Default Best part of the UK to visit...........

over Christmas & New Years? Yes, I know it will be cold:p

I've finally decided to have a visit to the UK. I'm SO EXCITED!!
But I was wondering where would be the best place to stay to see the countryside during the day and see a local band at night?
I just need a nice central place to stay, so that I can get up bright and early to travel about, but still have local things to do when I get back.

    Thanks so much!!

I liked Cambridge, but I don't remember how central that was...... We stayed there about a week though.

I love Brighton but Im from that region and biased. What sort of bands do you like though?
Edingburgh is an amazing city also, I loved it there though I went in summer. Im not sure that trecking up to Authors Point is sensible or even possible in winter, lol. Theres plenty more places to see though of course!
The countryside is fairly easy to get to and from in lots of if not most most areas of the UK - in lots of towns and cities the countryside is within walking distance and at most just a short train ride away.
I would suggest travelling around to a few different places if you can. The amount of history in that place is amazing!
I hear tht York is a beautiful place to visit and als Devon and Cornwall are meant to be breathtaking. Stopping off at Stonehenge is probably worthwhile too!

I second York. We stayed there for a little over a week as well. I found lots to do, but we didn't have that much downtime as we were there to perform. But it was a really pretty town and people were very friendly. There was a viking village underground that is set up on the actual old viking roads. It was kinda neat, think Disney ride kinda. But be prepared. They use smells to make it as realistic as possible......

    Thanks everyone!!

I've still got a ways to go as far as planning, but I definitely want to visit Liverpool and Dublin, Ireland. The Cotswolds looked very nice in the pictures and of course, I would like to see Stonehenge! Two week seems like a long time to be away from work, but not nearly enough to see what I want.
I'll definitely look into the places ya'll mentioned!
