, everyone who chants the "humans cause global warming" mantra should easily be able to do the same(i.e., give up their cars for one year and not take any plane flights for that year-hey, if I can do this, anyone can). Starting with one guy in particular whose first name is Al! Because unlike a certain former VP, I'm not asking anyone else to do something I've not already done myself.

Btw, the purchasing of "indulgences" is NOT permissible in this challenge. Especially purchasing said indulgences from a company which you either partially or fully own.

^^^ ah yes but you consume electricity and heat / cool your home - which in California largely comes from the combustion of natural gas ... which is a huge source of greenhouse gases.

Also, to some degree, Californians are responsible for the fact that former California industries which closed up shop due to the state's strict environmental laws have now relocated to Asia, now produce several times as much pollution and greenhouse gases per unit of product that they did in California (thanks to coal fired Chinese power plants and the lack of any meaningful pollution controls), and that a fraction of this pollution is transported right back to California via the trade winds. Thus California arguably receives just as much pollution from these Asian sources as previously generated by their former California operations, while Asia receives 3 times as much in the form of additional pollution generated by their transplanted Asian operations.

Well, re: electricity, where I live there is a city bill every two months for electricity, water and rubbish collection combined. And I'm one of those weirdos who rarely heats or cools his home anyway (a minor bone of contention between my roommate cousin and me, since he uses a lot more of both electricity and gas).

Even so, our electric/water/rubbish bill averages about $125 per month, so I would expect Al Gore to keep his own electric bill under $3,000 per year, which is double what my cousin and I use, so I'm actually giving him a slight advantage on the challenge. And in his case, I believe he has a bill which is only for electricity, although I'm not sure about that.

And I have not voted for a Republican or a Democrat for ten years now, if at all possible, so I'm not one of the Californians who supported either wing of the "Screw Over the Middle Class" One-party system which is currently running things in both California and Washington, D.C.
