Default So..I must be a dork

But..how do you make friends when you don't go to school anymore? I have friends in my hometown that will always be my friends. But they just fell into my lap, it was so easy. Now I'm finding that when you grow up and move away it's not easy.

I don't want to make friends with strippers, there were only two strippers I met in MD that I'd want to hang out with outside the club, and that's because I met them on SW first!!

So I am wondering how you women made your friends, and where you met them? I am kind of shy at first so it's difficult to me, but if I do ever move back to MD I want to make sure I have friends so that I'm not so lonely.

Good question. I have been wondering the same thing myself. And all of the "crazy bitch" threads doesn't help my optimism on the situation.
God, grant me the senility, to forget the people I never liked anyway,
The good fortune to run into the ones that I do,
And the eyesight to know the difference.

I can't help you there. All of my close female friends are strippers or retired strippers.

Yea I've got three really good stripper friends in PA and know about 4 other ones that are cool, but you gotta admit, finding a sane, smart, clean stripper friend is pretty tough these days.

Not a dork at all, it is hard to make friends when you "grow up" I guess the easiest way would to be to join some kind of group, or go to some kind of activities that are of intrest to you. I belong to a Bulldog club, for Bulldog Owners, and have met a few friends that way.

It's definitely harder to make friends as an adult. I used to be able to make friends through work pretty easily, when I worked in women's bookstores. I'd say find groups related to what you like to do - a book club, or a hiking group, or some other hobby-related group. You'll meet people who like the same things you do.

Look on Craigslist.org for groups in your area, there's all different kinds.
Take a class that interests you, yet is still a social one.
Oooh, I take the MAC seminars at Nordstrom to meet like minded people.

Talk to people when you go. Make sure you can keep the conversation going, there are more shy/introverted people out there that have no clue on how to conversate with strangers. Being friendly and extroverted will make people want to be your friend and the more you act like that, the more people will gravitate towards you.

Youre not a dork. Most of my friends I've had since 3rd grade, or at least elementary school lol..I have a few SW friends that I talk to on a personal level (ie. Know my real name, what BS I'm always going through lol)

I think it would be good for you to look up clubs/organizations of things you are interested in. Like LR said, that way you will find more likeminded people.

    I'll take everyone's suggestions thanks.

And CK, one of my best friends I've been best friends with since 1st grade, another 2 were my parents best friend and I knew them since I was literally born, and the other I met in 5th grade lol. We must both be from small tight knit towns.

well, i make friends with neighbors.
i also make friends with friends of close friends.. like PhillyVixen on here, who wasnt a stripper when we met (im such a bad influence muahaha) is a friend of one of my closest and oldest friends. she and i got to know each other and started hanging out apart from the mutual friend. turned out she was a damn cool chick. we went to VT, and amsterdam together ...and then she became a stripper... so.. that's one example.. i usually find that my friends have good taste in friends so i branched out that way.

    Love it!
