    having rhinoplasty in a week!

well im am having rhinoplasty in about a week!! I am really excited but also really nervous…mostly about the results. I paid $6300 plus lab fees and medicine

    I have a few questions:

    1. Do they usually do rhinoplasty under local or general anesthesia? They told me I would have a tube down my throat…is that only done with general anesthesia?

    2. This is the surgeon and his qualifications: http://www.plastic-surgerycalifornia.com/cv.html
I unfortunately noticed that has only been working as a plastic surgeon for a few years and his American Board of Plastic Surgery is still “Pending”, should I be worried? What do you think of his other qualifications?

    3. They say it will take a year to see the final results. How drastic of a change does it really make from a few months after vs. the full year after?

    4. Feel free to post any suggestions tips for pre/post surgery tips and any personal experiences (and yes I already did a search for rhinoplasty and read those posts!)

    5. oh yah! they prescribed me antibiotics, do I really need to take these afterwards?? i
i hate antibiotics, and they said there will already be one going through the IV

    rhino is done under general.

i dont know anything about US qualifications,so ill leave that for someone else to answer.

it can take *up to* a year to see all changes, i noticed a huge differance the day they removed the cast. everyone is differnt tho. depends how much they slice off hah

He's two years out of fellowship and residency. He has been doing plastic surgery for 5 years, but only two of of those have been unsupervised. As far as his boards go, he could have just taken them or be about to take them and that is where the "pending" comes from.

He had a lot of awards as a resident. That means he was a super go-getter amongst a bevy of people who are already anal retentive high achievers.

    Please take your antibiotics!!!!

Even if you don't think anything is wrong they are prescribed to keep infection away. Rhino is a traumatizing surgery for the body.

This is also true for people given antibiotics for an illness and stop taking them after their symptoms go away --they aren't "killed" at this point. It may suppress the bacteria so that you can't tell anymore you have it but wait until you stop and the bacteria will come back much worse because they've been building up a little resistance while being beat down.

Just because you can't see them doesn't mean they aren't there. I'd take them as long as the doctor prescribed so I didn't have any problems.

I had it. It was painless and just a little irritating but not bad. Just take the meds and don't bump your nose! Good luck.

Take sinn-ech (arnica) before your surgery for a couple days. This really helped me with the bruising and swelling.

It takes a year for your final nose to show but you will see progress over a few months. every week it gets better. Don't be surprised if you really dont like your nose at first, you have to wait for the swelling to go down.

    Good luck!

Mine was under "twilight." I guess I was awake during the whole thing, but I can't remember much.

The first 80% of the swelling will be gone within three months. Be very careful not to cause trauma to your nose, especially during the first 2 months. (for example, don't pick up kids or pets that might bump your nose.) DON'T EVEN SMILE DURING THE FIRST WEEK. I'm not kidding.
Lets see... have several bags of frozen peas in the freezer and USE THEM to keep the swelling down. It will speed up the healing process. Put BACITRACIN (specifically bacitracin- I don't remember why) on your stitches every day 3 times a day. Oh, and most importantly, you will be SHOCKED when you look in the mirror. Even though you know what to expect its still VERY SCARY to look at your own face all swollen and different, especially because you don't know how its going to turn out. (I had computer generated pictures, but its still different when you see your own face in the mirror and it looks weird...)

PM me after you have your surgery and tell me how it went!!! ttyl.
