Default I got my first modeling paycheque!!

Okay, so it's only $200, but I was only there for two hours. Of course, he paid me so I own no rights to them and can't post them, but I don't care. They had kinda an embarrassing theme anyway .

Anyway, now that I'm paid model I'm legally considered a professional right? Does that mean when photographers ask to shoot with me, I can ask for money? How will that work? What's a good rate?

I dont know that getting paid makes you a professional. If so then I was a professional model a looooong time ago. I want to know what the embarresing theme was though 0-: (-:

Professional to me is someone who does modelling in a rather full time manner.

I class myself as amateur with experience model because whilst I have been published and what-not over the years I still only do modelling AROUND everything else in my life. I see modelling as a paying hobby as such.

Now someone like Jessica (mermaidnz) I would call professional as she travels for her shoots and has done alot more work than me and does do alot more work.

It's like the difference between someone doing dancing as a paying hobby or as a full time profession.

    Here are my rates:

Mixed session from clothed, lingere, sheer, topless to nude is $80 per hour.

Mixed session from clothed, lingere, sheer and/or topless modelling only $70 per hour. No nude modelling for this price/rate.

Mixed session clothed and lingere only $50 per hour. No toplles, sheer and nude modelling for this price/rate.

    Min. 2 hour booking

Half day (5 hours) rate for a mixed session (clothed, lingere, sheer, topless to nude) is $250.

Full day (8-10 hours) rate for a mixed session (clothed, lingere, sheer, topless - no nude) is $500.

Full day rate rate for a mixed session including nude is $700.

These rates are for photographers who can provide me with a signed release form. All photographs copyright the photographer. I can only use any photos received from these sessions for my portfolio ONLY.

If I wanted copyright, I would do TFP with a release stating that both the photographer and model has copyright of the images.

The photographer can provide a make-up artist otherwise I will do my own make-up.

Oh btw, you can use the photos for your portfolio or any other NON and NOT FOR PROFIT way. You just can't use the photos in a FOR PROFIT manner and/or use them without his watermark inserted onto the images.

Regardless if I am paid for a shoot or not, I always get photos on CD so I can use them for my modelling portfolios and/or other NON PROFIT manner.

ETA: If I have a feeling the photographer is a GWC (guy with camera) or someone that lacks experience himself I will increase my rates as well as make sure both the photographer and myself have a copy of the model release.

lol vee, im not a pro this past year i have barely done any photo work- the whole 'holding off shoots till i get my nose done, to holding off shoots while i heal, to fuck its broken again, holding off on shoots " lol

put your profile up on heaps of modelling sites: ausmodels.com, ozmodels.com.au, onemodelplace.com etc etc maybe do a few tfp shoots so you have some sort of port to post up (if you just done the shoot i think you done, you dont want to be mentioning it in your port!)

ausmodels actually has a place to state your rates. theres tonnes of dodgy fuckers on there tho, so really think thru things before hand

This breakdown is perfect...I might just steal it from you(if you dont mind) for photogs who ask my rates.

GCG, I'm not quite getting the math. If someone wants to do a shoot with you, including nude, at $80/hour, or have the alternative of $700/full day, why wouldn't they just hire you for, say, 7 or 8 hours and pay you $560-640? I'm sure you have your reasons - I'm just more accustomed to seeing a slight discount in an all-day rate compared to an hourly, in any number of professions.

you'll be professional in my view when the tax department takes an interest in what you're earning from modelling. if it's not enough in a year to declare, then you're not there yet.

you seem to have done more than enough shoots to always charge now, especially if you have built up enough of a book from the work you've done.

it's like anything, they will keep trying to get it for free if you let them. pick your fee and stick to it.

    >>I'm paid model I'm legally considered a professional right?

I suppose that, technically, if you get paid, you're a professional. But for the vernacular, I tend to agree with GCG - you're doing it as a primary source of income. You could be a part-time professional, but it's a job, not a happenstance that falls together every now and then.

    >>Does that mean when photographers ask to shoot with me, I can ask for money?

You can always ask. You now have a credit to back up asking for it. It doesn't mean that photographers will line up to pay it - especially if your credits are something that you're not that proud of.

    >>How will that work? What's a good rate?

GCG gave you what her going rates are, and she seems to get work. She could probably ask for more and get more, but then again, she might not be able to find work as often. Price-setting is trial and error. Ask for too much, you drive away the bulk of your market. Ask for too little, and you cheapen your value.

I think it's better to start out by erring on the side of too little. If you ask for too much, you might never find your market, because you drive away potential clients from the start. But if you're on the inexpensive side, then you can raise your rates as you load up on business and find your market easier. It's better to be out working for decent coin rather than waiting by the phone for that dream assignment to come knocking. At least, that's my work ethic.

Oh... my full day rate including nude is discounted by $100.

    $80 per hour x 10 hours = $800.

Plus since it is such a long time to book me for and does include nude... and does include any travelling between locations and so forth... I'm not willing to do it for anything less than $700.

I'm also trying to encourage half day bookings at $250 per session... as then they receive a further discount as two half day bookings including nude is $250 per session... equals $500 in total... equals a further saving of dollars.

There is method in my maddness as such

Oh I'm also willing to do deals like I will pay for the studio hire and the photographer pays for a professional hair stylist and make up artist for the shoot (as well as offering his skills as a photographer) which I did one time and it worked to my advantage (and I can claim the hire of the studio as a business expense).

Or even TFCD where the photographer and myself sign a release that allows us to share the copyright of the images produced thus enabling me to use the images in a for profit manner (being able to use the images on posters, prints and so forth to sell for a profit).

I started getting paid when I realized that I had done enough TFP and had built up a nice portfolio. When photographers contacted me to shoot, I simply stated my rates, and they would accept. Then I realized that if they were willing to accept my rates, I no longer needed to do TFP. Then I increased my rates, and was still getting jobs, in fact, I get more and mroe every month...so my rates continue to increase.
I also contacted every agency in Vegas...but I dont really care for agency work, as mostly it is convention stuff, that dont pay very well at all. I'm interested in print work.
Im going to start focusing on getting tear sheets now, and actually getting real print work.

My rates are $125 per hour
$100 per hour if no nudity.

I require a min. booking of 3 hours, and can negotiate a half day rate, usually $300 for no more than 4 hours. But it depends on the content. A half day of all nudes cost more.

Also, when I'm paid, although Im not owed a copy of the pictures, usually I can get a few emailed to me, with permission to use, sometimes I can get the full cd. I never EXPECT the pictures from a paid job tho. Your paid, thats the compensation, not the pics. TFP the pics are your compensation.

TFP is still a good idea to do on occasion, if yrou not getting copys of the prints, because you alwyas are needing to update and add to your port. Of course, if you do a paid shoot, and see a picture you absolutly LOVE, ask the photog. if you can use it. Generally, they will say yes, as long as its not used for profit, and you give them credit.

    And Congrats!!
