    Default What's in a name?

I wanted to ask all you senior members and feature dancers/pros what you think:

Is it a good idea to adopt a legal alias for this business? You know, like Anna Nicole or someone?

If I want to become an xx model and or feature performer, should I keep my birth name and just use my stage name, or just go ahead and legally change it?

Which is the best choice for notoriety? For safety? What do you girls suggest?

What about porn stars, what do they do? I wikipedia'd it but didn't find much. Thanks girlies!

Also, does it help to change my name if I'm want to incorporate as an one woman entertainment business (for tax purposes)?

You cant use the actual name but you can do a play on it... perfect example a feature in Alberta uses the name 'Jessica Slipson'

Be creative and play on it... I wish I used a different name then what I stuck myself with lol..

And I just realized I read your post all wrong lol...

I won't change my name to Paige D'Winter legally. I don't plan on being her for the rest of my life. Also, there are still plenty of moments in my life where I don't need/want to be Paige.

And well... honestly? For me specifically, I'd feel like I was insulting my parents. They named me. I am part of the family tree, a moment in the time line of our heritage. I'm proud of it, and plan on keeping it alive.

You can incorporate your alias to use for taxes. Dont change your name to your alias.. trust me.. you will end up burned out.

Me being Ashley Tyler all the time is wearing down on me.. and its not even my real name. Like when I travel for bookings everyone calls me Ashley from drivers to hotel clerks to djs dancers and managers... Ashley is different from who I really am... so when i get to switch back to me it helps.

So yea you can make your alias your business name.

    Agreed.

Do not legally change your name to your stripper name. Do you really want to be 'on' as your stage name at all times? I get so fucking tired of being Ginger Lee that I crave being called by my real name. Sometimes I go days at a time without hearing my real name, and it drives me nuts. I was so happy to be in LA this week taking a break between bookings, because people called me by my real name more than 50% of the time.

As a porn star, we use stage names. We don't legally change our names either. It's not worth the hassle of going through all the paperwork that you have to do to change, and it's not really the best thing for your mental well-being. Not even the almighty JJ legally changed her name.

You can legally go by any name you wnt, as long as it is not for the purpose of defrauding someone or committing a crime. So there is no need at all to change your real name.

If you need it on a business license, just list it as "dba," doing business as _______.

EXACTLY! I love my stage name and feel like it suits me better then my real name. I have a cpl friends who call me Cameron all the time, and I'm ok with that. But sometimes I want a break from her. I love that i can go out with some friends and be called by my real name all night long and NOT be the stripper or porn star for the night...I actually crave being "normal". ANd I have no idea if I'll still wnat to be Cameron Keys when i'm 60...so going through the expense and hassle to legally change it doesnt make sense to me.

Anna nicole didnt even legally change her name.On her death cert. it says Vickie Lynn Marshall dba(doing business as) Anna Nicole Smith

Wouldn't legally changing your name to your stage name defeat the safety purpose of having an alias? All of a sudden, anyone who knows your stage name has a better shot at tracking you down.

Wow, you guys gave me a wealth of info from varied perspectives. Thanks for the safety/business aspects of it and the personal experiences!

    Thank you!

I really like my stage name...I just wonder what to do when I'm out and 1/2 my company calls me "____" and the other half calls me"________." Will I/should I disclose my real name and therefore my occupation to all of my acquaintances? Jeez, this is harder than I thought?

Normally I'm only with people who call me my real name or my stage name. It's never an issue about disclosing what I do. I also know that if I'm walking around the mall and some idiot comes running up to me calling me Ginger, he only knows me from a work standpoint. I don't introduce myself as Ginger unless it's a work function, and vice versa.

Of course there are people that know both of my names, but they know what to call me. It's not that hard.

I should change my name legally to "Pooka" I would never change it to my stripper name. But I'm called Pooka WAY more than I'm ever called Amanda. Only my mommy calls me that. (And Paige when shes scolding me.)

    Same thinking here.
Unless you just got a horrible name....then I wouldn't care how they felt about it, because they sucked so much as to give me a crappy name.

    But Sara, while...normal, isn't bad.
