    Default Cocoa vs Shea Butter?

Which one is better? I've always heard about Cocoa butter being great, but now I'm hearing a lot about the "special properties" of shea butter.

    Does anyone have a preference?

I'm currently using a body lotion from Biotherm & a mango body butter from The Body Shop..

I'm using a natural shea butter lotion I got at an herbal store and I prefer it to cocoa butter.

I notice it rubs in better with less residue and it gives my skin a beautiful sheen, especially my legs.

Oh, and it also helped after my recent sunburn. I didn't peel at all.

I do like shea butter. I even use it as a lip gloss. But nothing beats the way cocoa butter smells!

Tough call. I noticed cocoa butter clogs pores on my face, but I love the smell...I don't think shea butter is a pore clogger though. I guess it's an individual choice.

Shea butter. I get mine from the same source as CK. It worked GREAT for the eczema on my hands this past winter. Get the unrefined kind tho, it's MUCH better than that white stuff from bath and body works.

Maybe I should get some for my mom? She has psoriasis on her knees. Do you think it might work for her?

I swear, it works for everything TM. I've never experienced a product like this that was so beneficial. And then to be natural on top of that!

    Virgin Cocoa Butter

Our extra virgin cocoa butter has been extracted from shade grown cocoa beans from the mountainous Kpalime region in southern Togo. We use only shade grown cocoa beans purchased from small farmers at fair prices. Humans have realized the benefit and value of cocoa butter for thousands of years. Cocoa beans were traded since 1000 BC along the Mexican Gulf Coast. Theobroma cacao, the tree that produced cocoa beans has been grown in the wet tropical areas of West Africa since 1590. In Togo, the region that produces cocoa beans is the Chaine du Togo mountains in the south, near the city of Kpalime. You can see pictures of this region by going to our Tour of Togo page. In most parts of Togo, cocoa bean production in is still controlled by small farmers. The beans that Agbanga Karite uses are purchased from small farmers in remote villages. We buy only shade grown, organic beans for our cocoa butter.

Cocoa butter has been use in natural, high quality cosmetics for centuries. Cocoa butter is particularly praised for its antioxidant properties. These properties are due to the tocopherols as well as certain polyphenol. The polyphenol CMP has been found to suppress active oxygen, a factor in cancer. CMP was also found to inhibit the production of an immuno globulin that exacerbates topical dermatitis. As with our other butters, our cocoa butter is produced without any harsh chemicals and has not been refined in any way. Therefore, it retains all its natural healing and preventative properties. In addition, it has a lovely chocolate scent that will carry through in your creams and lotions.

DESCRIPTION: Extra virgin cocoa butter is the fat from cocoa beans expressed through traditional, chemical free methods.

USES: ocoa butter is used as a fatting agent in cosmetic products, topical ointments, creams and lotions and can be used in most oil based products or in the oil phase of cosmetic and toiletry formations. Here are some suggested uses for our extra virgin cocoa butter: Lip Balms, Lipsticks, Sun Care, Hand and Body Lotions and Creams, Facial Moisturizers, Bath Oils, Soaps, Rubs and Ointments, and Body Butters. Click for more information or to purchase raw, virgin cocoa butter.

Honestly, I've never used either, although I plan to buy in bulk when I get pregnant!! But, this is funny because I just saw something called Tummy Honey or something, and it's got both! See here:

    Tummy Honey ingredients:
All Tummy Honey products are hypoallergenic, contain no petroleum or lanolin (ie wool grease), include anti-itch ingredients, and include the following common ingredients: Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Wheat Germ Oil, Aloe Vera, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, and Vitamin E and much more!

    *****
Shea Butter naturally has Vit A,C and E in it. Since going and buying 'all natural' products (ie. unrefined) I dont want to go back to processed products again. Fuck Palmer's, I got my baggie of Shea Butter, and she does me right

I like both. Shea butter is heavier and more moisturizing, but cocoa butter smells divine.

I prefer cocoa butter because I think it smells a lot better. Shea butter smells kind of manly to me for some reason.

I use cocoa butter lotion to blend into my dalmation spot bruises on my legs from work, hehe. But I am crazy about shea butter lotion! I love the scent and it makes my skin feel so silky and smoothe. I use Palmer's shea butter right now, but I've heard that Bath and Body Works has fabulous shea butter. I will definitely have to buy some next time.
