Default Can't feel my mojo til I go on stage

I have this problem (as I think many dancers do) that I can't really get into it and work my game until I've gone on stage--which could be an hour or so after I come onto the floor. I've developed this ritual of using that first stage to help me transition into the club atmosphere, get my bearings, figure out who to approach, etc. But I'm wasting valuable time.

Do any of you have this problem or know of any sure-fire ways to psyche yourself of and go from lady-in-the-street to fast-talking sex goddess the minute you step onto the floor?

    Oh that is so me!

I've learnt to deal with this in one way -- be a hostess and "warm myself up" that way. Go around the room and don't hustle for any dances (unless I'm in a super pumped mood where I can't wait to start selling)... just 'chat' for a song or two before I say "Well, I'll come by a little later. Hope you have a great night if I don't see you sooner. Feel free to tip me when I'm up on stage soon."

Or I play the NO game (as originally posted many many moons ago by Paris).

I do anything I possibly can to get me off my ass and speaking with the patrons.

At my home club, I am rather lucky tho' in that usually I can get up on stage pretty soon after I arrive whether I am starting at the start of the night or later in the night due to how it isn't rostered.

I'm the same way. Hell I'm even to shy to want to talk to customers unless I've gotten on stage first. I don't feel as if I'm in "stripper mode" until I've been on the stage. I can feel the transformation as I walk up the steps to hit the stage.

I thought I was the only one!!! I can't even stand to be inside the freakin' building 'till I go up on stage. I have to get into 'dance time mode' if you will. But after I get done w/ stage, I'm all like pumped up and ready to wow some people with my "spectacular moves".

Yep. Me too. I normally stay in the dressing room til right before I'm on stage. It does suck though that's there is so much wasted time. I just can't make myself go out and work. I'm just so shy.

i usually at least scope out the room first, and if i see someone that looks good or is looking at me, i'll go talk to them. but the majority of the time i dont do anything til i dance, either.

I'm right there with ya. I must go on stage before I can attempt to talk to anyone. I don't know, I just feel different after I've gone on stage. I feel the energy, I lose the inhibitions I had. Sometimes going on stage isn't even enough. I sit in the dressing room until it's time to go on stage.

Yep..me too. Unless there is a reg there I know well..I dont talk to anyone until i go on stage..unless they come and talk to me first. I think for me it's so many years of guys saying "I want to wait to see you on stage first"....so now I cant bring myself to bother until I go up.

I used to be this way....until I moved to Vegas. Here, it can be 4 hours until I am on stage. You can't possibly wait until your stage to get your mojo.
I was forced to find it some other way. It was ahard thing to do, and I still struggle with it, but the only way to do it is just do it. Jump right in, get a lapdance. As soon as you get 1, the rest of the night is easy. The first guy you walk up to is the hardest. Then it gets easier and easier. Before you know it..you got your mojo!

Stage is what gets me going, and I've gotten some decent returns on playing up that beginning-of-the-night shyness by asking guys to help me get warmed up.
I've also had good luck doing the hostess thing and just casing the room. Sometimes that no-sell sell at the beginning of the night has gotten me some great customers.

In little clubs where you get put up right away it is nice to have that time to warm up. I prefer it but I could go either way.

Going from "regular me" to my stripper self is like jumping into an ice cold lake. It's got to be done though and waiting for stage can take too long. I see it like making pancakes, the first few never come out quite right, but before long you're in the flow, flipping perfectly round golden circles. So, I sacrifice my first few dances to be bad pancake dances. Slightly awkward, a little embarrasing, but a necessary step to finding yourself in the flow. When I think about the fact that it's a bad pancake dance I laugh, which always lightens things up and makes it easier.Just knowing and expectingthat stripping will feel awkward for the first half hour helps. You can also just walk through the room as though you're on your way to someplace fabulous, then ask the guy in the farthest corner. If you get turned down, no one noticed, and at least you're warming yourself up and getting out there instead of sitting around waiting to go onstage.
