    What do I do?

I just figured up all my debt and it breaks down thusly, in order of priority:

    K - $1500
    IRS - $1141
    Visa - $4800
    Loan - $9700
    Car - $2700

As you can see, that is a shitload of debt. I had a really bad year in 2006. This year has been somewhat better, but it's slowed down again. I've been to nearly every club in SoCal and it's so slow, none of them are hiring. I couldn't get hired at Blockbuster or the temp agencies I called. I know this is a recession, so I don't know what to do. I have a master's degree and I'd like to find a teaching position, but there aren't any.

I have to stay in SoCal for my film stuff, and I'm getting some dominatrix calls (I've already made $750 this week as a domme). Basically the domme stuff is enough to live on but not pay down any debts.

There is nothing on this earth I wouldn't do to be debt-free again. I've even tried to get (shudder) waitress jobs, but this economy blows. So are there any programs or anything that I might not know about? Any kind of wacky scheme, any kind of federal (hah) program, anything at all? All you financial geniuses, do you have any tips?

I've always been good with money and had a good work ethic. I dunno how it all got away from me like this.

Damn girl I know how it is. I would cry if I had to break down all my debts. I think my bills are more than my income right now and am only surviving because of my dude. All I can say with the dancing is that you might have to travel a bit farther (I know -gas is ridiculous) or just really hustle your dungeon customers as best you can and wait until fall when it the club situation improves. Luckily I won't be going back 'til August/Sept.

COI wasn't any good? I thought for sure you'd get something down that way.

I did try phone sex and it wasn't much money. And how can I make $20,000 on eBanned? Is that possible? I don't know eBanned but I thought it was just where you sold old shoes and stuff.

Melonie, I'm fairly serious. I don't want to go to prison or wind up with a lifelong disease, but I would try the Nevada prostitution route if I thought it would work; unfortunately I hear even that's slow. I'll go just about anywhere and do whatever. I even looked into selling my eggs but I'm too short and they don't want them. What do you suggest?

I did the Vegas thing last year and made the same money I made dancing in L.A., but with additional expenses (hotel, gas). Lost money, actually. I think I'm just not cut out for the backstabbing, cutthroat Vegas scene. I do well in rural clubs, and I was thinking about a trip to North Dakota or something, but if the clubs around here aren't hiring then I hesitate to think they will be anywhere else, either. What do you think? Has the recession maybe not hit the upper midwest yet?

On the debt, I'm not that knowledgeable, but a loan officer didn't tell me this. Pay down your smallest debts first, no matter what the interest rates. Even if you end up with the highest interest on the last account, you still get everything paid off quicker by paying on less accounts with interest, if that makes sense. If you work it out on paper, it makes sense. I'm kinda bad at explaining it though.

Yeah, that's how I arranged the priorities, except what I owe K. He's not charging me interest but I want to pay him off first; I don't have to share a bed and maintain a loving home with my other creditors. They can bloody well wait until I get that $1500 paid off first so that my debts at least won't be affecting my home life.

Hmm, I didn't know there was a recession, is it just in your area? Where I live there are help wanted signs everywhere. I have a friend in your situation and she's been working double shifts as a waitress, two different restaurants, because she's so determined to get out of debt. She's not loving it, but she's so driven that I know she'll make her goals.

I know it's not ideal, but there must be places you could waitress. Trying to get out of debt depending on the sex industry can be tough because it can be so sporadic. $750 a night at the dungeon, then nothing for the rest of the week is nervewracking. It would be better to work night and day at two regular jobs because you wouldn't have time to think about it and you would know you're chipping away at the debt every day. Of course you couldn't live that way forever, but if you really want to get out of debt it would be worth doing for a while.

Also, I know debt is miserable, but there's something about doing a blow job to pay a Visa bill that just doesn't sit right. I mean, do it to get your movie made (LOL!), but for Visa? Hell no!

I've been looking everywhere, believe me. I can't even get one job, much less two. The recession is coming to the rest of the country sooner or later, so get ready; it's already here in SoCal. Everyone I know out here is really hurting and either unemployed or barely hanging on.

I'm still looking though. I was just wondering if there was some kind of scheme or program I hadn't heard about. There are so many knowledgeable people on here; it never hurts to ask!

If you are just looking for a square job, go to the industrial and business parks near the airport, and apply everywhere. Some of these parks have 20+ businesses you can visit without moving your car. Entry level jobs in these areas are typically some combination of a clerk, data entry, and customer service. Here we pay ~$9-10 an hour + insurance after 90 days, 2 weeks paid vacation after 1 year. We are considered to be cheap. I imagine Cali would have to pay more. It's not really cool, but bottom line is: it beats the fuck out of retail and the majority of waitressing jobs.

If you are near the coast, and have exhausted the area around the airport, try the port (like cargo boats, not cruise ships).
