Don't take a picture of yourself in the mirror.
Use the timer. Use a tripod. If you don't have a tripod, prop the camera up as solidly as you can with the proper area framed.
Keep reflective surfaces out of the flash area.
Use as neutral background as you can. Rumpled sheets can be fine. Your headboard with your reading material from last night is not.
Use the highest resolution pictures that your camera offers so you can work better with the results.
Have really long arms?
Take sexy artistic pictures of your feet?

Jay That was awsome. Im gonna give this a try tonight by using my timmer for the first time.
what about the angle? camera facing down on me has good results verses camer facing up to me. catching gravity.
I think it depends on the person? I like my face tilted up.
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

Yea its hard when youre vacationing by yourself. No one there to take pictures of you in cool places. I just used the timer button and tried to set it on something even. Or if you meet some nice people (depending on where youre going) you can have them take one for you.
you live like an ivy vine
you can only survive by clinging onto trees
that's your flaw
put down some roots so you can stand on your own

Practice as best you can in the mirror. Looking from hairline down can make your nose look oversized. Looking from chin up can give an unattractive view of nostrils. Practice in tilting your face, from just a little, to scope out the best angles. (Whatever Bella says about her best angles, I've never seen a bad angle of her in any shot.)
Don't put the camera real close to the face. That'll give more of a fish-eye view to the face, and you won't be as proportionate. Back the camera off a bit.
When you open your eyes real wide by raising your eyebrows, you crinkle the forehead. Try to keep the forehead relaxed. When you lower your head to look all sexy and moody to the camera, you can give yourself a double chin. Stretch the body and neck back out away from you some, if that makes sense.
Try movements-and-freezes for the timer. If it can flex, flex it. Be goofy, be dramatic. It's only digital. If you don't like the results, you can delete them.
Keep the camera as far away from you as possible. If you want a closeup, use the zoom to make it look close. If the camera itself is close to your face, it will make your nose look big. This also applies to shots where you are lying down, except here it would be your feet or your head (whichever is closest to the lens) that would be made to look bigger than normal.
Just before you are going to take the picture, yawn to relax your face muscles, lick your lips, and laugh uproariously. Then put on whatever expression you want.
Unless you want an unusual angle, for face shots have the lens level with the tip of the nose. For standing shots including the body, have the lens level with the heart. For shots lying down, have the camera level with your body.
Do not stand close to a wall when using the flash, or you will have a black shadow behind you. Be at least three feet away from the wall to avoid this.
for finding your best angles, just start taking pictures...if you have the option, set the camera up to take a shot every few seconds (mine will do 2 or 10 - i use 2)...press the button and then just...be
you'll get some truly awful pictures, but you'll also get some great ones...over time, you'll probably see some trends in the ones that you like (i've learned that i like the camera a little bit higher than my face so that i'm looking up at it most of the time, and i prefer my head tilted a little to the left, but it took literally thousands of pictures to figure that out)

Great tips above. I always hold the cam as far away as possible (you can crop later). I'll take a few, if they suck, I experiment. I play with the settings on the camera, move to better lighting or better background. Change my top, expression, or lip gloss. Take a bunch of pics, then compare them to find your best angles. Remember them. Once you get the hang of it, it's really easy. Some of my favorite photos of me, I've taken myself.
