    Default Help with tom cat

Marvin, my tom cat, HATES my brother. My brother has moved in to save money so he can move closer to his job and his gf. What can I do to get him to like him? Marvin get's so mad when my brother is here only my wife can pick him up, he will not let me go near him when he's pissed off at my brother. He's not a mean cat he just don't like strangers and he hates my brother. Thanks for any help!

We thought about that but he can't get that close. I think we will try it somehow! Thanks

i'm taking it he's an intact (unneutered) kitty?

they tend to have some territorial issues around other males of any species...it may get a little bit better with time, when he accepts that your brother is not interested in moving in on his stuff...if he's not neutered, gettign that done will help a little (less testosterone = less aggression)...

even if your brother can't get close to the cat, he can be the one to put food in his bowl, and put the bowl down - he doesn't actually have to get near the cat, just make sure that the cat sees him provide food and learns to associate him with good things...

there's also a product available called Feliway (i think it's spelled like that) that works kind of like a plug in air freshener, but uses pheromones that are supposed to chill cats out a bit...it might be worth asking your vet about something like that...

It does exist as I used to use it to help Bibs and Puddy get along. Now that Bibs is no longer, there is no need to use it. No one for Puddy to dislike as he loved my flatmate and myself.

Also, if your TomCat is NOT de-sexed PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get it done as soon as is possible. Why? Even if your cat is indoors only there is no need for a cat (male or female) to be intact these days unless you are a licensed breeder.

As for other hints and tips, feel free to join the forum I am on:

    to search for an answer.

It's not just for Australians as it has plenty of international members.

not to mention all of the additional health risks that go along with having an intact pet...

did you have much luck with the feliway? my clinic carries it, but i've not personally known anyone who's used it and have never had any need to try it myself...

Oh btw, the Feliway did help IMO so I can reccommend it for its costly price.

He is neutered and my brother can't stay away from him. Marvin just finds him and waits until he can strike! Thanks for the ideas, I have been working on my site and have not been on here for a while. I think we will try the treats before asking the vet for that stuff.
