    Default Living Alone and Boredom

Don't get me wrong... I LOVE living alone! I do NOT want a roommate.

That said, I get SO bored... especially at night. I dunno... maybe it's the whole "winding down for bed" thing. Sleep is good... but it's boring. I have DVD's, a DVR, internet, a Wii... a FERRET, even. I could even study if I brought myself to be responsible.

Instead, I sit on my couch and pout like, "Blah, no one's around to entertain me". But, I SHOULDN'T have people around to entertain me... I should be going to bed! Oh, and then I go, "Well, I might as well have a drink". Ugh, that's just a horrible habit that I need to get rid of right now!

    Am I just weird?

    No, you are just human.

Humans are social creatures therefore no matter what we crave social real life interaction with other people.

This is why I'm considering becoming someone's room-mate instead of being alone at home because I see myself spending MORE money because I need to entertain myself than when there is someone home (to be able to have that interaction with)

    Not weird at all.

Sounds kinda like me! I find that I have to force myself to keep busy with something, whether it's surfing the web, playing Guitar Hero, walking outside, or drawing, otherwise I revert to my bad habits (such as alcohol and the like...) when I'm bored.

Buy a stripper pole! Dance for a few hours and you'll be ready for bed.

I can SOOO relate! Just me and my kitty! And I also find myself spending more money when I'm this bored. It's like, "well, might as well go buy a new outfit!" Lol. I usually mess around with my studio and record songs when I'm bored. Or, I clean. Or, do my excercise videos. And of course, you ladies keep me entertained when I'm lonely or bored!!

That isn't that bad a suggestion. If you have the room -- HulaHooping!

Or you can get addicted to World of Warcraft or similiar games ???

Well seems like you have a lot of crazies offering you attention. Make some tea!

Get completely naked.... dial 911... be silent.... hang up.... then go grab the most PEANUT BUTTER-LIKE thing you have, rub it all over yourself and wait.

I bet you'll have better results

Yes, I have a pole... and world of warcraft (but I just haven't been into that much lately... hence the Wii). I'm mad at my pole right now... stupid stainless steal, grrr. When I get my brass one, I might use it more.

Mast, that's a good idea... but I don't want to get peanut butter all over the carpet.

Just before I turned age 50, I had never been alone more than three months! My ex-wife left about 13 years ago and I got the kids. And they stayed much longer than they needed to. In the spring of last year, all of them had finally moved out. And for months I revelled in being alone. But then it started to suck! I also found out that I had developed a dependancy on their problems, but I guess also on their company.

There have only been a couple of occasions when I really thought about a permanent relationship with a woman, outside of that, no. Hence the dance thing which still goes on after 10 years.

Up until awhile ago, I had three friends whom I saw every now and again and that was fine. Unfortunately, it has dwindled to one, but he is a great friend.

You did not mention friends.I hope you are getting out to see them.

Taking trips is also great. Not only have I enjoyed the Stripperfests, and other trips I have taken to meet people related to dance, but I have trekked to Montreal as well to meet folks there.

Get out, go to the movies, with a friend or even by yourself.

Find groups that gather with common interests.

I am still 90 % OK with it.

If you are talking about the empty be syndrome, well, I can't help you there. I still struggle with the idea of wanting someone there.

I have a furry companion that looks dead sexy in a bowtie that keeps the boredom at bay. His name is Ted E. Bear.

In a pinch, that guy is a great conversationalist, chef, and writer's block remover.

I live alone and I never have time to be bored really. Between the internet and the five billion episodes of Law and Order on my DVR I'm good.

However, I always usually have a lot of work to do at home and my family lives very close. I don't really have time to get bored unless I'm REAAALLLLY show at work.

uh, i thought that's what sw was for.

    get a hobby!

reading helps me during "downtime" although i hardly have any these days with work and family.

but maybe that's why most guys go to sc's? frankly, i've only been to a couple (because dj friends) but i would guess it's the entertainment and companionship (albeit rented) reasons why some/most guys go often.

anywho, i really do think sw was the anti-boredom solution.

I don't think it's weird, Bella...when I moved to England this was really the first time I lived "alone" (not counting when I was in the university dorms); I otherwise had roommates or neighbors around my age, or family to keep me company. But (especially lately), it's been wake up, shower, go to work, come home, have dinner, go to sleep...lather rinse repeat. It would be nice to have people to come over and hang out (but not hang around)...it's just that I'm hardly ever here!

At the same time, I do think I've hermit-ized myself a bit; I've got the big TV, hundreds of CDs and DVDs, a PS2, and a laptop with broadband. If I didn't *have* to leave the house five days a week, I probably wouldn't.

Oy, outside of telling you you're not alone, I'm afraid I haven't helped

Living alone can be lonely at times, sometimes you miss having someone to talk to. I feel the same as you completely, I spend lots of time on the computer and watching tv

When I get in a mood like that...I usually go to a strip club...nothing like whiskey, loud music, and naked women to liven up the night...
