    Default Pole bruises

When you are learning new tricks, sometimes it looks like someone took the pole out of the ceiling and beat you with it. Now I am a fairly dark girl, don't bruise easily, but I have worked really hard this week and that evidence is written all over me. What do you say to people that ask you about it? I caught some looks in class yesterday, I feel like I look like a battered girlfriend.

Depends on who they are...whenever people ask about my bruises I just smile slyly and say "foreplay"....

But you may not want to do that in a very conservative setting..LOL!

I make a point of doing something that LOOKS like it would leave a bruise, so they don't ask....

IE i say "i do jazz/hip hop dancing" and then show up stretching, and do this move where you jump to fourth position(one foot in front of the other) and twist while bending your knees, and bring your weight down the center to sit on the floor(i should video it), so it looks like you hit the floor hard and may have bruised your knees through having the weight slightly off... Kudos if you actaully make up choreography, to "practice" in the hall before class, so it looks like your genuinely preparing for a show.

No one has EVER questioned any bruises when shown/explained like that...

And of course Arnica gel and pills help get rid of bruising and swelling faster than without.

You could say you helped a friend move...I find that taking arnica pills/pellets (you can get them in the supermarket) works better than the gel. Preventative treatment is better I think. Eat the pills a day before you work and before you go in and it will greatly decrease your bruising. They're tiny little dots of sugar and arnica....they're hardly like real pills (which I hate taking). That's my advice.

I normally wear long pants if I have a lot of fresh bruises, but if someone asks me, then I tell them, "My pimp beats me." This is either good to shut them up, or to get some money if they are really stupid.

Anyhow I wouldn't worry too much. I always have bruises from being clumsy and I don't feel a need to explain them to anyone.

The funniest thing is the amount of guys at work who INSIST that my bruises are from an abusive boyfriend and i just dont want to say "come on..I KNOW...you can tell me"
Esp since I bruise most often on my shins....I almost never have bruises on my body or arms, etc...so yeah...I'm dating an abusive midget. Every day I get home and he just pokes me repeadedly in the shins until I give him my money...WTF??

Haha I've had that happen too. I had a ginormous amount of bruises on my leg and the guy asked what happened to me. I told him it was from stage and he just looked at me.

My mom would always ask why my knees were bruised. The DJ told me to say I got beat up by a midget. Damn abusive midgets

Best excuse: "I am an athletic girl. Not only do I dance, but I do tons of other sports, like baseball, football, soccer, track, etc." Not only does it get the attention off your bruises, but it gets people talking about sports they play and how they got injured/bruised.

I do ALOT of pole work, but when asked, I tell people its cause I was playing basketball with my friends the other day, or that it could be from any other sport that I play. Gets guys in the club talking to you, too.

    Oh hell yes, that'll work.

Or tell them you're a kickboxer, they might be less inclined to mess with you then, lol.

What I have found in my own case and that of newbie pole damcers is that the bruises are much less frequent after a few weeks consistent work on it. Though I did know one dancer who was very prone to bruising who kept doing them anyway because she loved it--and damn was that girl good!

The more I see it and the more I play around myself, the more I think doing them slower is better--and less prone to bruising.

I tell people I take pole dancing lessons (which is partially true, I took from Alena !YAY!) and most everyone finds it facinating. I tell them about all the cool tricks I can do and try to explain it to them. I haven't had a single person think it was strange or continue on to ask if I am a dancer.

I am with the vitamin K. Works.

Years ago I had to go to the gynocologist....and wouldn't you know it I had a Huge bruise on my thigh. He looked very concerned and started asking me questions. I flat out told him that I was a stripper 'cause I did not know what else to tell him. I shit you not, on the way out he told me in a joking way to watch out for them poles. I was SO freaking embarrassed.

Yea, that's why I think I've never had a problem with my bruises. If they were all over my arms... I'd have a lot more trouble explaining them away with a, "I bruise so easily! I don't even know what I do to myself, hehehe."
