    Angry Politics in stripclubs! rant

I'm sooooo over the politics that are involved in stripclubs. I knew when I started out there were politics involved, however until last night, I really had no idea just how much politics there is. Last night at our club we have basically a feature performance that's put on once a year and it's for the girls that work in our club only. Our club never has features so this is the closest thing they do once per year. I was in it along with 8 other girls. Now, I think all the girls did a great job, I didn't see them perform last night because I was focusing on what I had to do and didn't want to be distracted.

What totally blew me away was the judging factor that went on on who placed. They did it 1st through 4th place. 3rd and 4th place deserved it for sure, but 2nd and 1st place, I was so blown away! The girl who took 2nd fell on head (she was trying to do a back bend, fell on her head, tried to twice and fell on her head) and she didn't remove her bottoms! It's a requirement to be fully nude by the end of the routine, since she messed up she was out of time and didn't remove her bottoms.

The girl who took first place her routine was very very boring (according to what a lot of people were saying and she didn't even stay for the entire rehearsal). I heard from people that worked at the club running this thing that she wasn't practicing or putting forth the effort, just basically whatever. When I saw her do her thing at rehearsal she looked lost and obviously looked unprepared, I could tell she hadn't put much work into it.

I feel like saying "why even have a show, why not just pick your favorite girls and just give them the prize money and not even have a competition". That's basically how it was. I know for a fact that I nailed that routine of mine, I worked my ass off and nailed it. There's another girl who I know also got totally screwed over. Our club doesn't have a pole so she brought in her own personal pole and did a fantastic performance and her theme was so cool and original.

I've really learned last night that it obviously has nothing to do with talent, nothing to do with creativity & originally. It's all about who's whose favorite and who's "on the list". WTF even have a competition, ya know?

I'm not being conceited or anything like that, I just know for a fact that I did an awesome performance and that I at least deserved to place. I had so many people coming up to me telling me what an awesome job I did and they couldn't believe the results, and it wasn't just my friends, it was people that I didn't even know who they were.

Just going to chalk this up as another lesson learned the hard way. It wasn't even so much as the time that I put into bothers me, it's how much money this thing cost me that I didn't make any of it back and that I didn't get the recognition that I know I deserved.

I have to say for all you feature performers, I can only imagine the anger and frustration you've felt when you know your show was awesome and you know you did better than someone else who's show messed up and they won and you didn't.

    Thanks for listening!

Oh yea, when I was working Deja Vu last year there was quite a stir during our Showgirl competition. I really do feel like it's all about favoritism and psst (who's fucking the manager) lol..

I love SC politics and favoritism. I really do!

As long as it doesn't start fucking with my stage music or shift schedule, that is! If it extends to either of those things, I'm OUT of there. I need to be able to choose my stage music without constantly hearing "oh but (insert name of one of the DJ's favorite dancers) loves this song and that song and practically every song that's on your card, so I'm saving them for her." And I wouldn't last a day at a club where the "money shifts" are only given to the favorites.

Fortunately, my club doesn't do either of those things. They do have definite favorites though, and who gets set up with spendy VIP guys in multi-hour rooms by the hosts every night? Yep, you guessed it. But I love that, because it only makes me more determined to become a top earner ON MY OWN. It fires me up and gets me in full hustle mode when I see certain girls basically being handed hundreds of dollars every night and spending half their nights sipping champagne on comfy couches with a guy massaging their shoulders. It brings out my competitive side, and makes me even more thirsty for $$...I want the thrill of being able to say I'm earning just as much if not more, and I'm doing it DESPITE their favoritism and politics.

Just anther way to react to favoritism Because there's not much, if anything, you can do to change their behaviour...but if you can react to it in a way that gets you going and making more money, you win.

Well, this was my first one I did. After talking to people that have worked there for a long time, apparently, it's always been like that. Girls that should've won didn't and the girls that shouldn't have won did. All about favoritism. Apparently one year this girl who's now a manager did it and rocked it and didn't win and the audience just booed like crazy when the girl who won did because she apparently did a bad show but was the favorite of the club manager or owner or something. The club claims that the judges last night have never seen our competitions in the past and didn't know any of the girls that these judges were randomly picked, so they CLAIM there was no politics and favoritism going to happen. Riiiiight!!!!!

What just irks me so much too is the girl that finished 2nd didn't take her panties off. It's a requirement to be fully nude by the end of the performance, I feel if you didn't get fully nude by the end of the performance that should be immediate disqualification! We work in a nude club and the manager who was in charge of this said "You HAVE to be fully naked by the time your music stops" and this girl wasn't. I can't even see how ANYONE can justify her getting 2nd place when she not only fell on her head but didn't fulfill the requirement of getting nude! That's sooooo fucked up it sickens me to death!

    Hi,

I'm sorry that went on in your club. Most likely the winners already KNEW that they were going to win. Generally in clubs there is favoritism and the favorites are usually the girls who hang out with/fuck the management.

This is why I'm lax to give the stripping performance competitions a go this year. It costs me money to do these competitions and the majority of them are rigged (show me a competition that has fair and equal judging and I'll show you that the Easter Bunny is real) so I'm done with them for the time being.

I was thinking of doing Miss Nude yet I'm not really pumped about the idea as I know that one can definately be rigged.

Yeah, at my Phx club the contests are total bullshit. That's apparently pretty typical of most clubs. It's all about who brings in the most friends to cheer for you, getting shills to "judge", and who has the right "friends" in the club. I did one contest at this club my first year here, and I'll never do another. I had a big show with props, theme and all, and when my set was done the cheering was so loud you couldn't hear the DJ on the mic for a few seconds. I got more money on stage for that set than anyone else, by far. I got 4th place. The girls who got 2nd and 3rd totally deserved it. But the chic who got 1st didn't do shit! She had a really nice costume but she did NOTHING for her routine. I mean all she did was WALK AROUND. Her set was last, and the customers were literally BORED with her set, AND alot of them thought she wasn't even part of the contest! I was so pissed off. Obviously I expected to place higher than 4th after all the crowd response I got (the contests at this club are SUPPOSED to be judged partly on that). And when I saw who won I was completely FURIOUS. I will never, ever do another contest at this club because it's not a dance/strip contest at all.

Also, the girl who wins Miss HiLiter all the time only wins because she has the right "friends". She does the same old routine she ALWAYS does on stage, no extra effort, no theme, no costume, no show. She is a good dancer but ferfucksake!!! It's absolutely ridiculous that this chic always "beats" all the other girls who do more elaborate shows.

The clubs do it because they can draw in a big crowd. My club gets so packed for the Miss HiLiter contest they are over capacity and have to stop letting people in. Of course most the people are friends of the contestants, but the club doesn't care. They get a huge crowd paying lots of covers and buying lots of drinks. That's why they do it. And I guess they figure they need to "take care of" their "best" girls, so that's what they do.

Anyway. Welcome to the world of stripping. I guess now you've been fully initiated I have been literally begged to do some contests at this club since then, and I tell them flat out I won't do it and why. The manager understands. So I just do my thing at work and ignore the rest. Not much else you can do.

Someday you may become the favoured one

I started out on the bottom but after 4 contests they decided to crown me lol...

I dunno... I mean these smaller interclub contests are obviously fixed.. as are the agency run ones...*coughMissNudeManitobacough*

The larger Miss Nudes are usually okay though...

Sorry you had such a bad experience

I think the best advice I ever got for contests was from Sandra Catz... its not about your score, nor is it about the title you win... its about doing your personal best and outdoing yourself every time.

Thanks Cally. Yes, I did my personal best and what made me feel really good is sooooo many girls in the club kept coming up to me telling me how awesome my show was and that I totally deserved to win. These were even girls that I don't even really know or talk to. Even though I didn't actually win the title, at least I know that many of the girls there thought mine was the best and I think that counts more than the title. The girls who weren't there that night that didn't see the shows asked me how I did and I told them "Well, I nailed my routine and everyone said mine was the best one" and they totally got my drift on that and just shook their heads and rolled their eyes and said "yup, that's typical, that's why I only did the show one year". So, it's nice to know that in many of the girls eyes I was the winner or at least someone who placed because anyone can be given the award if you're in the right group or are liked by the right people but not just anyone can deliver a good performance. Delivering a good performance can't be handed to someone because they're in the "in crowd", the only one who can deliver the performance is the girl who's actually doing the performing.

Thanks for reminding me of things I don't miss about the job. Not only is it not fair, but it's also plain ol' bad business that winds up hurting everyone. Contests -- which could provide motivation to dancers to improve and innovate by rewarding the best -- are reduced to morale killers for dancers and proof to customers of how shady clubs are. Yeah, that's right. Never mind it's not fair to the contestants; it communicates to the customers that everything about this place is RIPOFF CITY. They're not stupid; they see what's happening and know why. And for what? To please some candyass manager. Not the customer, mind you. Noooo, let's not excite the customers and motivate the dancers. Let's not offer something new and exciting in a dying business. Let's not make this an entertainment event. Heavens no. More important that management cultivates its power and privileges.

That sucks. At least you know you did your best. I won't ever (ever!) do a competition b/c I know if I don't win, I'll be pissed off all night. It's not worth it to me.

I've talked to the judges of Nudes personally. They're not really that rigged. A little. Not much.
