what your impressions of the girls are and what the customers think they are paying for are not the same thing and never have been. a plurality and possibly majority of girls like to think they are intelligent and witty and that men are paying mainly for their personality traits, or should, or would.

however, this is empirically not true.

and since you were born upper class and stated as much, you are in fact slumming if you choose to danced unclothed for money. that is slumming, because you have plenty of choices that pay as much or more and which even offer 'flexibility'. and yet you choose the socially unapproved choice. they call that 'slumming it' in most parts of the world.

i swear, i wish there was subthreading sometimes.

as for any dancers swearing they don't think they are superior to anyone else, the mere fact that they consider other girls tacky or trashy or slutty for doing what they would not puts the lie to their statements.

lastly, class divisions exist precisely because underclasses are required. courtesans would not exist if even a slight majority of men didn't want SOME girls (always some OTHER girls than oneself in the sex biz) to be 'lower' or 'dirtier' or 'unclassy'. without some being considered ugly, there is no beauty. that is how humanity works.

LMAO I'm so sorry that you disapprove of me dancing and taking my clothes off.

There is something seriously not right with you. I don't know whether you are a dancer, a troll, a woman or a man but I do know one thing, you are an idiot and you just proved that by your posts.

I never said that men came to my club to see anything BUT naked women. I prefer that I dont want to have conversations with them because on the most part I have no interest in anything that they have to say.

I do not let what society deems as socially approved or unapproved dictate my choices and I certainty will not justify my choices for dancing to you or anyone else.

Ahhh Inara. The character is indeed inspirational. When we have monthly Firefly marathons at my place, my pals can pretty much have a drinking game going just based on "do a shot when Paige says I WANT HER CLOTHES!".

I for one would LOVE to be in demand solely for my presence and for my talents as a dancer. Mmmmm....

On a way side note... I hope to cosplay as Inara at FX next time it rolls around... hopefully I'll get to chat with Book and Jayne again! They were so way cool.

    Dear Kettle,

Thank you kindly for your letter. I am, indeed, the same colour as you are - black.

    Thank you,

    Pot.

I want to know what this magical job she has discovered that pays the same or more than dancing and is just as flexible?? Hmmm. When I finish law school I will be working about 60-70 hours a week to make about the same money (in the first year out of school anyway) that I make dancing two nights per week.

I'd also like to see this magical world where being raised in an upper-class family guarantees you anything more than fuck all.

Far as I know, miabella isn't a stripper [anymore?]. She sits in chat drinking wine a lot and has insomnia. That's pretty much all I know.

And I know when people think of "curse" they think of "Hex" but I swear it wasn't me, Hatsheput. You have to admit you start pretty controversial threads. I mean, just read the titles!

I think her problems are far more serious than insomnia LOL.

Hatshepsut this may turn out to be the second longest thread in SW history.

i don't entirely mean to be so confrontational, but even in the fictional world of firefly, there was a strong implication that inara's brothel-owning Companion-school dropout friend was 'too good' to be running a brothel. inara pretty much indicated she felt her friend was 'wasting her talents'.

and yet nobody here is posting about how awesome it would be to work in a brothel on the edge of civilisation, with men openly not respecting you and trying to burn you out for daring to question them.

it's all 'sigh, i wish men would just buy into the courtesan myth more' and 'i come from an upperclass background, but selling my nudity for cash isn't slumming, how dare you suggest it!' and 'i didn't explicitly say i consider myself better than other dancers, so there!' and 'i am lucky enough to suit society's norms of beauty to an extent that men will pay me for NOT having sex or providing contact, and i'm not even going to question that, just dismiss any implication that men just might not find my MIND the most fascinating thing about me'.

most girls cannot be courtesan-types. most men don't even want courtesan-types. and yet, and yet, always i am hearing from girls with the choices and privilege to go other places and/or do other things that anything other than the courtesan myth is horrible and wrong and nobody HAS to do that, they could just be low contact like memememememe and make the same money!

no understanding that you make money because there is someone out there doing more for the money you get. you are the one thrown up on the pedestal, and you don't even see that this means others are not standing up there with you and this is why they cannot also get paid for justtalking.

    le sigh. le fucken sigh.

I think what it all boils down to is that people are looking for a way to take their job to the next level, be it business, retail or stripping. Being geisha like would be the entertainers next step up. It's a promotion, a recognition for ones talents in the industry. Unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot of room for that within the larger part of the world's society right now. It would be amazing to be recognized for one's ability to be drop dead sexy, a good converstionalist, a good host and so on and so on and to be paid accordingly for it. I just don't see that kind of position happening very often (unless you're a high end call girl or whatever label you use). It's not about keeping others down, which happens in every aspect of society, it's about wanting something more. But this is just my crazy opinion, I don't know if anyone agrees?

heheh oh dear... you didn't read the thread "christian dancers?" ... *sings* "memories....."

anyway.... i totally think of myself as the courtesan-type. Hell, where else is all this random knowledge gonna go... SW vent-posts? and i get to exhibit these traits, too, because dayshift often REQUIRES lengthy conversation/get-to-know-you type hustle. i love it. takes time, but usually pays off.

This is an an excellent retort, I think. If aspiring to move "beyond" typical strip fare to more of a courtesan-like position is being a class warrior, then so is aspiring to get out of the typing pool and into an executive position at some company.

Those who advance in their fields do so by a combination of (possible) privilege of birth and hard work/determination. Being brought up privileged vs. underprivileged is an advantage--no doubt about that. But these aren't *exactly* feudal times.

And I don't think anyone here is saying, "Man, I'm too good for this common stripper work. I am a high class lady. I deserve to sip champagne, wear La Perla--and leave it on--while I wax philosophical with powerful and important men. Let the plebes grind and spread 'em."

I agree. I've had many guys pay me for just my company...buy me dinner at work, give me foot massages, etc, etc...all the while having interesting and intellectual conversations all night long, and them treating me with the utmost respect. They tell me I am "different" from most strippers they have met, and how classy I am. I attract a lot of these guys ITC...and a lot of the times I enjoy their company as well. It's a business arrangement just like with any other profession...Plus I'm older, and not your stereo- typical " young, party- animal, coke- head stripper"....(so to speak)... I have concrete goals, am going to college seeking a Business Degree, and I'm a "Focused- Business Woman" when I'm at work...I don't care what the dilutinoids think.

I do see your point, and I do see myself as the Geisha/Courtesan- type.

I was thinking this too! I mean, at this rate, if you started a thread called "I Love Puppies", it would degenerate into a vicious debate between PETA members and Ted Nugent fans.

Joking aside, great thought in the OP! I'm a rabid, crazed Firefly/Serenity fan too. (Though I would honestly rather be Zoe than Inara, much as I love their exalted Companion. )

You should hear her in chat. Miabella is basically burnt out and sour about the entire industry. She thinks everyone is racist, she hates herself and everyone in the industry.

It seems just about every post from her is sour and negative.

Oh and her magical job? Its her boyfriend paying her to sit at home and spread her legs as needed.

    Back to topic...

A large base of my regulars when I was a VIP girl were guys who would sit with me and pay me to talk. I had one who used to pay me to sit and talk politics with him.

I wish more guys would realize that a majority of us are more then tits and ass. We are actually educated and have a brain. *sigh*
