How would I go about this?

I have recently decieded to stop dancing. I have been thinking about doing childcare, instead. I am a mother to 3 children ages 10, 7, and 4. I am also married and have been for 11 years now. My questions to you are:
    1. What would your expectations be from a childcare provider?
    2. Would posting a sign in a dressing room be a good idea?
    3. What would be reasonable rates?
    4. How would a posting be "worded" that would catch your eye?
    5. Where else would you let people know that you are available? (internet, ect.)

I may have many more questions as this goes further.

If you are serious about making a profit, I would get business cards made. You can take classes to get special certification to have a "day care" from the state... generally makes parents feel more comfortable about you and your home as it's all been checked out. My good friend did this and ran it for about 8 kids at a time by herself on her farm.

You can also charge a bit more with the credibility of a "daycare license"

Kryssy, you're first going to have to get licensure through the state. Are you going to accept public assistance ie. vouchers?

Also, you can only have a max number (I can't remember how many) children in the house when you are watching them, unless you hire help.

When my sister had home daycare providers for my nieces, she made sure that she hadn't hired just a babysitter. What I mean by that was the HDCP didn't just sit them in front of TV all day. She interacted with them. They learned their colors, shapes, ABC's etc. When they started headstart, they were ahead of the other kids.

As far as advertising, Stripclubs of course, college campuses are both great places to start.

Although i have only did babysitting on a very small scale, i feel word of mouth marketing is excellent in this area. having business cards to hand out to parents would be great, and if you do a good job most people will tell their friends who are looking for childcare.
i also found having a first aid certificate gives potential clients a confidence boost too.
Make sure to tell all of your friends and friends of friends what you are starting up because i'm sure you will often hear "oh we were thinking about hiring someone blah blah blah" and so the chain begins.

the state requires first aid and cpr i think.. it's all inclusive and you have special rules on foods and other things (for choking hazzards)

that's all i remember her telling me, but this came up when i was doctoring up my foot with her old first aid kit

If you are 100% serious, check with your local Health & Human Services agency or its equivalent. They have licensure, inspections, regulations, etc...and people are generally willing to pay more for someone who has taken the trouble to do this.

    Good post CK.

Kryssy, I wouldn't even consider putting children in a non-licensed environment. I would also want to see your curriculum and be briefed about your insurance information.

Maybe other moms aren't as anal, but, better to be prepared, right?
