Yesterday, I started my first day as a secretary at a health school. A woman came in for enrollment, financial aid, and for a potential work-study job. She got accepted for the first two, but of course she didn't get the job, especially since all the office workers are female.
She was wearing a sheer, see-through white lace top with a hot pink bra underneath. She had also brought her fussy baby in her SUV-sized stroller, regularly blocking the aisles rather than back him up into a corner. Yes, to a professional interview. I couldn't fucking believe it. I have my power skirtsuit (bought it at a thrift store!) for interviews, the hem is at the knee, I wear conservative heels and pantyhose, I put my hair up, and I put on my professional mode. Yeah, maybe she's having a hard time in life, but for me, it's unthinkable to bring a kid to an interview. Also, she could have at least worn an undershirt or camisole under that sheer blouse.
Where has professionalism gone? I'm not hating on her, but I've taken courses on finding employment and being interviewed, and the instructors would have shat their pants if they had seen this woman.
