    Smiley Start to model

Hi! Well i really want to model....i just dont know how to get started!!!!!!!

im open to nude modeling.....n of course my dream is to be in playboy someday.

however, i dont know where to begin. how do i find a GOOD photographer who wont rip me off? i know a few photographers who said they can do some shoots for me....but how do i know its legit?

so when you go to a photographer, they help you make a modeling portfolio, right?

then once you DO have that, what the hell do you do with it? i know you can submit pictures to magazines and such...but what else??? go to an agency??

thanks for any info and if you know of any good threads that would help me, that would be great. thanks!

Be warned that Playboy likes their models to be "new" to the industry. Ie, they generally don't want girls who've done adult modelling for other magazines and such.

If I were you, I'd just get a friend to take some full body and headshots and send them to Playboy. They say it can take 6 months for them to respond, but if that's your dream, isn't it worth the wait? Playboy can open alot of doors if you get in

Go to that page, read it and follow the directions exactly. You don't have to submit a model portfolio to them - they just want some shots so they can see what you look like.

The most common websites that I know where you can sign up for free or nearly free are and . There are a ton of others.

If you have a few pictures to post and put in your description, "Looking to do TFP/TFCD with good photographers to build my portfolio," you'll get a ton of responses. (TFP/TFCD is "time for prints/time for CD" - in other words, you give them modeling time, and you get pictures back) You'll have to screen the responses, because a lot of them will be pervs wanting to be photographers. If you click on their pages and narrow them down to the ones you like, you can start checking those photographers' references. Be especially careful that the photographers actually do send photos to the model, and how long it takes them to do that.

I wouldn't click "Nude" in your portfolio preferences. That really brings out the wannabes. Instead, you can hint in your portfolio language about your preferences, and then make them more clear when you start talking seriously to some photographers.

You are probably not going to work for free with really professional photographers. They make their living with this stuff, and they don't give their time away any more than a dancer gives lap dances away. But you can probably find creative and skilled photographers who do it for a hobby or part-time who can get you some good shots. Just take your time on the filtering process.

Once you get in some really nice photos, then you will have more credibility to start bringing in money for modeling. But it can be a slow process. Patience.

Bridgette is right, of course. If you want to do Playboy, they're going to want to "discover" you. If that's what you're shooting for (ha, ha), then either don't sign up for nude photo shoots, or try Playboy first.

Now, my overview is based on what I've seen and worked with. Feel free to PM me if you want a little more in-depth explanation, or just ask around here with people who are posting modeling pictures. There are lots of ladies here who have had online portfolios, and they can tell you better what they've run across.

^ he gave you some good info. Don't expect to get paid off the bat. It takes time. Yo need to build up a decent portfolio first, and you need experience. Modeling isn't just about looking pretty. You need to learn how to pose, how to move, how to read pohotographers so you know how to give them what they want. All photogs are different, and after different things. You have to learn how to read them and give what they want. You also have to learn how to anticipate when they will click that camera, so you have your eyes open. Sounds dumb and easy, but it's not. When I first started modeling, out of 1200 pics, 200 would be deleted due to blinks. My last shoot, 3 were deleted.
You also have to learn how to be able to snap into a pose and hold it. Some photogs. will pose you, some won't. You need to know how to pose.

If your going for Playboy, watch what you do nude. That goes for most mags. When I was in Maxim's hometown hotties, I had to take down every single nude pic on any website, and I was unable to accept any nude work.

However..if you want paid modeling, you'll get more work if you will do nudes. You'll also get paid better.

Screen your photographers thourghly. Ask for references, check them. Be clear on what content your going to be shooting. Ask what is going to be prvided, and what you need to bring. I always take an escort with me to first time shoots with new photogs. If a photog. refuses an escort, don't shoot with him. But don't take yoru bf. Take a friend. Don't take someone you'll be nervous or uncomfortable in front of.

Theres a lot of flakey models. Dont be one. Photographers talk to each other, and yo dont want your name out there as a flake. if you have a shoot, show up, be on time. Work hard, and act professional.

If yoru shooting nudes or revealing clothes, then wear loose fittin gclothing to the shoot. No panties, no bra, no socks. Anythign tight leaves marks on yrou skin, and it takes 45 minutes to an hour for them to go away.

If yoru going to sign up with onemodelplace.com, then pay for the gold membership or higher. Trust me, it's worth it for that site. I get a lot of work from there, and I haven't encountered any bad photogs. ( but they are out there! I just screen them well)

Make sure you have everythign clear when you set up a shoot. Dont be afriad to ask quesitons.
    You need to know
    - wher ethe shoot will be, indoors or outdoors. A studio, private home, hotel room?
What is provided, what to bring?
    What content? NUde, fashion, bikini?
If TFP how many prints will you get? Will you get a cd of the full shoot, or just a few images? WHEn can you expect the CD?

If paid, usually you will not get any images. You got paid, thats the compensation. Sometimes they will give you a few shots, but it isnt expected.

    Hmm...what else?

After you have a portfolio build up, get comp cards made. then go to each and every agency in your area, and drop off your comp cards. Email your pictures to other agencies to far away to drive. I searched for agencies on the internet, and submitted photos to everyone that was ok in the better business bureau. ( yes, check them out first!)

2 incredible pictures are worth more than 20 so so pictures, so choose what you display in your port carefully.

You don't need to pay an agency. You don't need to pay for modeling school. You dont need to pay for a photographer. The only exception to this is if the photog. is absolutly fucking amazing, and the only way you can shoot with him is to pay him. If he's worth it, then do it!

My onemodelpalce port is in my sig if u wanna check it out.
    my MM port is
I havent updated my shit in a long time, so it isnt great right now, Ive been lazy.
Heres a few secrets for onemodel place:
OMP update yoru profile each and every day. It lists you as updated last 24 hours, and put you at the top of searches. That means when peopel search in your area, you'll be near the tp. The better membership you pay for, the higher up on searches you are. As you can see, I havent done this lately. Im lazy.
When you first sign up for OMP, a new model notice goes out to all photogs and models in your area. Thsi means the first few weeks, you will get FLOODED with responces. I got 50-100 a day! Most are crap, some are good leads. weed through them, read every responce, respond to thoes who sound good asking for more info, and setting up shoots.

If it sounds to good to be true, than it probably is. If you get a mesage offering 2000 dollar pay, its probably either bs, or porn. Don't get stars in yrou eyes! be smart.

Modeling is NOT as easy as it looks. Its hard work, from setting up shoots, marketing yourself is very time consuming. If you aret actively putting yourelf out there, you will not get any work. Thi sgoes from doing it yourself on websites, and going to agencies. Keep up with it.

Don't expect to get paid right away, your new, you dont have a portfolio, and no experience. When you feel ready to get paid, then just start responding to photographer with "here are my rates". Dont set them to high at first! You can always raise them. When I started, my rates were $75 an hour. Now they are $125 an hour, but about to increase to $150 an hour, just cause every phtogo. lately has said Im very reasonable. That measn to me, I can command a higher price, without screwing myself out of work.

Oh yeah..if you want paid, look for fetish work. Its very easy, and pays well. All fetsih work i do is NON NUDE. ( I only do artistic nudity) Foot fetish shit pays good, and is stupid easy. Sit there and let them take pics of yoru feet. SO stupid, but it pays well. You can also build up regular photographers to work with this way, for a fairly consistant pay. I have done foot fetish, stocking fetish, tickling fetishes, foot worship, light bondage, and wet fetishes( fully clothed in swimming pools) They are all soo silly and retarded, but liek I said, it pays well. Again, screen everyone well!

Wow...that's all I can think of for now.
Sorry for being so long winded, but hope it helps.

Just as a side note MM ( model mayhem ) kicked my profile/portfolio off because I do "adult" work.

One model place is a lot more tolerant, just be careful - I've gotten some very fishy offers. Like the so called photographer wont let you ( the model ) bring some one with you for your own safety.

Listen to Kaylinn. A great example of someone who's built up her portfolio from some casual photos to really great work.

    Just the simplest things.....

Yeah. if you think you might've blinked, say so. The photographer will want to click again.

You also have to learn how to be able to snap into a pose and hold it.
The really experienced ones, they assume the pose, or photographer directs the pose, and immediately, the tummy just gets sucked right in, the model stops moving, the camera clicks, and good things happen.

Theres a lot of flakey models. Dont be one. Photographers talk to each other, and yo dont want your name out there as a flake. if you have a shoot, show up, be on time. Work hard, and act professional.
So true. Just to have a model who answers contacts promptly, is organized with her time, and treats things in a normal business-like, straightforward way, is a treasure in itself.

If yoru shooting nudes or revealing clothes, then wear loose fittin gclothing to the shoot. No panties, no bra, no socks. Anythign tight leaves marks on yrou skin, and it takes 45 minutes to an hour for them to go away.
Again, great advice. You're going to be changing right away anyway, in all likelihood. Learn to change quickly. You don't want to be thrown an outfit to shoot in next and disappear for 10 minutes with the photographer tapping foot, waiting.

2 incredible pictures are worth more than 20 so so pictures, so choose what you display in your port carefully.
    Just requoted for emphasis.

You don't need to pay an agency.
Or sign with an agency, especially an exclusive signing.

Heres a few secrets for onemodel place:
OMP update yoru profile each and every day. It lists you as updated last 24 hours, and put you at the top of searches. That means when peopel search in your area, you'll be near the tp.
And if you go into your portfolio and just add a space, then back up again, and click "save changes," it'll show you as updated that day. If you just change your header photographer to another shot in your portfolio - you haven't added anything, just rearranged - it'll show that date as "Photos added." You can keep "updated" with very little effort.

    Great advice, Kaylinn.

Why, thank you. Although I HATE when people quote me, because then all my typos just glare at me. I never go back and edit, and my brain works way faster than my fingers.

You remember me from my very first terrible picture, in front my my garage, LOL.
I decided that since everyone alwyas told me I could be a model, I thought, hell, I might just try that and see what happens. I never had great aspirations to be a famous model, I dont even like it all that much, I like the money, and I'm to old now to be a famous model. Im 26, I woudl have had to start way, way youjnger to get anywhere big. Not that I even want to be famous, tho the money would be nice.

But yeah...I started out with some pretty bad pictures, standing outside in front of my garage. I put them up on OMP, found 1 good photog off the bat. OK, he wasn't that talented, but he was nice, and semi pro. At the time, I thought he was incredible, but Ive shot with much better since then.
Anyway...we did TFP. I got betetr pictures, so I took down the unprofessional ones and replaced them with my better ones. I found betetr photog's, and did more TFP, got better pics.
I got a decent port, then I went around to every agnecy in vegas and dropped off my comp cards. I never work exclusive with one agency. I work for all of them, although...mostly in vegas, they want to book me for convention work, which dont pay very well at all, so I dont work for the agencies much. I haven't gotten any real print work, yet. I could, if I tried harder for it, but I dont care to much.
When I saw I had a nice portfolio, when photographers contacted me for a shoot, instead of assuming TFP, I just emailed back with my rates. And they would pay me.

I can't access it right now, but later on today I will send you the form I use to send out to prospective photographers, to help weed out the bad ones. Just a simple questionare you can copy and paste into emails. I did it cause, when you first start a port, and get 50 emails a day, its much easier to just send this form out to everyone and if they respond, great, if not...oh well.

    Anyway. That's what I did.
    So good luck to you.

Thanks for your interest in working with me in the near
future. I have gotten a lot of responces, so please be patient with my replies! My schedule is getting booked quickly.
I am currently interested in paid shoots and limited TFP with exceptional photographers.
If you would like to shoot with me please reply with the following details. Please note that I do travel to first time shoots with an escort. My escort is unobtrusive and stays out of the way, he is just there to ensure my safety.
    Thank you!

    Name
    Location
    Phone
    Type of shoot
    3 References (please include OMP#s)
Pay (rate/hr) or TFP/CD ( I don't incude this part so much anymore, because I set my own rates, not ask what they are offering)
If TFP How many images will I recieve, will they be edited or raw, and when can I expect them?
When you would like to shoot?
How long would the shoot be?
What do I need to bring? What is provided?
    Indoor or Outdoor?
If indoor, is this a hotel, house, or studio?
If outdoor, what locations are you interested in?

This is what I sent to OMP replies when I first started and was gettign a zillion replies a day. Was just easier to send this and see who responded. The way I saw it, if they actually took the tiem to respond to me and answer my questions, then they were legit. Espicially if they gavw references. Which I do check!

I don't use this so much anymore, but it was very helpful.

If your going for Playboy, watch what you do nude. That goes for most mags. When I was in Maxim's hometown hotties, I had to take down every single nude pic on any website, and I was unable to accept any nude work.
Is there a specified time limit for that? Like, if you pose for Playboy is there any time after that where you'll be able to accept other nude work for another magazine, say, Maxim? Or do they expect you never to pose for any other magazine after you pose for them?

    I've always wondered about that.

It's in your contract with Playboy when you agree to shoot with them.
BUt. If you shoot for Playboy, Maxim will never take you. You cannot have been published Nude in any way in order to be in Maxim. I had not been published yet, so I just took down my nudes from all the websites until I was done with Maxim.
    Maxim is not nude.
For other nude mags, like Hustler or something..I dont know. It would be in your playboy contract.

A lot of the big mags wont shoot you if you have shot for thei competition. So go for your first choice until you get it or are uneqivicably shot down.
If you shoot for Hustler..Penthouse doesnt like it...if you shoot for Penthouse, Playboy doesnt like it...on and on...

So in this one thing..start at the top!!

Once you are not under contract with them anymore...I doubt they'd care. Playboy playmates have gone on to do porn when their contracts were up...

I really like it better than OMP and MM as far as layout. It is free like MM but much faster!
I have favorite photographers that I have been using for some time now. I am not sure where you are located but here are my favorites:

    Rich Cutrone-

    Mark Mozzier-

    Vincent Pierce-

If you are anywhere near Austin Texas, I know Kim Riley is really nice and will shoot you forever and give you tons of photos within days of your shoot.
