    Default Tokyo again, May-June '07

Aside from a very quick visit near the end of last year, I haven't spent "quality time" in Tokyo for over 6 months...so I am aching to get back to its unique vibe and fun. Not too much longer; I leave in just over 3 weeks for a close to 3 week stay.

I will post my impressions of the current Roppongi SC scene almost certainly, and if any SWers will be there in late May and/or early June, I'd be happy to drop in and see you "in the flesh", so to speak. Also, if anyone wants me to check out a particular club or whatever, just let me know.

When were you there and for how long, if you don't mind saying? Dancing in Roppongi?

I'm sure the town misses you too!

My advice is to keep looking for a way to return. That's what I do. I may try to live there after I retire...for at least part of the year.

    have fun!!!
Heh...fun in Tokyo is one of the most certain things in my life.

Well, I'm here in Tokyo now but haven't made it down to Roppongi yet and am still recovering from the jetlag. If any other SW-ite is around, drop me a line.

Well, I have been there and am now back and into the routine of life at home. As always, it was miles and miles past super-great, but this time very little of my time and fun involved SCs, so my report is minimal:

I spent about 3 hours late (11pm-2am or so) at Tantra (http://www.tantra-mensclub.com/) one Tuesday evening; my companions of the evening were a Russian dancer whom I have been seeing when I am in town for the last couple of years and a new, also Russian, young lady who is supposedly the half-sister (same mother) of the former. I had a very nice time...pretty much par for the course. Permissive private dances, nice party atmosphere in the club, friendly staff and excellent service in all respects.

Of more interest to SW readers than the particulars of how I passed that evening, I'm sure, business in the club and on the street looked reasonably good. It was not packed solid, and there were seats available the whole time I was there, but most of the dancers (80% maybe?) were sitting with customers and there was a moderate wait (maybe 20 min) to get a space in the private/VIP dance area. Prices had not changed since my last visit (7000 yen per private dance, 1500 yen for a dancer's drink, etc). There were maybe 25 dancers working. My dancer friend said that business has been "OK, not bad" recently when I asked. I spent about 110,000 yen (just under US$1000) in those 3 hours and was treated like a good, but not amazingly good, customer as far as I could judge. So, I'd guess that that is above average, but not way above average.

I asked my regular and a few other people I know at Tantra if there were still a lot of visa problems, and they all said that they had not heard of any recent busts but that everyone still worried about it. However, I am not sure they would have told me if Tantra itself had been busted the previous night...so take it for whatever you think it is worth.

wicked thanks for the update, tokyo sounds far more promising now then it did 6-12 months ago, even with the yen falling a fair bit to the US and AU currency.

    good to know

Yeah, that is my general impression of the Japanese economy and nightlife scene (i.e., not just based on those few hours in that one SC on that one night). It is surely not as great as it once was, but things seem to be getting better gradually...maybe worth considering again, especially for those who love, or are anxious to try, life in Tokyo.

Oh, one thing I forgot to add to the report above - As I was leaving and the doorman was making small talk while another went to get me a taxi, he said that Tantra is opening, or maybe already has opened (I was drunk and only half listening to him), a new club somewhere nearby. I think that he said that it is called King or Kings or something like that. Aside from being an additional possible place to work, I guess this means that business must not be too bad, from the club's point of view at least, if they are expanding.

    Mermaidz,

I noticed you're Australian, but do you know if the Japanese or other foreigners in the club are more likely not to like American dancers? Americans in general are not so popular in the world right now. I didn't want to deal with any racist (?is that the right word) stuff, so that's why I figured Japan wasn't good for me right now.
